  • Performance assessment has been introduced to school education as an alternative measure of the former educational assessment which put much emphasis on the result rather than the process of learning, memorization than pursuit of knowledge, and passive than active study. As for the subject of mathematics, the change of the assessment came to replace multiple choice tests with descriptive- and statement-type tests. This means animprovement on the testing system, focusing on the process of finding out the answer. The main focus, however, is still on the intellectual domain without paying due attention to the emotional domain of mathematics education. The previous studies on the assessment of emotional domain In mathematics have shown that there are stumbling blocks in the application of the assessment, such as the disputes on the reliability, objectivity, and fairness as well as the complicated procedure of applying the results to school records. The lack of the development and supply of the appropriate assessment tools have also been pointed out. Therefore, this study has been carried out with the intention of establishing an applicable standard of assessment on the emotional domain of high school matematics. As a result, detailed standards of performance assessment, which adopt oral examination, discussion, observation, and report have been developed. The problems which are likely to emerge In the course of the application of the newly developed assessment are under study as a continuing research project.

  • The accreditation process (AccP) is both an opportunity and a burden for medical schools-which one it becomes depends on how medical schools recognize and utilize the AccP. In other words, if a medical school recognizes the AccP only as a formal procedure or as a means for continuing medical education, it will be a burden for the medical school. However, if a medical school recognizes the real and positive value of the AccP, it can be both an opportunity and a tool for developing medical education. The educational value of the AccP is to improve the quality, equity, and efficiency of medical education, along with increasing the options of choice. In order for the AccP to contribute to the development of medical education, accrediting agencies and medical schools must first be recognized as part of an "educational alliance" working together towards common goals. Secondly, clear guidelines on the accreditation standards should be periodically reviewed and shared. Finally, a formative evaluation using self-evaluation as a system that can utilize the AccP as an opportunity to develop medical education must be introduced. This type of evaluation system could be developed through collaboration among medical schools, academic societies for medical education, and the accrediting authority.

  • Teachers' mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT) strongly influence student achievement (Hill, Rowan, & Ball, 2005). However, there is generally no record that shows the levels of teachers' MKT in schools and districts. Because of the limited resources, schools and districts need some criteria to decide how to distribute their resources to help teachers improve MKT. This study explores what factors in teachers' backgrounds are related to their levels of MKT. This article examines the relationships between the MKT of 336 elementary teachers and their demographic, educational, and teaching backgrounds. To measure MKT, I used a series of multiple-choice problems. The number of years teaching mathematics is not critical to these measures. Implications are discussed with regard to policy for mathematics teacher education.

  • This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework for evaluating the impact of factors influencing the decision of Vietnamese students to study English in the Philippines. The empirical analysis used data from the survey data of 318 respondents living in Vietnam. Comprehensive, valid, and reliable tools (SPSS 26 software) are used to analyze and verify the gathered data, and the hypotheses developed. The results identified the factors that affect the decision of Vietnamese students to study English in the Philippines include knowledge and awareness, personality recommendation, cost issues, environment, geographic proximity, and social link. Based on the overall findings of this study, several implications are presented for educational practices in academies and schools about English teaching in the Philippines. To increase the ability to get students to study English in the country, it is important that schools or academies must understand the demands of students regarding the academic environment, and in particular, to know what factors determine the decision from the customers' point of view. This study contributes significantly to the understanding of agencies and educational managers about the student's choice behavior in the context of the need to improve foreign languages and, thus, help improve the competitiveness of agencies and English schools.

