Composite specimens, which are composed MDF cement of HAC-PVA system were prepared by adding carbon fiber, hydrated silica and SiC powder, and we studied effect of additives on the flexural strength of the composites. All of additives is effective in the improvement of flexural strength of the composite specimens. The size of average pore diameter in the specimens which have high flexural strength property was small. Specimen mixed with hydrated silica was effective in the particle compact property. Flexural strength of carbon fiber reinforced MDF cement composites were improved because of crack deflection of carbon fiber in cementitious matrix.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the Inside end-taping (Inside-ET) and Outside end-taping (Outside-ET) treatments on prevention of drying defects during radiofrequency/vacuum (RF/V) drying domestic yellow poplar log cross section with size of 20~75 mm in thickness and 120~470 mm in diameter. The treatments of Inside-ET and Outside-ET were quite effective for producing sound log cross sections with thinner than 33 mm and smaller than 270 mm in diameter. Even the 60 mm- and 75 mm-thick log cross sections, if the diameter was smaller than 30 cm, it might expect preventing formation of border checks by appropriate end-taping treatments. The positions of the observed border checks differed in diameter ranging at a relative radius about 0.50~0.63 diameter, and it was estimated that it was necessary to select the border position of end-taping treatment properly according to the diameter of log cross sections. It was observed that the radius of 0.3 diameter was the critical location for pretreatment for preventing formation of border checks in the log cross section with middle diameter. There were severe border checks and V-shaped cracks in the log cross section with large diameter. This was because of the severe variation of moisture content along radial direction of natural characteristic of domestic yellow poplar.
aA series of experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of plant growth regulator treatments on the growth and lateral root formation in soybean sprouts in order to establish the effective method of producing root-less or short-rooted soybean sprouts with larger diameter in the hypocotyl. Major results can be summarized as follows. 1. Soybean sprouts showed fairly uniform elongation rate from 3 to g days after imbibition with daily increase of 3.8cm. The speed of elongation of hypocotyl was reduced whereas that of root accelerated 7 days after imbibition. Lateral roots began to emerge fairly evenly from 5 to 9 days after imbibition with a daily increase of 4.4. 2. Auxins(IAA, IBA, NAA, 2,4-D) inhibited hypocotyl elongation and formation of lateral roots and increased hypocotyl diameter without influencing root length and hook diameter at higher concentrations. The dry weight of cotyledon was increased significantly as compared to that of hypocotyl and root. Among the tested auxins, 2, 4-D was the most effective. 3. BA and 4PU-30 significantly reduced elongation of hypocotyl and root and resulted in the biggest diameter of hypocotyl when treated at higher concentrations. The lowest effective concentration of BA to prevent the formation of larval gal roots was 12.5ppm. The formation of lateral roots could be completely prevented by BA and 4PU-30 treatment but kinetin, zeatin, zeatin riboside resulted in many lateral roots and increased thickness of soybean sprouts with little influence. Cotyledon deformation was found in soybean sprouts treated by 4PU-30. 4. 2, 4-D was the most effective for increasing the hypocotyl diameter while 4PU-30 was the most effective for reducing no. of lateral roots. 5. It can be concluded that among the plant growth regulators tested, BA was effective in reducing root length and increasing hypocotyl diameter. BA 12.5 ppm or 15 ppm may thus be the more practical for production of soybean sprouts. 6. ABA showed no significant effect of growth parameter, however ABA 25 ppm inhibited only no of lateral roots with little influence on the growth of seedling. 7. Ethephon inhibited the elongation of hypocotyl and root and increased hypocotyl diameter at higher concentrations. 8. The combined effect of cytokinins and ethephon was very similar to result of BA treatment alone. As the ethephon concentration increased, hypocotyl diameter and dry weight of cotyledon tended to increase.
In this paper, numerical pile segment analysis is conducted with an advanced soil elastoplastic model to investigate the diameter effects on skin friction behaviour of a drilled shaft in sand. Ultimate skin friction and 't-z' behavior from the pile segment analyses for drilled shafts show good agreement with those from design methods. Higher ultimate skin friction for the smaller diameter pile is related to the greater increase in the effective radial stress at the interface due to the localized dilation at and near the pile interface. Stiffer t-z curve for the smaller diameter pile is related to the early occurrence of three shear stages (early, dilation, constant volume shear stages). The diameter effects on ultimate skin friction of drilled shafts are more prominent for denser sand and lower confining pressure.
These studies were carried out to obtain useful information about the effective selection of vegetable perilla by estimating the genetic relationships between the heritabilities and the genetic correlations of quantitative traits among eight agronomic characters from 91 perilla varieties. The positive correlations were showed among characters such as between leaf weight and leaf size, leaf weight and leaf length, leaf weight and leaf width, leaf weight and plant height, leaf weight and stem diameter, leaf size and leaf length, leaf size and leaf width, leaf size and plant height, leaf size and stem diameter , leaf length and leaf width, leaf length and plant height, leaf length and stem diameter, leaf width and plant height, leaf width and stem diameter, plant height and stem diameter, plant height and the number of internodes per plant, and the number of internodes per plant and the number of leaves per plant. Heritabilities were high as from 0.7311 to 0.9112 among leaf weight, leaf size, leaf length, leaf width, plant height, stem diameter, and the number of internodes per plant.
This study was conducted to examine the effects of wet storage solution, transport period and temperature on vase life and quality of cut flowers in standard chrysanthemum 'Jinba'. Immediately after transport, the fresh weight and flower diameter of cut flowers did not show a difference according to wet storage solutions regardless of the transport period, but as the transport period increased, the fresh weight and flower diameter increased. The flower bud stage at harvest was maintained due to the small changes in flower diameter, and the freshness of leaves was better when transported at 5℃ than at 25℃. When transported at 25℃, the longer the transport period, the lower the quality of cut flowers as some petals opened up and showed early flowering after transport. In preservative solutions, quality of cut flowers transported at 25℃ was lower than that at 5℃ due to fresh weight and diameter according to the longer transport period. The vase life of cut flowers was 1.0 day, 0.8 day, and 7.3 days longer when transported for 3, 5, and 7 days respectively at 5℃ than at 25℃. The quality of cut flowers was better due to increase in fresh weight and flower diameter, as well as vase life in wet storage solutions of ClO2 and Chrysal OVB than in tap water, regardless of transport period and temperature. There was no difference in fresh weight and vase life between ClO2 and Chrysal OVB, but flower diameter was greater in ClO2 than in Chrysal OVB. Therefore, for long-term transport of cut standard chrysanthemum 'Jinba', wet storage transport in ClO2 at 5℃ was found effective in maintaining the quality and vase life of cut flowers.
A one-dimensional heat transfer model for the vertical borehole system is derived in this study to predict the thermal behavior of the system and surrounding soil. In this model the U-tube is replaced with one effective tube of effective diameter which is surrounded by concentric grout region. All thermal resistances of borehole are counted in the grout region with effective thermal conductivity of grout. Effective thermal conductivity of grout and sand are calculated through parameter estimation. The validity of this model is accomplished through comparison of the predicted temperature profiles of the model with experimental data.

