Value Chain Analysis: A Brief Review

  • Value chain analysis has been applied in various fields, from the time the concept of “value chain” was introduced by Porter in 1985. Several frameworks have emerged and have been used to study individual firms, entire industries, industry clusters, as well as global production networks. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief review of these frameworks, identify factors that influence the performance of value chains, and suggest areas for future research. Since there is a wide range of value chain literature, this paper focuses on a selective set of earlier works within the value chain model as conceptualized by Porter. The study takes note of the many dimensions and applications of value chain analysis, and shows that value chain analysis is an effective way to examine the interaction among different players in a given industry. The study further points out the shortcomings of the traditional or Porter view of value chain analysis.

천연 항산화제와 포장재질이 Waffle의 산화 안정성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Natural Antioxidant and Packaging Material on the Oxidative Stability of Waffle)

  • 본 연구에서는 waffel의 제조에 있어 산패를 억제시키는 천연 항산화제를 첨가하여 항산화 효과를 조사하고 포장재질에 따른 품질변화를 측정하였다. 천연 항산화제를 waffle에 혼합하여 첨가하였을 경우 $25^{\circ}C$와 35$^{\circ}C$의 조건 모두 tocopherol에 rosemary 200 ppm을 혼합한 것이 저장기간에 유지의 산패를 효과적으로 억제하였다. 특히 선택되어진 tocopherol과 rosemary의 혼합 항산화제를 첨가하여 포장재별 가스치환율과 과산화물가를 측정한 결과 OPP 재질보다는 PET 포장재질이 우수하였다. 결론적으로 waffle의 저장기간을 늘이기 위해서는 천연항산화제인 tocopherol과 rosemary를 혼합하여 사용하고 PET 포장으로 제품화하였을 때 가장 효과적이라 할 수 있겠다.

The Effect of Tax Planning on Firm Value: A Case Study in Vietnam

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of tax planning on firm value of the non-financial firms listed in Vietnam, moderated by the state ownership. In this paper, effective tax rate is used to measure the tax planning; the state ownership is measured by the percentage of state equity holdings, and the firm value is measured by Tobin's Q. The data research is collected from audited financial statements and other statistical documents of 513 firms in the period of 2015-2019, provided by The FiinGroup (Vietnam). According to that, this paper uses quantitative research methods for the panel data. Regression analysis with GLS shows that the tax planning has a negative effect on firm value. In more detail, the association is not a variable in its direction when state ownership takes the role of a moderator. That means, in the perspective of principal-principal conflict, government should improve institutional environment to prevent firms form breaking the rules, especially accounting standards and principles. Assets allocation in tangible assets or making use of large size advantage should be taken into account. In the long run, firms should concentrate on the deployment of resources and the experience of knowledgeable practitioners to produce effective results.

스토리텔링 마케팅이 소비자의 가치 인식 및 가격 지불의사에 미치는 영향 분석 - 스마트팜 재배 과채류를 사례로 - (An Analysis of the Effect of Storytelling Marketing on Consumers' Value Perception and Willingness to Pay - The Case of Fruits and Vegetables Grown in Smart Farms -)

  • Smart farm farmers invest a lot of facility costs, time and effort. Product differentiation using storytelling marketing is important for the profitability of smart farms, since it is not easy to differentiate products between fruits and vegetables grown in smart farms and conventional facilities. This study empirically analyzes the effect of storytelling marketing on consumers' value perception and willingness to pay for fruit and vegetables grown in smart farms. For this purpose, the survey is conducted on 1,050 consumers and the main results are as follows. First, as a result of evaluating consumers' value perception, consumers perceive the value of comparative products (product 2 and 3) to be higher than the base product (product 1). Product 2 and 3 provide richer stories than product 1. Second, the willingness to pay for product 3, which provides the richest story, was the highest, followed by product 2, and then product 1. This means storytelling marketing could be an effective strategy that increases the value of fruits and vegetables grown in smart farms. Third, more than half of the respondents are willing to use QR codes when purchasing fresh agricultural products. Farmers could use QR codes to provide rich stories for effective storytelling marketing.

Effects of Chemical Foliar Herbicide on Weed Control in Alfalfa Field

  • This study aims to contribute to resolving the critical issue of weed management in newly established alfalfa fields, study has been conducted on effective herbicide use. The study evaluated the impact of various domestically available foliar herbicides on alfalfa phytotoxicity, weed control, yield, and nutritive value. The experiment was designed in a randomized complete block design with four treatments. Alfalfa 'SW 5615' seeded in the spring of 2024 on a 1 ha field (March 18), with herbicide treatments including fluazifop-P-butyl (FPB), bentazone (BEN), and a mixture of these herbicides (MIX). Herbicide efficacy, alfalfa yield, and nutritive value were assessed 30 days post-application. Results indicated that the MIX treatment achieved superior weed control comparable to hand weeding (HW), although it exhibited higher phytotoxicity, requiring extended recovery periods. While MIX led to lower overall yield, it enhanced alfalfa purity, resulting in higher crude protein (CP) content and relative feed value (RFV) compared to other treatments. The study concludes that despite the potential for increased phytotoxicity, mixed herbicide treatments could offer a strategic advantage in enhancing the quality of alfalfa feed through effective weed management, thereby improving CP and RFV, critical factors for the nutritional value of alfalfa. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing weed management practices in alfalfa cultivation, suggesting that mixed herbicide application, although associated with increased phytotoxicity on the plants, could improve the overall feed quality by reducing weed competition.