  • The purpose of this study was to better understand the tendencies and general distributive features of mathematical educational activities which are presented in the Nuri Curriculum Teaching Guidebooks. This was done by analysis of 628 mathematical activities suggested in those guidebooks, the total number of which was thirty-two. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the number of activities for mathematical education was 204 for the age of three, 223 for the age of four, and 201 for the age of five. Second, these mathematical educational activities are aimed mainly for developing positive attitudes toward mathematics rather than the delivery of mathematical knowledge and skills. Third, the number of activities for developing mathematical inquiry skills was greater than that of activities for developing of inquiry attitudes. Furthermore, the characteristic of understanding the basic concepts of space and figures can be found most frequently in five kinds of activities for mathematical inquiry. Last, the activities for mathematical education are more frequently found in free choice activities rather than group activities. The results of this study also suggest that checking the current status of mathematical education for young children and the Nuri Curriculum Teaching Guidebooks can be utilized for creating teachers' manuals.

  • We investigated student's characteristics in each educational achievement level using the results of the NAEA (National Assessment of Educational Achievement) in 2009, 2010, and 2011 for Grade 6 students, and compared the characteristics between elementary and middle school students. The analysis of representative items for each educational achievement level of elementary and middle school students revealed that (a) advanced level students from both elementary and middle school could exactly understand the achievement criteria of the curriculum, (b) proficient level students from both elementary and middle school were understanding the achievement criteria of the curriculum superficially, for example, they could not understand concepts exactly but could memorize terms, and so should have compensational education under situations that ask for short answer or essay type items instead of multiple choice items, and (c) basic level students from both elementary and middle school almost could not understand the achievement criteria of curriculum, and so should have compensational education under situations that only deal with a simple situation. Science concepts treated in science curriculum are hierarchically organized by level of school, and simple compensational education for the students of below basic level will not solve learning deficits in science education. Differentiated education by educational achievement should be largely expanded instead.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and verify a Korean Diagnostic Scale of Multiple Intelligence(MI), which will be an alternative test to avoid problems with former Shearer's MI test and to adopt H. Gardner's suggestions to develop MI assessment. The test is developed 5 types; kindergartner, elementary lower grader, elementary upper grader, middle schooler, high schooler test. A form of test is diversified with 3 types; multiple-choice items for accomplishment, true or false items for ability, and self-reported items with likert scale for interest and ability. According to H. Gardner's suggestions, we have tried to reanalyze key component of MI, analyze an overlapping or hierarchical relationship between intelligences, develop intelligences-fair items, diversify form of item. We have developed a final standardized test through a primary, secondary preliminary-test analysis, and sampled 5,585 students by age, gender, and regional groups. As a result of this sampling test, we can get a norm score and compare individuals with other's score relatively. To verify this test, we analyzed behavior observation, mean, standard deviation, a percentage of correct answers, reliability of each test type, correlation between intelligence scales, Kruskal-Wallis test of mean rank of career choice by intelligences. As a result of correlation analysis between sub-intelligence scales, we can conclude that this MI test is satisfied with intelligence independent assumption. Besides, as non-parametric statistics test(Kruskal-Wallis) of career choice by intelligences, we can identify that MI is related with domain of career choice. This test is not a linguistic and logical-mathematical biased test but a intelligences-fair test. It makes us compare individual's potential with a norm score. Besides, it could be useful as a means of educational prescription or counsel in comparison with ability, interest, and accomplishment of individual. But this test is limited to do factor or correlation analysis between types of sub-test, because items are minimized for a time-constraint and a heavy burden of test receiver. But if it could be tested with increased items by two sessions, further research could be expected to get over this constraints and do a further validation analysis.

  • The challenge of education reform and the demand for textbook revision were inevitable as to help people manage changes in the twenty-first century. The 7th educational program not only has different educational goals, purposes and methods compare to the previous 6th program, but also introduces an epochal plan so called "free-choice learning" which involves considerable choices on the part of the learner as to what and which subject to learn. For the education on mathematics, applying computer and calculators to the studies were one of the goals educational process. This research encompasses ways to approach computer application in the 7th high school s on mathematics. The main contents of our paper are analysis of 16 different kinds of high school textbooks, its status of uses in each textbooks, math relating programs, use of computers, use of programs, use of computers in each textbooks and use of internets.internets.
