  • Cylindrical stainless-steel/sodium heat pipe for a high-temperature solar thermal application was manufactured and tested for transient and steady-state operations. Two layers of stainless-steel screen mesh wick was inserted as a capillary structure. The outer diameter of the heat pipe was 12.7 mm and the total length was 250 mm. The effective heat transport length, the thermal load, and the operating temperature were varied as thermal transport conditions of the heat pipe. The thermal load was supplied by an electric furnace up to 1kW and the cooling was performed by forced convection of air The effective thermal conductivity and the thermal resistance were investigated as a function of heat flux, heat transport length, and vapor temperature. Typical range of the total effective thermal conductivity was as low as 43,500 W/m K for heat flux of 176.4 kW/$m^2$ and of operating temperature of 1000 K.

파이프 서포트의 내력 산정 방안 (A Proposed method of the Strength Calculation of Pipe Support)

  • Even though there is a guideline for the required strength of pipe support in inspection, it does not mean the nominal strength which can be used for the form work design. And, Concrete Specification defines that the pipe support should be designed according to the steel design guidelines but the design details are not provided, such as buckling length and the sectional modulus, etc. For the better prediction of strength of pipe support, the slenderness ratio of support which reflects the boundary condition should be considered. In this paper, the elastic buckling formula based on the slenderness is derived. The formula contains the strength reduction factor that consider the strength deduction caused by initial lateral deformation and is 0.65 consistently regardless of boundary conditions. And the coefficient of effective buckling length is calculated from the experiment.

지하 매설 교차 관망 내 강.연성관의 상호작용에 관한 연구 (Study for Rigid and Flexible Pipe Interaction at the Crossing Point of Underground Pipeline Network)

  • 본 연구는 지중에서 배관이 교차할 때 상부 강성관이 하부 연성관에 영향을 미치는 유효 깊이와 유효 길이에 대한 개념을 이용하여 두 매설 배관의 교차 정도와 배관 사이의 거리에 따른 하부 매설 배관의 영향범위를 파악 하고자한다. 이를 위하여 상부 배관과 하부 배관을 각각 원심력 철근콘크리트관과 가스수송용 강관으로 구현하였다. 이때 1.0m에 매설된 상부 배관으로부터 하부 배관은 각각 0.5m에서 5m의 매설심도를 가지며 두 배관의 교차각을 0, 30, 60, $90^{\circ}$로 변화하여 연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과 유효깊이는 두 매설 배관의 교차각이 증가함에 따라 증가하며, 두 매설관 사이의 거리가 증가함에 따라 감소하다 일정 값으로 수렴하게 된다. 또한 두 교차 배관의 교차 각 증가에 따른 유효길이와 휨응력 합의 관계를 정리하였다.

  • Geothermal energy can be used with a geothermal heat pump or an earth-to-air heat exchange system (EAHES), which is referred to as a "cooling tube" in Korea. In this study, we suggest EAHES burial guidelines in terms of the parameters of buried pipe length and air velocity regarding the exit air temperature of EAHES. The exit air temperature for EAHES in three regions (Changwon, Busan and Seoul) was calculated with variation in buried pipe length and air velocity at ${\Phi}100mm$ and ${\Phi}200mm$. In conclusion, variation in the buried pipe length is more effective than that of air velocity to achieve the required exit air temperature.

  • Sodium heat pipe for high-temperature solar thermal application was manufactured and tested for transient and steady-state operations. Total length of the heat pipe was 650 mm and the outer diameter was 12.7 mm. Thermal performance was compared experimentally for two different cooling methods of the forced and the natural convection cooling in the heat pipe condenser. During the experiment, the maximum temperature was about 1300K, and different cooling methods were applied to the condenser region to charge the operating temperature. The effective thermal conductivity and the thermal resistance were investigated as a function of heat flux, heat transport length, and operating temperature.

