  • Existing BIM(Building Information Modeling) based energy evaluation tools cannot be utilized enough for the potential performance of BIM because most of them have not provided the integrated model for energy evaluation, assessment of the material, cost of the construction, and so on. This research aims to propose and develop a new application, EcoBIM, to support an integrated evaluation of the energy and cost efficiencies of the design alternatives within the design process. The proposed application functions as a BIM-based evaluation system that calculates energy-savings performance as well as the construction cost of the alternatives at the design stage. This study mainly focuses on the possibilities of developing the proposed technology. We also suggest an advanced design process using the proposed system, corresponding to changes of national regulations in Korea. This study deduce that EcoBIM can allow architects to make suitable decisions regarding energy- and cost-efficient designs. The proposed design process will allow architects not only to check the eco-friendly performance of design alternatives but also predict the operation cost in a certain period in the future. EcoBIM can prevent large-scale design changes required to obtain environmental certification and enable the owner to make an informed decision about the initial investment of construction according to the result of the analysis of the energy requirement at the design stage.

  • This study has been conducted focusing on the analysis of the turn-key proposal for Gimpo-Han River New City. The study expected that it would come up with design trends and introduction properties of each plan for the eco-friendly development of an apartment house. The concept of environment-friendly design was thought in four parts: 'Land use and transportation,' 'Ecological environment', 'Energy resource and environmental impact' and analysis factors of each part were chosen by specific items from the prospective researches and guidelines that already given on the projects. In conclusion, a proper development of the environmental-friendly apartment house will not be achieved unless the designers try to overcome their prejudice against eco-friendly planning elements applications. Along with the designers' attempt, it is also necessary to review the evaluation articles of the certification system for the existing environmental-friendly structures as well as to compensate and establish detailed evaluation standards. As the problems are being worked on, an integrated, effective evaluation standard for the eco-friendly planning elements will be determined. This way, an environmental-friendly residential development with a better quality will be eventually realized.

For this purpose, we conducted a survey on questionnaires answered by 244 students of S university at lunch time in the school restaurant with the imaginary scenario that it is required to increase the food price due to photovoltaic-equipment. The students were divided into 9 groups and according to whether the eco-friendly message components are offered and the different rate of a rise in the foods' price. In order to look over various aspects of attitudes, the questionnaires are subdivided into 2 parts according to the classification of attitudes; the preference as an cognitive-affective attitude and the intention of visit as an behavioral attitudes. The results of this study are summarized as follows; (1) The eco-friendly message design has a significant effect on students' attitude. (2) If given explanation including information regarding eco-friendly facility and marking eco-friendly' adject, it has an positive influence on students' preference and intention of visit. (3) It is more effective to offer the information about the reason why the cost increase than just explain the eco-friendly characteristics of object as the message design strategy to attract student's positive attitude. (4) Although it is required to burden a certain scale of cost, students show higher preference and intention of visit if given the eco-friendly message design.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present an efficient emission reduction ratio of plastic to reduce carbon dioxide, the main cause of greenhouse gases. Research design, data and methodology: This study calculated the absolute value of carbon dioxide by setting an equation through the emission coefficient using the US EPA's WARM model. Results: In the recycling ratio of 70%, it was found that the energy recovery ratio was 15.6%, which was the energy recovery ratio without generating carbon dioxide. When carbon dioxide is generated by changing plastic waste emissions, optimal efficiency is achieved by reducing emissions by 10% to 30% of energy recovery ratio, 20% to 50% of energy recovery ratio, and 30% to 80% or more of energy recovery ratio. Conclusions: The recycling rate should be set at a minimum of 70%, so that a carbon dioxide-free energy recovery rate could be obtained during the recycling process, supporting an eco-friendly basis for environmental policies aimed at this rate. In addition, it was possible to suggest that it is essential to reduce emissions by at least 30% for eco-friendly recycling measures that can achieve both economic and environmental feasibility in the energy recovery process through incineration during recycling in Korea.

  • This study aims to investigate the eco-friendly planning methods for a sustainable apartment houses in the Metropolitan area of Seoul. Eco-friendly plans that considers the environmental issues were attempted from the beginning of 2000s, and since then, many apartment houses in Korea were built using this concept. They were, however, generally focusing on the physical and spatial aspects of the site plan. After the Seoul C40 weather summit conference in 2009, the low carbon green housing standard has been emphasized and thus the chemical concept was added to the existing physical planning methods. Under such a background, this study intends to investigate the eco-friendly plans for the apartment houses in the 2000s. This includes an ecological network plan, an ecological base plan, a building greening plan, a water treatment plan, and an energy saving plan. Based on the analysis and synthesis of these planning methods in the early 21st century, it would be possible to set up a proper future plan to enhance the sustainable built environment in the housing industry in the coming years.
