Analysis of Economic Lifespan for Replacement Policy of Container Ship using Fuzzy Interval Numbers

  • This study determined the ship replacement life expectancy from an economic perspective. There are many ambiguities in the cost for calculation of economic lifespan, and these were expressed as fuzzy numbers. Also, a fuzzy cost model using fuzzy numbers was developed and suggested as a more practical analysis method than the existing cost model. And the suggested fuzzy model was used to determine the economic lifespan for various types of container ships. As the result, Without fuzziness, the economic lifespan of 5000 TEU Ships was found to be 19 years. it was found that the greater the container ship, the greater the economic lifespan was.

  • Apartments amount to 58.3%, the highest proportion of domestic housing types. These apartments' lifespan (approximately 27 years) are one-third of the developed countries' housing lifespan due to the property developers and mass production. It is significantly short-cycle period considering the original physical lifespan of the apartment housing are 60 years. It has caused economic loss and environmental degradation. In recent years, research and development for the long life of the apartment housing has been actively performed, but it is limited on reconstruction and new construction. Reconstruction of existing a number of high-rise apartments is difficult owing to restrictions on the floor area ratio allowing for 40 years limit of decay resistance after the completion. Improving lifespan of the building has recently begun to receive attention as an alternative to remodeling. However, These sort of remodeling techniques tend to be focused on technology developed for the physical life extension. That means developing the techniques about dwelling-unit environment for residents satisfaction are required as well as improving physical construction. The purpose of this study is to propose and verify the Participatory Design Technique which can help the residents as the active participation in the design decision-making process.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the cure program for family caregivers of elderly with dementia, As the lifespan has been expanded, Most of family caregivers had serious problems which are burden for caregiving(economic burden. physical & social burden, negative elderly-family caregiving relationship) and the life quality of the elderly and family caregivers and the future social welfare alternatives for taking care of the elderly. To develop the cure program for family caregivers of elderly with dementia is very important. This program can prevent to be another elderly with dementia. The results can be used as basic data to develop educational programs for family caregivers.

  • About 50,000 hives of Bombus terrestris are used for pollination of tomato and other economical crops (fruit vegetables and fruit trees) in Korea. Therefore this study was conducted to find out the effective use of B. terrestris and its economic effect in the major beefsteak-tomato cultivation areas from February to August in 2008. The pollinating activities, rate of bite-mark and lifespan of B. terrestris's hive according to all beefsteak-tomato varieties (Super Momotaro, Zeus42, Mascara and Super Sunroad, 500 $m^2$, $9,600{\sim}12,000$plants) were apparent by regular supplement of pollen ($5{\sim}6g$/3 days) to the hive of B. terrestris. Especially, Super Momotaro and Super Sunroad variety were most distinctive in the effects by regular pollen supplement.

  • Although technological progress is considered a key element for economic growth and development of a country, strong empirical evidence in this regard is not available yet. Therefore, to establish the empirical link between technology progress and economic development, it is advisable to carry out a time series analysis. In this regard, the Technology Achievement Index (TAI) of 100 top economies has been developed to examine the position of countries' technological progress for the 21 years spanning 1995 to 2015. Countries have been ranked on their TAI which is based on four pillars; technology creation, diffusion of older innovations, diffusion of recent innovations, and development of human skills. As well, this current study re-calculates the Humane Development Index (HDI) of 100 top economies for the 21 years from 1995 to 2015. Ranking of countries' HDI values reflects three dimensions: A long lifespan (life expectancy index), knowledge (Education Index) and a decent standard of living (Gross National Income Index, or GNI). The Standard Deviation (SD) technique has been used to investigate the technological gap between individual countries and groups of countries or regions. For a more meaningful assessment, technological gaps from the maximum achievement value (i.e., one of the countries under study) are presented as well. To investigate the impact of technological progress on economic development, this study introduces a model in which the HDI is used as the dependent variable and the TAI and Gross Capital Formation (GCF) are used as independent variables. The HDI, TAI and GCF are used in this model as proxy variables for economic development, technological progress and capital respectively. Econometric techniques have been used to show the impact of technological progress on economic development. The results show that long-term associations exist between technology progress and economic development; the impact of technology progress on economic development is 13.2% while the impact is 4.3% higher in eight selected East South Asian countries, at 13.5%, than in eight selected highly developed countries (9.2%).

