초기 청소년의 성별 및 대인관계 요인이 휴대전화 용도별 이용빈도의 변화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Gender and Interpersonal Factors on Early Adolescents' Trajectories of Mobile Phone Use With Reference to its Purposes)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the trajectories of mobile phone use with reference to its purposes, and to examine the effects of gender and interpersonal factors on the same in early adolescents. Methods: Latent growth modeling was used with a sample of 2,378 early adolescents from Grade 4 to 8. Data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute were used. Results: In boys and girls, overtime, the level of mobile phone use for communicating with family decreased, while that for communicating with friends increased. Level of mobile phone use for entertainment increased across time in boys; however, in girls, it increased from Grade 4 to 6 and decreased thereafter, until Grade 8. Gender was associated with the changes of mobile phone use according to the purpose of the same. Positive parenting, negative parenting, relationships with peers, and relationships with teachers predicted changes in mobile phone use for communicating with friends. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the processes involved in the trajectories of mobile phone use in early adolescence operate differently based on the purposes of the same. Additionally, the present results show that interpersonal factors are highly associated with mobile phone use for communicating with friends.

일 지역 여중생의 월경에 대한 조사연구 (A Study of Menstruation of Middle School Students)

  • Purpose: This study was to provide preliminary data for menstrual education and research for the early adolescents. Methods: Participants were 320 middle school students in Gangreung city. Data collection was done from May 1 to May 30, 2004 by self administered questionnaires. Results: In recollecting of menarche experiences, students felt more negative (happy 18.5%, confused 72.6%, embarrassed 82.2%, angry 38.1%, proud 26.2%, excited 15.6%, surprised 54.7%). For menarche preparation, there was a low level of explanations & knowledge of menstruation, and preparedness for menarche. Key informants regarding menstruation experiences were the mother and school teacher. The mean age of menarche was 12.3years old. 66.6% had premenstrual symptoms, and the mean score of VAS for dysmennorrhea was 4.50. Significant variables related to the VAS score were embarrassed of menarche experience(F=3.38, p=.019), preparedness for menarche(F=2.86, p=.038), and premenstrual symptoms(t=63.36, p.000), Conclusion: Preparation for a positive menarche experience prior to menarche is necessary. More active menstrual education should be given for early adolescents in the school and family setting. Replication studies in other regions and developing a menstrual education program is recommended. Systematic examinations of perimenstrual discomforts for early adolescents should be followed.

한부모가정 초기 청소년의 공격성이 자아정체성을 매개로 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향 (Mediating Effect of Self-identity on the Relationship between Aggression and School Life Adaptation of Early Adolescent in Single Parent Families)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to analyze the mediating effect of self-identity on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation of early adolescents. Methods: This study used the 5th-year data of the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) including 159 middle school 2nd students from single-parent families. The data was analyzed with open source statistics program R 3.5.0 to determine whether self-identity had a mediating effect on school life adaptation as an independent variable. Results: A moderate correlation was found among aggression, self-identity, and school life adaptation. As a result of the Sobel test, self-identity of early adolescents demonstrated a significant mediating effect on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation. Conclusions: Given the significant mediating factor of self-identity, the strategies for early adolescents to boost their overall school life adaptation should be considered through intervention programs that help to enhance their self-identity.

시설청소년과 일반청소년의 사회적지지 지각과 공격성간의 관계 (Institutionalized & Home-reared Adolescents' Perception of Social Support and Aggression)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation of social support and aggression of early adolescents. The subject were 220 adolescents aged 11 & 14 years, who were enrolled 11 child welfare facilities or 6 public schools(3 elementary & 3 middle schools) in Seoul. That is, 110 institutionalized(IA) & 110 middle class home-reared adolescent (HA)s were examined. They subjects were asked to complete the questionnaire on social support and aggression. According to the results, 1)IAs perceived less support from peers or adults and showed more aggressive behaviors than HAs. 2)Significant sex difference was observed in aggression. Girls showed lower level of aggression than boys. 3)Adolescents' aggression was significantly correlated with social support. The more support from friends, classmates, and parents HAs perceive, the less aggression they reported. Though support from peers was correlated significantly only with anger expression, support from parents was correlated significantly with all the components of aggression. And the more support from friends and classmates HAs perceive, the less aggression they reported. These findings implicate that social support is a important factor in preventing aggressive behaviors of early adolescents.

가족식사 및 가족기능이 초기 청소년의 학교적응에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Family Mealtime and Family Functioning on Early Adolescents' School Adaptation)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of family mealtime and family functioning (family cohesion, family adaptability, and communication with father and mother) on early adolescent school adaptation. Data of 3,145 middle school students from the Survey on the Family Values and Lives among Adolescents(2010) conducted by National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI) were used. The findings are as follows. First, there were significant differences in the frequency of having breakfast and dinner with father and having breakfast with mother, family cohesion, and communication with father according to gender. Second, hierarchical linear regression analyses revealed that household economic status, mother's employment status and adolescents' gender among demographic characteristics, having breakfast with father and having dinner with mother in family mealtime frequency, and all the variables of family functioning predicted adolescents' school adaptation. Finally, economic status, having dinner with mother, family cohesion, and communication with father and mother were associated with adolescents' school adaptation for both boys and girls. Mother's education and having breakfast with father were found to be significant for only boys, while mother's employment status and family adaptability were found to be significant for only girls. These findings could provide grounds for making family and education policy.

