  • The requirement of acoustic material which is used in underwater environment more increases. The material is used to reduce acoustic signature and radiate noise for underwater vehicle. Underwater acoustic material was made by viscoelastic material such as a rubber and a polyurethane etc. The mechanical and acoustic characteristics of these material change with hydrostatic pressure. In order to increase an acoustic performance according to hydrostatic pressure, several kinds of scatterers were added to viscoelastic material. In this paper, acoustic modelling and analysis techniques of underwater acoustic material with hydrostatic pressure were introduced and proposed. The specimens for pulse tube test were made and echo reductions were calculated and measured with hydrostatic pressure. Also the characteristics of echo reduction of the specimens with hydrostatic pressure were obtained and discussed.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear echo cancellation approach, based on a Gauss-Seidel pseudo affine projection algorithm and Volterra filtering, is proposed to compensate for echo path nonlinearity in the telephone network. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach yields reduction of computational complexity and improved convergence speed than the conventional nonlinear echo cancellation methods (NLMS, ECLMS, FAP, RLS).

  • In this paper, a new pre-processing algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of stereo acoustic echo canceller. The proposed algorithm has the improved performance by the estimation error reduction of filter coefficient using input signal which was reduced reverberation of room in the basis MINT (Mu1tip1e-input/output Inverse Theorem) filtering. For real stereo speech signal and real room impulse response the results of simulation, we showed that the proposed method could improved 3∼5 dB ERLE (Echo Return Loss Enhancement) regardless of NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) and Projection adaptive algorithm.

  • In this paper, a tile projector for the active control of low-frequency underwater echoes is studied using finite element method. Compared to the existing underwater actuators used for echo reduction, the tile projector is better suited for covering a wide area such as the hull of a submarine. In order to actively match the acoustic impedance at the water-object interface, the projector is driven to radiate a pressure wave that is the inverted replica of the echo at the interface. Finite element simulations demonstrate significant echo reductions due to the active impedance matching by the tile projector.

  • This paper presents the integrated speech enhancement system for hands-free mobile communication. The proposed integrated system incorporates both acoustic echo cancellation and engine noise reduction device to provide signal enhancement of desired speech signal from the echoed plus noisy environments. To implement the system, a delayless subband adaptive structure is used for acoustic echo cancellation operation. The NLMS based adaptive noise canceller then applied to the residual echo removed noisy signal to achieve the selective engine noise attenuation in dominant frequency component. Two sets of computer simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system; one for the fixed acoustical environment condition, the other for the robustness of the system in which, more realistic situation, the acoustic transmission environment change. Simulation results confirm the system performance of 20-25dB ERLE in acoustic echo cancellation and 9-19 dB engine noise attenuation in dominant frequency component for both cases.

  • We have designed ramp profile excitation pulse based on the Shinnar-Le Roux (SLR) algorithm. The algorithm provides many advantages to pulse designers. The first advantage is the freedom of deciding the amplitudes, frequencies, and ripple sizes of stopband, passband, and transition band of pulse profile. The second advantage is the freedom of deciding the pulse phase, more specifically, minimum phase, linear phase, maximum phase, and any phase between them. The minimum phase pulse is the best choice in the case of 3D TOF, because it minimizes the echo time, which implies the best image quality in the same MR examination condition. In addition, the half echo technique is slightly modified in our case. In general, using the half echo technique means that the acquired data size is half and the rest part can be filled with complex conjugate of acquired data. But in our case, the echo center is just shifted to left, which implies the reduction of echo time, and the acquired data size is the same as the one without using the half echo technique. In this case, the increase of right part of data leads to improvement of the resolution and the decrease of left part of data leads to decrease of signal to noise ratio. Since in the case of 3D TOF, the signal to noise ratio is sufficiently high and the resolution is more important than signal to noise ratio, the proposed method appears to be significantly affective and gives rise to the improved high resolution angiograms.

  • This paper presents an algorithm of a single chip acoustic speech enhancement for telematics device. The algorithm consists of two stages, i.e. noise reduction and echo cancellation. An adaptive filter based on cross spectral estimation is used to cancel echo. The external background noise is eliminated and the clear speech is estimated by using MMSE log-spectral magnitude estimation. To be suitable for use in consumer electronics, we also design a low cost, high speed and flexible hardware architecture. The performance of the proposed speech enhancement algorithms were measured both by the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and recognition accuracy of an automatic speech recognition(ASR) and yields better results compared with the conventional methods.

  • Purpose: To investigate and compensate the effects of respiration-induced B0 variations on fat quantification of the bone marrow in the lumbar spine. Materials and Methods: Multi-echo gradient echo images with navigator echoes were obtained from eight healthy volunteers at 3T clinical scanner. Using navigator echo data, respiration-induced B0 variations were measured and compensated. Fat fraction maps were estimated using $T2^*$-IDEAL algorithm from the uncompensated and compensated images. For manually drawn bone marrow regions, the estimated B0 variations and the calculated fat fractions (before and after compensations) were analyzed. Results: An increase of temporal B0 variations from inferior level to superior levels was observed for all subjects. After compensation using navigator echo data, the effects of the B0 variations were reduced in gradient echo images. The calculated fat fractions show significant differences (P < 0.05) in L1 and L3 between the uncompensated and the compensated. Conclusion: The results of this study raise the need for considering respiration-induced B0 variations for accurate fat quantification using gradient echo images in the lumbar spine. The use of navigator echo data can be an effective way for the reduction of the effects of respiratory motion on the quantification.

  • In active sonar system, clutters degrade performance of target detection/tracking and overwhelm sonar operators in ASW (Antisubmarine Warfare). Conventional clutter reduction algorithms using consistency of local peaks are studied in multi-ping data and tracking filter research for active sonar was conducted. However these algorithms cannot classify target and clutters in single ping data. This paper suggests a single ping clutter reduction approach to reduce clutters in mid-frequency active sonar system using echo shape features. The algorithm performance test is conducted using real sea-trial data in heavy clutter density environment. It is confirmed that the number of clutters was reduced by about 80 % over the conventional algorithm while retaining the detection of target.
