Development and Validation of Manned and Unmanned Aircraft Simulation Engine for Integrated Operation in NAS (국가공역에서의 유·무인기 혼합운용을 위한 시뮬레이션엔진 개발 및 검증)

  • Recently, manned and unmanned aerial vehicles are faced with problems such as collision detection and avoidance, link-loss for integrated operations in NAS. Hence, on the basis of the performance data of EUROCONTROL's BADA and NASA, an environment was developed to simultaneously handle simulations of integrated operations of MAVs and UAVs along with ATC/ATM simulations, and dynamic modeling was then carried out. To validate the developed model, simulations were performed on a 6-DOF model by its segments and the results were compared to the RMSE results.

  • Four dimensional(4-D) trajectory modeling is conducted based on flight plan. The flight plan is divided into several segments which represent certain operating flight modes. Thrust, drag and fuel consumption rate of an aircraft are calculated using BADA provided by Eurocontrol. The trajectory is modeled with the rate of climb/descent calculated with Total-Energy Equation. The simulation results with a typical aircraft and its flight plan indicate that the trajectory modeled corresponds well with the suggested flight plan. The performance profiles including total endurance time and time history for speed, thrust, drag and fuel consumption were also appropriately generated.

Estimation of Flight Fuel Consumption Based on Flight Track Data and Its Accuracy Analysis (항적자료를 활용한 항공기 연료 소모량 추정 및 정확도 분석)

  • As global warming becoming an environmentally serious issue, more attention is drawn to fuel consumption which is the direct source of green house gas emission. The fuel consumption by aircraft operation is not an exception. Motivated by the societal and environmental context, this paper explains a method for estimation of aircraft fuel consumed during their flights as well as the computational process using real flight track data. Applying so-called 'Total Energy Model' along with aircraft specific parameters provided in EUROCONTROL's Base of Aircraft Data (BADA) to aircraft radar track data, we estimate fuel consumption of individual aircraft flown between Gimpo and Jeju airports. We then assess the estimation accuracy by comparing the estimated fuel consumption with the actual one collected from an airline. The computational results are quite encouraging in that the method is able to estimate the actual fuel consumption within ${\pm}6{\sim}11%$ of error margin. The limitations and possible enhancements of the method are also discussed.
