  • In this study, a runoff hydrograph and runoff volume were calculated by using the kinetic wave theory for small urban watersheds based on the concept of low impact development(LID), and the effective imperviousness was estimated based on these calculations. The degree of sensitivity of the effective imperviousness of small watersheds to the impervious to pervious area ratio, infiltration capability, watershed slope, roughness coefficient and surface storage depth was then analyzed. From this analysis, the following conclusions were obtained: The effective imperviousness and paved area reduction factor decreased as the infiltration capability of pervious area increased. As the slope of watersheds becomes sharper, the effective imperviousness and the paved area reduction factor display an increasing trend. As the roughness coefficient of impervious areas increases, the effective imperviousness and the paved area reduction factor tend to increase. As the storage depth increases, the effective imperviousness and the paved area reduction factor show an upward trend, but the increase is minimal. Under the conditions of this study, it was found that the effective imperviousness is most sensitive to watershed slope, followed by infiltration capability and roughness coefficient, which affect the sensitivity of the effective imperviousness at a similar level, and the storage depth was found to have little influence on the effective imperviousness.

  • The data of the agricultural water quality survey network was analyzed between from 1990 to 2010 in order to propose effective plans for water quality management by analyzing the characteristics of agricultural lakes and the change of water quality. The result of the analysis shows that there is a correlation between water quality and items that can be a function of water depth such as dam height, dam length, dam height/dam length ratio and active storage/surface area of lake ratio. This means that, Korean agricultural lakes, there is a correlation between water quality and water depth. Water quality of the lakes that have lower than 5m of active storage/surface area of lake ratio (effective water depth) especially tends to get worse rapidly. The Chl-a and COD concentration of Korean agricultural lakes have a tendency to increase between June and September. Therefore, we recommend first taking a water quality improvement project for the lakes preformed watershed management project, and taking a preventive short-term water quality improvement project for the unperformed lakes before June among lakes that have lower than 5m of effective water depth.

  • This paper reveals the effect of the effective case depth(ECD) on the fatigue behavior of a high-frequency induction hardened SM45C in rotated bending fatigue test. In addition, the effects of fracture modes(surface origin type, inner origin type) on it are discussed. The fatigue limit of the induction hardened steel is remarkably increased compared with that of base metal. In addition, the fatigue limit is linearly increased as the effective casedepth grows deep in the region of this experiment (ECD/R;0.23-0.49). The S-N curve and fracture mode in the induction case hardened steel are classified into two kinds, as a result : N$_{f}$<10$^{5}$ ;surface origin type fracture(at high stress), N$_{f}$>10$^{5}$ ; in ner origin type fracture(at low stress). In case of inner origin type fracture; as the effective case depth(ECD) gets deep, the fatigue limit is increased by the reason that the fracture origin moves toward center; in reverse, is decreased by reason that the compressive residual stress gets low. As a result, the increasing effect of the former is much bigger than the decreasing effect of the latter, and the fatigue limit is increased as the ECD gets deep.eep.

  • Plant root penetration through soil profile is restricted by compacted layer such as plow pan under conventional tillage. For detecting the compact layer, we made a graduated T-shape probe and measured compared between the depths with rapid change in feeling hardness of hand penetration using T-shape probe and with a rapid increase of penetrometer cone index. On upland crops, including red pepper, corn, soybean and cucumber, plow pan depth ranged from 10 cm to 25 cm depth. The effective rooting depth (ER) had significant correlation with the plow pan depth (PP) except soils with the shallow ground water and/or poorly drained soil. The regression equation was ER = 0.9*PP ($R^2=0.54^{**}$, N = 14) with the applicative PP range of 10-25 cm.