The Relationships between CO2 Emissions, Economic Growth and Life Expectancy

  • The issue of the relationship between environmental degradation and human health has been widely addressed by medical doctors. However, economists have sparsely debated it. The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air can cause several environmental problems and, thus, it can affect human health. Therefore, it is imperative to examine the effect of CO2 emissions on life expectancy in the D-8 countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey) from 1992 to 2017. The panel ARDL method is employed and, then, the PMG estimator is selected. The results show that economic growth, population growth and health expenditure can significantly and positively affect life expectancy, but CO2 emissions can have a significant and negative effect on life expectancy. Since, the major findings reveal that life expectancy can be explained by CO2 emissions. Hence, it is important to formulate policies on reducing CO2 emissions so that life expectancy will not be affected. Energy diversification policies should be formulated or improved in some countries. This is to ensure that the countries are not highly dependent on non-renewable energy that can harm the environment. The government should increase its expenditure on the health sector to save more lives by extend human lifespan.

A Study on Disposal Diagnosis Algorithm of PV Modules Considering Performance Degradation Rate (태양광모듈의 성능저하율을 고려한 폐기진단 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the installation of renewable energy including PV systems in distribution systems has increased energetically to cope with climate change and energy shortages according to the government's policy of renewable energy 3020. On the other hand, the electrical performance and lifespan of PV modules installed outdoors can be decreased considerably due to a range of deterioration phenomena depending on the ambient environmental factors. To overcome these problems, replacement of degraded PV modules with new ones is increased before the lifespan guaranteed by the makers of PV modules. Therefore, this paper proposes a disposal diagnosis algorithm to evaluate the time interval of the optimal replacement for PV modules according to performance degradation rate of PV modules. In addition, this study modeled an economic evaluation, which is composed of the cost and benefit of PV systems. From the simulation results based on the proposed modeling and algorithm to consider the performance degradation rate specifically, the replacement approach was found to have the best B/C ratio in 10th year with a 3[%] degradation rate and the disposal diagnosis algorithm of PV modules are useful and practical tools for economic evaluations of the replacement of PV modules.

Life cycle cost analysis and smart operation mode of ground source heat pump system

  • This paper presents an advanced life cycle cost (LCC) analysis of a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system and suggests a smart operation mode with a thermal performance test (TPT) and an energy pile system constructed on the site of the Incheon International Airport (IIA). First, an economic analysis of the GSHP system was conducted for the second passenger terminal of the IIA considering actual influencing factors such as government support and the residual value of the equipment. The analysis results showed that the economic efficiency of the GSHP system could be increased owing to several influential factors. Second, a multiple regression analysis was conducted using different independent variables in order to analyze the influence indices with regard to the LCC results. Every independent index, in this case the initial construction cost, lifespan of the equipment, discount rate and the amount of price inflation can affect the LCC results. Third, a GSHP system using an energy pile was installed on the site of the construction laboratory institute of the IIA. TPTs of W-shape and spiral-coil-type GHEs were conducted in continuous and intermittent operation modes, respectively, prior to system operation of the energy pile. A cooling GSHP system in the energy pile was operated in both the continuous and intermittent modes, and the LCC was calculated. Furthermore, the smart operation mode and LCC were analyzed considering the application of a thermal storage tank.

  • Along with the heightening development of modern medical technology in the world, the economy and quality of lifestyle has contributed to the increase in the average lifespan. Therefore the issue to deal with the aging population is becoming an important social issue. As aging population becomes a serious social problem, the issue of supporting the senior citizens is confronted with a more difficult situation. From the perspective of senior citizen's physical and social and economic situations, there are great difficulties to deal with, like lowered physical ability compared to the rest of population. Therefore the supply of senior welfare facility that is based on senior citizen's physical characteristics yet provides the opportunity to be independent needs to provided rather than just planning a simple facility that provides living accommodations. This research examines thereinto welfare center's usage of residential circulation system from the senior welfare facilities' type classification to understand the actual usage problem and presents a circulation plan that will resolve the problem.

Improved Crash Detection Algorithm for Vehicle Crash Detection

  • A majority of car crash is affected by careless driving that causes extensive economic and social costs, as well as injuries and fatalities. Thus, the research of precise crash detection systems is very significant issues in automotive safety. A lot of crash detection algorithms have been developed, but the coverage of these algorithms has been limited to few scenarios. Road scenes and situations need to be considered in order to expand the scope of a collision detection system to include a variety of collision modes. The proposed algorithm effectively handles the x, y, and z axes of the sensor, while considering time and suggests a method suitable for various real worlds. To reduce nuisance and false crash detection events, the algorithm discriminated between driving mode and parking mode. The performance of the suggested algorithm was evaluated under various scenarios, and it successfully discriminated between driving and parking modes, and it adjusted crash detection events depending on the real scenario. The proposed algorithm is expected to efficiently manage the space and lifespan of the storage device by allowing the vehicle's black box system to store only necessary crash event's videos.