The objectives of this study are to investigate effective stiffness of circular reinforced bridge columns and to provide reasonable effective stiffness equations for seismic design to the current Korean Bridge Design Standard. The material nonlinear analysis was conducted for 5184 columns of which variables were the concrete compressive stress, the steel yielding stress, the longitudinal steel location parameter, the longitudinal steel ratio, the axial load level, and the diameter of section. The current Korean Bridge Design Standard generally used the gross section stiffness because of unclear provision, it may be non-conservative because of being evaluated greater design seismic force and less design displacement than those of the abroad provision. Therefore, the proposed effective stiffness equations include three variables such as : the longitudinal steel location parameter, the longitudinal steel ratio, and the axial load ratio. Two equations of effective stiffness are proposed which may be used for earthquake force estimation and for earthquake displacement estimation, respectively.

The objectives of this study are to investigate effective stiffness of Rectangular reinforced concrete bridge columns. It is reasonable to use yielding effective stiffness of columns in seismic bridge design, especially in case that plastic hinges form at the bridge columns. In this study, the material nonlinear analysis was conducted for 3, 240 column sections of which variables were the concrete compressive stress, the steel yielding stress, the longitudinal steel location parameter, the longitudinal steel ratio, the axial load level, and the diameter of section. Based on the analytical results, an effective stiffness including two variables(longitudinal steel ratio and axial load ratio) was proposed by regression analyses, and it is compared with test results and the proposed equation for yielding effective stiffness of circular bridge columns.

This paper presents results from field studies carried out to monitor off-target droplet movement of endosulfan insecticide applied to the Korea chestnut tree area. As a results, mean airborne drift values were recorded 25m as average from downwind of a single flight line(sample line) in mountain terrain and mean effective swath width was recorded 19.5m as average in a plain. In terms of characteristics of geography of Korea aerial application is mainly carried out in mountain terrain. The equipment, weather conditions, and appropriate aerial spray technic are required for effective aerial application. In particular, the pilot can get effective results when he only sprays with consideration of environment factors since there is much turbulence in mountain terrain. Eventually, the most effective factor of droplets drift is to estimate the local weather conditions exactly.