루프형 세관 히트 파이프의 열전달특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of Loop Type Capillary Heat Pipe)

  • In this paper, heat transfer characteristics of a loop type capillary heat pipe were experimentally investigated for the effect of several fill charge ratios of working fluid and heat loads. This type of heat pipe consists of a heating section, a cooling section and an adiabatic section. The heat pipe used has a 0.002m internal diameter, a 0.34m length in one turn and consists of 19 turns. Heating and cooling sections each have a length of 70mm. Experiments were performed to measure the temperature distributions and the pressure variation of the heat pipe. Heat transfer performance, effective thermal conductivity, boiling heat transfer and condensation heat transfer coefficients were calculated for various operating conditions of heat pipe and it was found that heat transfer characteristics of this type heat pipe were very excellent. As shown by this experimental study, this type of heat pipe operates by oscillatory flow caused by pressure and temperature oscillations.

As thermal transport conditions, the effective transport length, the heat flux, the tilt angle and the operating temperature were varied. The heat was supplied by an electric furnace up to 1 kW and the cooling was performed by forced convection of air. The effective thermal conductivity and the thermal resistance were investigated as a function of heat flux, heat transport length, and vapor temperature. Typical range of the total thermal resistance was as low as $0.036^{\circ}C/W$ at $175.8\;kW/m^2$ of heat flux and $700^{\circ}C$ of operating temperature.

수도용 대형 강관 용접부의 응력분포에 미치는 각장(leg of fillet)의 영향 (Effect of leg of fillet on stress distribution in weldments of large steel water pipes)

  • Large steel water pipes are joined prevalently by bell and method and welded at inside and outside of lapped parts. According to the Korean Standard(KS) for fabrication of water pipes, the weldments are designed to have the length of leg which is same as or larger than the thickness of the pipe. It is recently pointed out that the standard size of weldments is too large, which results in an excessive consumption of material and labor. In this study, several cases of weldments having different sizes were investigated to reduce the length of leg to the effective size. For each case, the analysis of stresses was carried out to evaluate the safety of the welded pipes by using a package program, ANSYS, under the consideration of the loading condition of water pipes which includes the soil pressure on the pipe, the load over the road, and temperature change of the pipe. The results of this study revealed that the weldment which has the length of leg of the size over 0.7*thickness of the pipe could provide a stress level below the yield strength. Especially when the length of leg is 85% of the wall thickness, the maximum equivalent stress is only slightly higher than that of the leg of fillet of the size of 1.0*pipe thickness.

  • In this paper, the heat transfer characteristics of a self-oscillating heat pipe are experimentally investigated for the effect of various working fluid fill charge ratios and heat loads. The characteristics of temperature oscillations of the working fluid are also analysed based on chaotic dynamics. The heat pipe is composed of a heating section, a cooling section and an adiabatic section, and has a 0.002m internal diameter, a 0.34m length in each turn and consists of 19 turns. The heating and the cooling portion of each turn has a length of 70mm. A series of experiments was carried out to measure the temperature distributions and the pressure variations of the heat pipe. Furthermore, heat transfer performance, effective thermal conductivity, boiling heat transfer and condensation heat transfer coefficients are calculated for various operating conditions. Experimental results show the efficacy of this type of heat pipe.

  • Commercial buildings and institutions are generally cooling-dominated and therefore reject more heat to a borehole ground heat exchanger (BHE) than they extract over the annual cycle. Shallow ponds can provide a cost-effective means to balance the thermal loads to the ground and to reduce the length of BHE. This paper presents the analysis results of the impact of design parameters on the length of SWHE pipe and its application effect on geothermal heat pump (GHP) system using BHE. In order to analysis, we applied ${\varepsilon}-NTU$ method on designing the length of SWHE pipe. Analysis results show that the required pipe length of SWHE was decreased with the increase of approach temperature difference and with the decrease of pipe wall thickness. In addition, when the SWHE was applied to the GHP system, the temperature of BHE was more stable than that of standalone BHE system.