  • The Compaction effect is important for evaluating the subgrade construction. However, there is little research exploring the compaction quality of deep soil using hydraulic compaction. According to reinforcement effect analysis, dimensional analysis is adopted in this work to analyze subgrade compactness within the effective reinforcement depth, and a prediction model is obtained. A hydraulic compactor is then employed to carry out an in-situ reinforcement test on gravel soil subgrade, and the subgrade parameters before and after reinforcement are analyzed. Results show that a reinforcement difference exists inside the subgrade, and the effective reinforcement depth is defined as increasing compactness to 90% in the depth direction. Layered compactness within the effective reinforcement depth is expressed by parameters including the drop distance of the rammer, peak acceleration, tamping times, subgrade settlement, and properties of rammer and filler. Finally, a field test is conducted to verify the results.

  • The result of this research explains an interactive behavior of buried steel pipe located below hume pipe using concept of effective depth and effective length against their intersection angle and burial distance. The cover depth of upper rigid (hume) pipe is 1.0m and depth range of flexible (steel) pipe is 0.5m to 5m from beneath bottom of hume pipe. And one more variable is their intersection angle in this study, it was considered from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. From the results of this study, the effective depth is proportionally increasing with its intersection angle and decreasing with distance increment between two pipes. Finally, the relationship between effective length and summation of occurred bending stress is defined.

  • Since multi-view video exists a number of camera color image and depth image, it has a huge of data. Thus, a new compression technique is indispensable for reducing this data. Recently, the effective compression encoding technique for multi-view video that used in layered depth image concepts is a remarkable. This method uses several view point of depth information and warping function, synthesizes multi-view color and depth image, becomes one data structure. In this paper we use actual distance for solving overlap in layered depth image that reduce required data for reconstructing in color-based transform. In experimental results, we confirmed high compression performance and good quality of reconstructed image.

  • Purpose : Inadequate chest compression during cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) may result in the insufficient blood flow to preserve critical organ function. The study evaluated changes of quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation over time in 30:2 CPR by laypersons and analyzed rescuer factors affecting the quality of chest compressions over time. Methods : This study was designed to know quality of CPR changes during 5 minutes. 47 students completed CPR training courses. They were performed 30:2 CPR using a manikin with Skill-Reporter for 5 minutes continuously to get data of depth, rate of chest compression, volume and correct rate of ventilation. Results : Time dependent analysis showed significant ineffective compression depth in females and under weight rescuers. In case of female, we found effective compression depth has maintained up to 2 minutes, but it decreased significantly after 2 minutes. However, underweight rescuers maintained effective compression depth up to a minute but it decreased after 1 minute. Conclusion : Although compression rate maintained over time, chest compression quality declined significantly. It suggested switching compression at an interval of 2 minutes is reasonable for 30:2 CPR by layperson but underweight rescuers may provide effective chest compression by switching shift every one minute.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain an effective enclosing method for noise reduction of press machine operating in a manufacturing company located in Taegu region. Noise level of the machine is about 95~120 ㏈ which is higher than legal standards by industrial safety and health law. In this study, two experiments were conducted to achieve the above purpose. In the first experiment in which the effects of three independent variables-type and depth of sound-absorbing materials, and depth of air space-on noise level was investigated, it was found that depth of sound-absorbing materials and air space was significant at $\alpha$ = -0.01. In the second experiment studying relationship between depth of sound-absorbing materials and air space and noise level, it was shown that noise level lowered as depth of sound-absorbing materials and air space became thick. Based on these results, two alternatives of enclosing method adequate for the selected company's noise characteristics were suggested.

  • A study was conducted to find distribution patterns of minisprinkler without a bridge for the desing of microirrigation systems. The experiments were executed in a plastic house to minimize the effect of the wind. Data were collected at four different operation pressures and at 3 different riser heights. Sprayed water were collected by aluminium cans with 65mm diameter and 100mm height placed at 0.3m grid spacing . A schematic distribution pattern with distance from a minisprinkler was suggested for the layout design of the minisprinkler. Distribution pattern of the minisprinkler was found irregular in space. Distributin performance characteristics of the minisprinkler such as effective radius. , effective area, mean application depth, absolute maximum application depth, effective maximum application depth and coefficient of variation were determined. It was indicated that there is a trend of decrease in variation coefficient adn better water distribution by the increase in operation pressures and riser heights.
