  • So far, previous works with respect to evaluating program contents have concentrated on the implementation of general educational content evaluation. In terms of the efforts required to solve problems, however, there are a few evaluation methods on educational programming language contents. Therefore, we propose new evaluation criteria for educational programming language contents. The detailed research contents can be summarized as follows. First, we analyze existing works and propose naval evaluation criteria for educational programming language contents. Second, the new evaluation criteria is verified by teachers who use Visual Basic educational contents via questionaries. Also, a program content is experimented via the evaluation criteria. Finally, it is expected that our proposed evaluation criteria for educational programming language contents can be used to evaluate newly developed educational programming language contents and to design its evaluation plans.

  • Dolittle is a educational programming language that helps students learning principles and concepts of computer science with programming. Learning programming with robot improve learning achievements robot motivate to be interest with programming. However, Dolittle robot programming is a different from Dolittle programming in process of interpretation and execution mechanism. Therefore, students have virtually to learn two languages to control robot and it would reduce the worth of Dolittle as educational programming language. In order to solve this problem, we tried to Unify Dolittle and robot control language using parser that Dolittle program with turtle object convert robot program. But this try couldn't overcome completely this problem because attributes of turtle object is different from robot. In this research we unified Dolittle programming and Dolittle robot programming as a way of adding new robot object in dolittle standard object group. it would improve educational effect of learning programming with robot in Dolittle.

  • This study developed HanScript, which is an educational Hangul programming language, in order to make programs easily and conveniently and applied it to the school fields. To evaluate HanScript, additionally, the researcher divided the properties of educational programming languages into easiness to read, easiness to write and easiness to debug and, based on them, compared HanScript with Visual Basic. According to the result, HanScript was expressed in Korean language style, so was easier to read and debug than Visual Basic. But it was not different from Visual Basic in debugging. Due to fewer libraries compared to Visual Basic, however, it was difficult to implement complex functions using HanScript. In addition, HanScript did not include an editor to edit source codes. Thus, if HanScript is equipped with rich libraries, detailed debugging information and an editor for source code edition, it will be a useful educational programming language.

  • Recently, domestically and abroad, programming education has become more important and this increase has been recognized. And it needs a certain criteria for a selection of programming tools because there are various educational programming tools coming out. Thus, we tried to develop a criteria on the selection of educational programming language for a novice programmer and K12 students and verify its validity. So we established 4 areas and 28 items for selection criteria on educational programming language. Additionally, we carried out delphi survey and analyze for validity verification on selection criteria established. As result of carrying out of these processes, we developed 4 areas of selection criteria. Finally we have chosen 19 selection criteria and excluded 9 criteria items which are not sufficient with validity criteria through delphi survey.

  • The main aim in software education is to improve problem-solving ability based on computational thinking with the healthy information ethics. For this purpose, many institutions have attempted various educational programs such as Educational Programming Language, Physical Computing, and Robot education. However, it is possible to obscure the essence of computer education for computational thinking if the computer education focuses on using certain special education programming language and products. Therefore, this paper suggests a method of algorithm education using RAPTOR which is a visual programming development environment and is based on flowcharts. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithms education using the RAPTOR, 16 high-school students were applied to an educational program for twelve hours on five steps and then we obtained positive results.

  • Programming training in informatics education have the means that algorithm design and problem solving. However, Because learning and using programming tools that should be done first, elementary school students learning the programming tools that are interested in the process has been reduced. But programming with using an Educational Programming Language(EPL) can show results directly and coding with a drag & drop method that keeps the elementary students' interests for programming. Now that, the students are possible to enhance their creativity and reasoning skills. Therefore, through the result of this study show how to apply the EPL in the elementary information classes and comparing with before this study and after the study, we analyzed to applicate prosperity of EPL.

  • The new national K-12 Information subject curriculum which will be effective in year 2010 includes algorithm and programming sections. Programming languages in K-12 are more effective the Educational Programming Language (EPL) than general language, because it focuses on developing problem solving ability rather than training a programmer. Therefore, it is necessary to study for suitable EPL in Korean K-12 curriculum. In this study, we studied and analyzed various types of EPLs available and strategies to apply them to the new national curriculum. First of all, we chose 26 educational programming languages and analyzed their characteristics and functions. Also, we investigated associations between key factors of the new Information curriculum and each language and suggested a proper language for their students' level. Finally, we considered possible problems and suitability to Korean K-12 students. The result of this study help us to choose what is the proper EPL and to consider applicability and criteria of EPLs.

  • Authentic programming environment makes App Inventor interesting educational programming language. However, there are not sufficient studies for usefulness of App Inventor as educational programming language, so proper design of App Inventor education is not available. This article aims to design proper programming education plan using App Inventor. A survey was conducted to ask for appropriation of App Inventor education to teachers and students. As a result, teachers and students were satisfied with App Inventor for programming language in elementary and secondary schools, due to easy-to-use programming environment and real product run in their devices. But learners need to have prior knowledge to use App Inventor and teachers have to manage learners' devices properly. Finally, revised elementary and secondary programming education plan using App Inventor was presented.

  • Scratch, one of the educational programming languages, provides a media-rich programming environment and easy interface to users. It supports Korean language and is utilized usefully in programming classes in elementary and middle schools. However, programming causes cognitive loads to young students. Because the programming process is a complex problem solving procedure that requires logical and abstract thinking abilities. Therefore, we developed a problem based scratch programming teaching and learning model to enhance intrinsic motivation of learners and to maximize the effects of using the scratch, educational programming language. The developed problem based teaching and learning model considered elementary students' characteristics. It was implemented in fifth grade elementary school classes and the educational effects of the model was analysed. The developed model was helpful in enhancing students' problem solving potential and logical thinking abilities.

  • Lately, studies on the educational effectiveness of educational programming language which can reduce the learning burden of the learners have been conducted in the programming learning process. This study analyzed the effect of programming education on the learning motivation and academic achievement after training the programming education using Scratch and Dolittle on the preliminary elementary school teachers. As a result, the experimental group trained by Scratch programming education showed significantly higher achievement than the control group by Dolittle Programming. This result can be helpful in selecting educational programming language when the programming education will be trained to the preliminary elementary school teachers.
