In this paper, a ship detection method is proposed; this method uses edge-based segmentation and histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) with the ship size ratio. The proposed method can prevent a marine collision accident by detecting ships at close range. Furthermore, unlike radar, the method can detect ships that have small size and absorb radio waves because it involves the use of a vision-based system. This system performs three operations. First, the foreground is separated from the background and candidates are detected using Sobel edge detection and morphological operations in the edge-based segmentation part. Second, features are extracted by employing HOG descriptors with the ship size ratio from the detected candidate. Finally, a support vector machine (SVM) verifies whether the candidates are ships. The performance of these methods is demonstrated by comparing their results with the results of other segmentation methods using eight-fold cross validation for the experimental results.

When error occurs during the network transmission of the image, the quality of the restored image is very serious. Therefore to maintain the received image quality, the error concealment technique is necessary. This paper presents an efficient spatial error concealment method using adaptive edge-oriented interpolation. It deals with errors on slice level. The proposed method uses boundary matching method having 2-step processes. We divide error block into external and internal region, adaptively restore each region. Because this method use overall as well as local edge characteristics, it preserves edge continuity and texture feature. The proposed technique reduces the complexity and provide better reconstruction quality for damaged images than the previous methods.
To investigate edge vegetation structure and edge species in Chiak Mountain National Park, field survey was executed from July to September, 1988. Canonpy drip-line type, cantilevered type and advancing type of edge vegetation were observed on site. The relative importance values of major species in each crown layer were changed along distance from edge to forest interior differently by aspect and present tree layer vegetation. Especially light-oriented edge species as codominant species were observed in Pinus densiflora forest interior at south slope and moisture - oriented species as codominant species were observed with light-oriented species in north edge beside torrential stream. No. of species and individuals by crown layer, species diversities and dissimilarities were decreased according to the distance from edge to forest interior, and edge depth was estimated as 15-20m. Dominant species of edge in shrub and ground layer were different by altitude and topographic locations; valley, ridge, summit and edge species at summit were not observed at other area. Floristic similarities between edge vegetations at different environments were affected by altitude, aspect and topographic location. Frequency classes of edge species were different by aspect, altitude and topographic location. Weigela subscssilis showed high frequency class in all environment conditions and Quercus mongolica, Lindera obtusiloba, Symplocos chinensis for, pilosa, weigela subscssilis, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Actinidia arguta, Rubus crategifolius. Pinus densiflora, Aralia elata etc, were observed as edge species at all environmental conditions, respectively.
To interpret the seismic image precisely, random noises should be suppressed and the continuity of the image should be enhanced by using the appropriate smoothing techniques. Structure-Oriented Filter-Edge Preserving (SOF-EP) technique is one of the methods, that have been actively researched and used until now, to efficiently smooth seismic data while preserving the continuity of signal. This technique is based on the principle that diffusion occurs from large amplitude to small one. In a continuous structure such as a horizontal layer, diffusion or smoothing is operated along the layer, thereby increasing the continuity of layers and eliminating random noise. In addition, diffusion or smoothing across boundaries at discontinuous structures such as faults can be avoided by employing the continuity decision factor. Accordingly, the precision of the smoothing technique can be improved. However, in the case of the structure-oriented semblance technique, which has been used to calculate the continuity factor, it takes lots of time depending on the size of the filter and data. In this study, we first implemented the SOF-EP method and confirmed its effectiveness by applying it step by step to the field data. Next, we proposed and applied the corner response method which can efficiently calculate the continuity decision factor instead of structure-oriented semblance. As a result, we could confirm that the computation time can be reduced by about 6,000 times or more by applying the corner response method.

This paper proposed a novel do-interlacing algorithm using all direction edges estimation technique. In the proposed algorithm. previously developed the DOI(Direction-Oriented Interpolation) algorithm was used as a basis. The do-interlacing method was divided into two main parts. First, we should estimate edge direction. Then, missing pixel: were interpolated along with the decided edge. In this paper, after estimating the edge through the DOI algorithm considering high angle edge direction, missing pixels were interpolated by using the median filter. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is superior to the conventional algorithms in terms of the objective and subjective criteria.

This paper proposes a fast patch-based de-blurring algorithm including kernel estimation based on the angle between the edge and the blur direction. For de-blurring, image patches from the most informative edges in the blurry image are used to estimate a kernel with low computational cost. Moreover, the kernels of each patch are estimated based on the correlation between the edge direction and the blur direction. This makes the final kernel more reliable and creates an accurate latent image from the blurry image. The combination of directionally oriented kernel estimation and patch-based de-blurring is faster and more accurate than existing state-of-the art methods. Experimental results using various test images show that the proposed method achieves its objectives: speed and accuracy.
Human sensing is an important but challenging technology. Unlike other methods for sensing humans, a vision sensor has many advantages, and there has been active research in automatic human detection in camera images. The combination of Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is currently one of the most successful methods in vision-based human detection. However, extracting HOG features from an image is computer intensive, and it is thus hard to employ the HOG method in real-time processing applications. This paper describes an efficient solution to this speed problem of the HOG method. Our method obtains edge information of an image and finds candidate regions where humans very likely exist based on the distribution pattern of the detected edge points. The HOG features are then extracted only from the candidate image regions. Since complex HOG processing is adaptively done by the guidance of the simpler edge detection step, human detection can be performed quickly. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in various images.
In this paper, we proposed a novel edge-oriented color interpolation method which determine the edge direction with hard-decision based on high correlation between different channels. The novel edge direction estimation criterion improves the color interpolation method especially on edges by considering high frequencies between channels.
Recently, object-oriented concepts and technology are on the leading edge of programming language and database systems research, and their usefulness in those contexts has been successfully demonstrated. The adoption of object-oriented concept to the design of model bases has several benefits. From the perspectives of object-oriented approach, models in a model base are viewed as object which encapsulate their states and behaviors. This paper focuses on the design of an object-oriented model base that handles various resources of DSS(data, knowledge, models, solvers) in a unified fashion. For the design of a model base, we adopted Object Modeling Techniques(OMT). An object model of OMT can be used for the conceptual design of an overall model base schema. The object model of OMT provides several advantages over the conventional approaches in model base design. The main advantage are model reuse, hierarchical model construction, model sharing, meta-modeling, and unified model object management.
