In this paper, the Zynq system-on-chip (SoC) platform is used to design an adaptive noise reduction and edge-detection system using partial reconfiguration. Filters are implemented in a partially reconfigurable (PR) region to provide high computational complexity in real-time, 1080p video processing. In addition, partial reconfiguration enables better utilization of hardware resources in the embedded system from autonomous replacement of filters in the same PR region. The proposed edge-detection system performs adaptive noise reduction if the noise density level in the incoming video sequences exceeds a given threshold value. Results of implementation show that the proposed system improves the accuracy of edge-detection results (14~20 times in Pratt's Figure of Merit) through self-reconfiguration of filter bitstreams triggered by noise density level in the video sequences. In addition, the ZyCAP controller implemented in this paper enables about 2.1 times faster reconfiguration when compared to a PCAP controller.

The error diffusion algorithm is good for reproducing continuous image to binary image. However the reproduction of edge characteristic is weak in power spectrum analysts of display error. In this paper, an error diffusion method which include pre-filter algorithm for edge characteristic enhancement is proposed Pre-filter algorithm is organized horizontal and vertical directional differential value and weighting function of pre-filter First, it is obtained the horizontal and vertical differential value from the peripheral pixels in original image using $3{\times}3$ Sobel operator Secondly weighting function of pre-filter is composed by function including absolute value and sign of differential value The improved Error diffusion algorithm using pre-filter, present a good result visually which edge characteristic is enhanced. The difference between orignal image and halftoning image is compared with edge-enhanced error diffusion algorithm by measuring the radially averaged power spectrum density.

As the digital image devices are widely used, interests in the software- and the hardware-related image processing become higher and the image processing techniques are applied in various fields such as object recognition, object detection, fingerprint recognition, and etc. For the edge detections Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian, Roberts and Canny detectors are used and these existing methods can excellently detect the edges of the images without noise. However, in the images corrupted by the impulse noise, these methods are insufficent in noise elimination characteristics, showing unsatisfactory edge detection. Therefore in this paper, in order to obtain excellent edge detection characteristics in the corrupted image by the impulse noise, an detection algorithm is porposed, which uses the central pixel of mask divided by four regions along the axis, calculates the estimated mask according to the representing pixel values in each regions, and detects the final edges by applying the estimates mask and the new directional one.
In Part I, developed was a method to obtain the stress field due to an edge dislocation that locates in an elastic half plane beneath the contact edge of an elastically similar square wedge. Essential result was the corrective functions which incorporate a traction free condition of the free surfaces. In the sequel to Part I, features of the corrective functions, Fkij,(k = x, y;i,j = x,y) are investigated in this Part II at first. It is found that Fxxx(ŷ) = Fxyx(ŷ) where ŷ = y/η and η being the location of an edge dislocation on the y axis. When compared with the corrective functions derived for the case of an edge dislocation at x = ξ, analogy is found when the indices of y and x are exchanged with each other as can be readily expected. The corrective functions are curve fitted by using the scatter data generated using a numerical technique. The algebraic form for the curve fitting is designed as Fkij(ŷ) = $\frac{1}{\hat{y}^{1-{\lambda}}I+yp}$$\sum_{q=0}^{m}{\left}$$\left[A_q\left(\frac{\hat{y}}{1+\hat{y}} \right)^q \right]$ where λI=0.5445, the eigenvalue of the adhesive complete contact problem introduced in Part I. To investigate the exponent of Fkij, i.e.(1 - λI) and p, Log|Fkij|(ŷ)-Log|(ŷ)| is plotted and investigated. All the coefficients and powers in the algebraic form of the corrective functions are obtained using Mathematica. Method of analyzing a surface perpendicular crack emanated from the complete contact edge is explained as an application of the curve-fitted corrective functions.