독도의 비시장적 가치 평가 (Assessment of Non-market Value of Dokdo)

  • The Korean government has acknowledged the importance of Dokdo Island and has consequently taken various measures for the effective management of it. There has, however, been little quantitative information about the value of Dokdo Island and this study, therefore, attempts to assess the Islands non-market value. To this end, this study estimated the non-market value by MAUT/CVM. The non-market value estimated by MAUT/CVM includes historic value, military value, ecological value, and geological value. According to the results, the values calculated by the price in market is about 10.37 trillion won and the values estimated by MAUT/CVM is about 1.72 trillion won annually.

돈분과 배추사일리지를 이용한 2조 혐기소화의 효과적인 처리 (Effective Treatment of Swine Manure with Chinese Cabbage Silage through Two Serial Anaerobic Digestion)

  • The performance of two serial completely stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) for treatment of swine manure (SM) with Chinese cabbage silage (CCS) was studied. The two CSTRs of 41 liters each were connected in series and first reactor was fed swine manure with Chinese cabbage silage in 3:1 proportion by VS basis. The FOS/TAC, methane content (%) and pH were utilized as the parameters for the digester stability control. The FOS/TAC value was found to be effective indicator for instant digester condition. The stability of reactors can be obtained with the FOS/TAC value up to 1.0 with accumulation of FOS value below 10,000 mg/L. Material exchange method was effective in transferring the excess volatile fatty acids (VFA) from the first reactor to the second one and maintaining stability in both the reactors. The biogas yield and the methane yield was 0.55-0.61 and 0.41-0.42 L/g VS fed, respectively, at organic loading rate (OLR) of 2.2-2.6 g VS/L with total HRT of 32 days.

Crack 발생 예측을 통한 Lead Screw 전조공정설계 (Prediction of Crack Initiation and Its Application to the Design of Lead Screw Thread Rolling Process)

  • In this paper, the process parameters of thread rolling were designed based on the numerical analysis results. Firstly, the effective analysis conditions that guarantee the reliability of the analysis results were found. To find the effective analysis conditions, the analyses were carried out for various numbers of teeth. And then, the effects of the process parameters such as tool shape and temperature on the thread rolling performance were investigated. The formability in thread rolling process was evaluated in terms of Cockcroft-Latham damage value. In order to evaluate formability, Cockcroft-Latham damage value was normalized by the critical damage value which was obtained from the analysis of uniaxial tensile test. The analyses were carried out using DEFORM-3D. The results showed that the flank angle and crest round had an effect on the thread rolling load. It was also shown that temperature had significant effects on the effective strain distribution, rolling load, and damage. With the reduced formability of stainless steel at higher temperature, it was shown that the normalized damage values increased as the process temperature.

고강도 알미늄 합금재에 있어서 크랙열림점 평가에 관한 연구(I) (A Study on Evaluation of Crack Opening Point in High Strength Aluminum Alloy(I))

  • This paper aims to synthesize the research on fatigue fracture mechanisms of high strength aluminum alloys which are widely used in motorcars or airplanes to prevent accidents. To measure the data of crack opening ratio, the same materials and method are used for evaluating the fatigue crack propagation rate as an effective stress intensity factor. But, many researchers have brought different results. An exact crack opening ratio was, therefore, proposed for getting a more accurate fatigue crack propagation rate. The main conclusions obtained are as follows. (1) As a result of the fatigue test, the value of the crack opening ratio is the same regardless of the stress ratio. (2) The value of crack opening ratio is different according to the measuring point. After measuring the crack propagation rate by using an effective stress intensity factor, the crack opening ratio value measured at the crack mouth by a clip gage, or measured rear of the specimen by a strain gage is more accurate than that by any other measuring test.

An Adaptive Occluded Region Detection and Interpolation for Robust Frame Rate Up-Conversion

  • FRUC (Frame Rate Up-Conversion) technique needs an effective frame interpolation algorithm using motion information between adjacent neighboring frames. In order to have good visual qualities in the interpolated frames, it is necessary to develop an effective detection and interpolation algorithms for occluded regions. For this aim, this paper proposes an effective occluded region detection algorithm through the adaptive forward and backward motion searches and also by introducing the minimum value of normalized cross-correlation coefficient (NCCC). That is, the proposed scheme looks for the location with the minimum sum of absolute differences (SAD) and this value is compared to that of the location with the maximum value of NCCC based on the statistics of those relations. And, these results are compared with the size of motion vector and then the proposed algorithm decides whether the given block is the occluded region or not. Furthermore, once the occluded regions are classified, then this paper proposes an adaptive interpolation algorithm for occluded regions, which still exist in the merged frame, by using the neighboring pixel information and the available data in the occluded block. Computer simulations show that the proposed algorithm can effectively classify the occluded region, compared to the conventional SAD-based method and the performance of the proposed interpolation algorithm has better PSNR than the conventional algorithms.
