The heat transfer and friction factor characteristics of turbulent flows in three stationary channels have been investigated experimentally to check out the effect of divergence ratio. These are a constant cross-sectional channel and two diverging channels with ratio of divergence(Dho/Dhi) of 1.16 and 1.49. The measurement was conducted within the range of Reynolds numbers from 15,000 to 89,000 and the dimension of uniform cross-sectional test section is $100mm{\times}100mm$ at the cross section and 1,000 mm in length. The measurements of heat transfer coefficients and friction factors in the uniform channels were conducted as a reference. Because of the streamwise flow deceleration, the heat transfer and friction factor characteristics in the diverging channel were quite different from those of the constant cross-sectional channel. The effective friction factors and convective heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing the ratio of divergence of the channel.

In unfrictionless markets, one measure of asset pricing is its height of friction. This study develops a three-factor model by loosening the assumptions about stocks without friction, without risk, and perfectly liquid. Friction is used as an indicator of transaction costs to be included in the model as a variable that will reduce individual profits. This approach is used to estimate return, beta and other variable for firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). To test the efficacy of friction-adjusted three-factor model, we use intraday data from July 2016 to October 2018. The sample includes all listed firms; intraday data chosen purposively from regular market are sorted by capitalization, which represents each tick size from the biggest to smallest. We run 3,065,835 intraday data of asking price, bid price, and trading price to get proportional quoted half-spread and proportional effective half-spread. We find evidence of adjusted friction on the three-factor model. High/low trading friction will cause a significant/insignificant return difference before and after adjustment. The difference in average beta that reflects market risk is able to explain the existence of trading friction, while the difference between SMB and HML in all observation periods cannot explain returns and the existence of trading friction.
Heat transfer on packed bed is considered to be important for the effective designs of chemical reaction equipment, air conditioning system, and storage type heat exchanger, etc. Currently studies are being carried out quite actively in this field in order to increase the heat transfer efficiency. The effect of heat transfer is closely relater to materials, shapes, porosities and packing states of packed bed as well as mutual dimensional relations between particles and the container. Investigation shows that heat transfer results appear to be influenced by such parameters as fluid velocity through packed bed, mass flow, and thermal properties. It is noted that viscosity is also considered to be an important factor in this problem. In this study, effective thermal conductivities on packed bed, effects of thermal conductivity (Ke) and friction factor (Fk) according to change of porosity(.epsilon.) and Reynolds number(Reh(, and pressure loss of the fluid, are experimentally investigated. Results show that the effective thermal conductivity increases and the friction factor decreased, as against the increase of Reynolds number. But as the increase of porosity increase them both.
The performance of pure friction isolation system with respect to the frequency bandwidth of excitation and the predominant frequency is investigated. A set of earthquake ground motions (artificial as well as recorded [with different combinations of magnitude-distance and local site geology]) is considered for investigating effectiveness of pure friction isolators. The results indicate the performance of pure friction base isolated system does not only depend upon coefficient of friction and mass ratio but the stick-slip behaviour depends upon the frequency content of the excitation as well. Slippage prevails if the excitation frequency lies in a suitable frequency range. This range widens with increasing mass ratio. For larger mass ratios, the sliding effect is more pronounced and the maximum acceleration response is further reduced in the neighbourhood of frequency ratio (${\omega}/{\omega}_n$) of unity. The pure friction isolation system is effective in the case of broadband excitations only and that too, in the acceleration sensitive range of periods. The pure friction system is not effective for protection against narrow band motions for which the system response is quasi-periodic.

Plate heat exchange(PHE) will be applied to the refrigeration and air conditioning systems as evaporators or condensers for their high efficiency and compactness. The purpose of this study is the analyze the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop of plate heat exchanger. Numerical work was conducted using the FLUENT code k-$\varepsilon$model. Also the dependence of heat transfer coefficient and friction factor on Reynolds number was investigated. As the Reynolds number increases, it is found that heat transfer coefficient also increases, but friction factor decreases. The study examines the internal flow, thermal distribution and the pressure distribution in the channel of plate heat exchanger. The results of CFD analysis compared with experimental data, and the difference of friction factor and Nusselt number in plate heat exchanger are 10% and 20%, respectively, Therefore the CFD analysis model is effective for the performance prediction of plate heat exchanger.
To investigate hydraulic and thermal characteristics of ice slurries in a circular tube, ice slurries were tested in a flow loop with a constant heat flux test section, for ranges of flow velocity, ice fraction and heat flux. Heat transfer coefficients and friction factors of ice slurries were calculated by measuring the outer wall temperatures of the test section and the pressure drops over the test section. Heat transfer coefficients of ice slurries were 9% higher than the heat transfer coefficients expected by Petukhov. Friction factors were about 4% lower than the friction factors expected by Petukhov. The effective thermal capacity of ice slurry with 12.8% ice fraction, was found to be about 3 times higher than the thermal capacity of water.
A numerical study has been performed to obtain the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for shell-and-tube heat exchanger with various shapes of tubes. The Tubes have variation of Aspect Ratio, Pitch and Rotation. Results are presented as plots of Colburn j factor and friction factor f against Aspect Ratio, Pitch and Rotation. As Aspect Ratio increases, j factor and f factor decreases. As Pitch increases, j factor decreases. j/f have optimized Pitch for each Aspect Ratio. Accordingly, there is fitness of Aspect Ratio and Pitch fur most effective cases. The Rotation of tubes are of no meaning for both heat transfer and pressure drop.
Existing FPS(Friction Pendulum System) is isolation system which is possible to isolate structures by pendulum characteristic from ground vibration. Structural natural frequency could be decided by designing the radius of curvature of FPS. Thus, response vibration could be reduced by changing natural frequency of structures from FPS. But effective periods of recorded seismic wave were various and estimation of earthquake characteristic could be difficult. If effective periods of seismic wave correspond to natural frequency of structures with FPS, resonance can be occurred. Therefore, CFPBS(Cone-type Friction Pendulum Bearing System) was developed for controlling the response acceleration and displacement by the slope of friction surfaces. Structural natural frequency with CFPBS can be changed according to position of ball on the friction surface which was designed cone-type. Therefore, Divergence of response could be controlled by CFPBS which had constantly changing natural frequency with low modal participation factor in wide-range. In this study, Seismic performance of CFPBS was evaluated by numerical analysis and shaking table test.
This paper summarizes the results of a numerical study conducted to analyze the effect of selected process parameters on material flow and thread profile in thread rolling of large diameter blanks. Based on the previous work where a plane strain mode was found to provide a reasonable approximation of the thread rolling process, the effect of varying thread form, friction factor, flow stress, and blank diameter on effective strain and thread height was analyzed using the finite element code DEFORM. This study show that effective strain for flank angle, that blank diameter had important effect on the as-rolled thread while flow stress, friction factor, and crest round of dies had significant impact on effective strain at the thread root and crest and load of thread rolling. While the rate of strain harding was found to have an effect on the crest profile, the results indicate that it is the primary factor responsible for seam formation in rolled threads.
There have been many studies for the flow through internally finned tube, since the heat exchangers with fin device derive much attention in heat transfer enhance cent. In this study, analysis of laminar flow through the circular tube with longitudinal fins are investigated. The height and the number of fins are arbitrary. The flow field is assumed to be laminar and conformal mapping is used to obtain analytic solution. From the analytic solution, equi-velocity lines are shown, and the flow rate through the finned tube is calculated for various fin heights and numbers of fins. Darcy friction factor for this finned tube and shear stress distributions on the wall and fin are also considered.