다문화 가정 어머니의 일상생활스트레스 변화 양상에 따른 방임 및 자녀의 학업성취 차이: 성장혼합모형 적용을 중심으로 (Trajectories of Mothers' Daily Life Stress and its Association with Early Adolescents' Perceived Neglecting Attitude and Academic Achievements in Multicultural Families: Growth Mixture Modeling)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 다문화 가정 외국인 어머니의 6년 동안의 일상생활스트레스 변화 양상에 기초한 잠재계층을 찾고, 확인된 잠재계층에 따라 초등학교 4학년부터 중학교 3학년 시기의 방임적 양육태도와 자녀의 학업성취에 차이가 있는지 확인하는 것이다. 다문화청소년패널 1차년도(2011년)부터 6차년도(2016년)의 1,039명 데이터를 사용하였으며, 성장혼합모형분석, 다집단 분석, 일원분산분석을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 성장혼합모형분석을 통해 어머니의 일생 생활스트레스 변화 유형은 '고수준 무변화형 집단', '중수준 변화형 집단', '저수준 변화형 집단'의 세 개 잠재계층이 확인되었다. 둘째, 확인된 잠재계층에 따라 자녀가 지각한 방임적 양육태도 수준은 6개년도 모두 고수준 무변화형 집단이 중수준과 저수준 변화형 집단보다 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 학업성취의 경우 중학교 시기에서만 저수준 변화형 집단이 고수준 무변화형 집단보다 학업성취 수준이 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 잠재계층에 따른 방임적 양육태도의 종단적 변화양상은 통계적으로 유의하지 않았지만, 학업성취의 경우 고수준 무변화형 집단과 중수준 변화형 집단은 학업성취가 매년 감소하는 패턴인 것으로 확인되었으며, 저수준 변화형 집단은 초등학교 시기에는 학업성취 수준의 변화가 없다가, 중학교 시기에 감소하는 패턴이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 다문화 가정 어머니의 일상생활스트레스 변화 양상이 자녀가 지각한 방임적 양육태도 및 학업성취에 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여주며, 다문화 가정의 외국인 어머니가 일상생활스트레스에 적절하게 대처하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 사회적 지원체계 확립이 필요함을 시사한다.

초기 청소년이 지각한 심리적 성장환경이 심리사회적 부적응에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Psychological Environment Perceived by Early Adolescents on their Psychosocial Maladjustment)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of the psychological environment on the psychosocial maladjustment in early adolescence. This study also examined how the psychological environment influenced early adolescents in internalizing and externalizing their problems. Four hundred and eight students from three middle schools in Seoul participated in this study. The participants were divided into two groups by gender, and their psychological environment and psychosocial maladjustment were measured. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and multiple regression. The results of this study are as follows: Mutual intimacy and respect in the psychological environment affected internalizing and externalizing problems among male students; whereas communication affected internalizing and externalizing problems among female students. Based on this analysis, theoretical basics were presented for educational programs to prevent internalizing and externalizing problems.

청소년 초기의 자아존중감과 적응과의 관계 (The Relation between Self-Esteem and Adjustment in Early Adolescence)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and adjustment in early adolescence. The survey data was collected from 497 middle school students who were living at Pusan Korea. The participants completed the multidimensional Self-Esteem Inventory, constructed by the present researchers, the depression scale, and the life-satisfaction scale. The major findings of this study were as follows. The depression of adolescents was affected by the self-esteem related to home, peer, physical-appearance, and personality subdimenions. The importance of and the level of self-esteem about physical-appearance have an interactive effect on adolescents' depression. The life satisfaction of adolescents was affected by the self-esteem related to home, peer, physical-appearance, and academic-general areas.

청소년의 자아존중감과 또래관계의 자기회귀교차지연효과검증 (The Longitudinal Relationship Between Self-Esteem and Peer Relationship in Adolescence: Using Autoregressive Cross-Lagged Modeling)

  • Objective: This study focused on the longitudinal associations between self-esteem and peer relationships in Korean adolescents while considering gender and timing-early and late adolescence-differences. Methods: The study made use of data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Three waves of data collected from 2,351 adolescents were analyzed by means of autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. Results: The results indicated that self-esteem predicted subsequent changes in peer relationship but not vice versa. Further, the results that longitudinal associations between self-esteem and peer relationships differed between male and female adolescents and between early and late adolescence. Conclusion: The findings revaluated the longitudinal relationship between self-esteem and peer relationships. Both gender and timing should be considered when planning interventions related issues about self-esteem and peer relationships in adolescence.

초기 청소년의 사회적 관계, 자아존중감, 삶의 만족, 학교생활적응 간의 관계 분석 (Analysis of the Structural Relationship between Social Relationships, Self Esteem, Life Satisfaction, and School Adjustment in Early Adolescents)

  • The main purpose of this study was to analysis of the structural relationship between early adolescents' social relationships, self esteem, life satisfaction, and school adjustment. Data harvested from the Korean Youth Panel Survey 2010 was analyzed by means of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results indicate that the model is appropriate in terms of goodness of fit and significant path based on the validation procedure. According to the model, the social relationships have some degree of influence upon self esteem which then goes on to have a subsequent effect on life satisfaction; which in turn have a further influence on school adjustment. Social relationships also have a direct influence on life satisfaction, school adjustment, and self esteem has a direct influence on school adjustment. The paper concludes with an outline of the implications of the present study for future studies on this subject.