Two-dimensional steady state simulations of planar type radio frequency inductively coupled plasma (RFICP) have been performed. The characteristics of RFICP were investigated in terms of power transfer efficiency, equivalent circuit analysis, spatial distribution of plasma density and electron temperature. Plasma density and electron temperature were determined from the equations of ambipolar diffusion and energy conservation. Joule heating, ionization, excitation and elastic collision loss were included as the source terms of the electron energy equation. The electromagnetic field was calculated from the vector potential formulation of ampere's law. The peak electron temperature decreases from about 4eV to 2eV as pressure increases from 5 mTorr to 100 mTorr. The peak density increases with increasing pressure. Electron temperatures at the center of the chamber are almost independent of input power and electron densities linearly increase with power level. The results agree well with theoretical analysis and experimental results. A single turn, edge feeding antenna configuration shows better density uniformity than a four-turn antenna system at relatively low pressure conditions. The thickness of the dielectric window should be minimized to reduce power loss. The equivalent resistance of the system increases with both power and pressure, which reflects the improvement of power transfer efficiency.
In low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems, probabilistic information are exchanged between an LDPC decoder and a MIMO detector. TheMIMO detector has to calculate probabilistic values for each bit which can be very complex. In [1], the authors presented a class of linear block codes named low-density MIMO codes (LDMC) which can reduce the complexity of MIMO detector. However, this code only supports the outer-iterations between the MIMO detector and decoder, but does not support the inner-iterations inside the LDPC decoder. In this paper, a new approach to construct LDMC codes is introduced. The new LDMC codes can be encoded efficiently at the transmitter side and support both of the inner-iterations and outer-iterations at the receiver side. Furthermore they can achieve the design rates and perform very well over MIMO channels.
A common constraint-range model was suggested to explain the extraction of edge orientation from kinetic occlusion and five experiments were performed to verify this model. Results of the experiments show that the subjects' ability to identify the orientation of the kinetic edge increases as the angle of common constraint-range decreases. If the common constraint-range was fixed, the number of occluded elements or the interval between them had no effect on the accuracy. These results indicate that in the edge extraction process from kinetic occlusion, the angle of common constraint-range plays more important role than the density of background texture, supporting the common constraint-range model.
An efficient edge-based smoothed finite element method (ES-FEM) has been recently developed for solving solid mechanics problems. The ES-FEM uses triangular elements that can be generated easily for complicated domains. In this paper, the complexity study of the ES-FEM based on triangular elements is conducted in detail, which confirms the ES-FEM produces higher computational efficiency compared to the FEM. Therefore, the ES-FEM offers an excellent platform for adaptive analysis, and this paper presents an efficient adaptive procedure based on the ES-FEM. A smoothing domain based energy (SDE) error estimate is first devised making use of the features of the ES-FEM. The present error estimate differs from the conventional approaches and evaluates error based on smoothing domains used in the ES-FEM. A local refinement technique based on the Delaunay algorithm is then implemented to achieve high efficiency in the mesh refinement. In this refinement technique, each node is assigned a scaling factor to control the local nodal density, and refinement of the neighborhood of a node is accomplished simply by adjusting its scaling factor. Intensive numerical studies, including an actual engineering problem of an automobile part, show that the proposed adaptive procedure is effective and efficient in producing solutions of desired accuracy.

In recent years, a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) has been used in various kinds of transportation applications for its relative high power density and efficiency. The general transportation system arranges the armature on the full length of transportation lines. However, when this method is applied to long distance transportation system, it causes increase of material cost and manufacturing time. Thus, in order to resolve this problem, we suggested stationary discontinuous armature PMLSM. However, the stationary discontinuous armature PMLSM contains the edges which always exist as a result of the discontinuous arrangement of the armature. These edges become a problem because the cogging force that they exert bad influences the controllability of the motor. Therefore, in this paper we proposed the combination of skewed magnets and stair shape auxiliary teeth to reduce the force by edge effect. Moreover, we analyzed the influence of the design factors by using a 3-D finite element method (FEM) simulation tool.
YBCO step-edge Josephson junction were fabricated on sapphire substrates. The steps were formed on R-plane sapphire substrates by using Ar ion milling with PR masks. The step angle was controlled in the wide range from 25$^{\circ}$ to 50$^{\circ}$ by adjusting both the Ar ion incident angle and the photoresist mask rotation angle relative to the incident Ar ion beam. CeO$_2$ buffer layer and in-situ YBa$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) thin films was deposited on the stepped R-plane sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition method. The YBCO film thickness was varied to obtain the ratio of film thickness to step height in the range from 0.5 to 1. The step edge junction exhibited RSJ-like behaviors with I$_cR_n$ product of 100 ${\sim}$ 300 ${\mu}$V, critical current density of 10$^3$${\sim}$ 10$^5$ A/ cm$^2$ at 77 K.
