  • This article presents computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of nanoparticle movements and flow characteristics in laboratory-scale electrostatic precipitator (ESP) without corona discharge, and for simulation, it uses the commercial CFD program(CFD-ACE) including electrostatic theory and Lagrangian-based equation for nanoparticle movement. For validation of CFD results, a simple cylindrical type of ESP is simulated and numerical prediction shows fairly good agreement with the analytical solution. In particular, the present study investigates the effect of particle diameter, inlet flow rate, and applied electric potential on particle collection efficiency and compares the numerical prediction with the experimental data, showing good agreement. It is found that the particle collection efficiency decreases with increasing inlet flow rate because the particle detention time becomes shorter, whereas it decreases with the increase in nanoparticle diameter and with the decrease of applied electric voltage resulting from smaller terminal electrostatic velocity.

  • As a tool for strain measurement to work with screw driven or hydraulic material test systems, in which mechanical vibration is inherent, SSDG (Speckle Strain/Displacement Gage), ESP (Electronic Speckle Photography) and its 3-dimension version SDSP are evaluated for the theory and practical appliance. Through tension test of steel strips, their validity and shortcomings are examined. As the results, it has been shown that, although SSDG and ESP provide direct measurement of in-plane strain in one direction, they are so sensitive to the out-plane displacement. On the other hand, SDSP which is aided with DIC (Digital Image Correlation) technique to trace the movement of the speckles provides not only in-plane 2-dimensional displacement field, but also out-of-plane displacement simultaneously. However, because the DIC is time-consuming, not automated yet and it needs post-processing to evaluate strain from the displacement field, SDSP appears to be not adequate as a real time sensor.

  • The thrust in this paper is to discuss the dimensions of executive scanning process (ESP) that support continuous scanning activities by executives. Executive scanning is especially important for the healthcare organizations in these days since the environment they are faced with is extremely complex and dynamic. While much has been written about ESP, two important aspects have been underemphasized in the past. The first is a link to the strategic management process (SMP) or the issue of strategy-scanning alignment. The second is a feedback loop to verify the quality of information generated through scanning process. This paper discusses the improved ESP by adding these two features.

  • Two yaw motion control systems that improve a vehicle lateral stability are proposed in this study: a rear wheel steering yaw motion controller (SESP) and an enhanced rear wheel steering yaw motion controller (ESESP). A SESP controls the rear wheels, while an ESESP steers the rear wheels and front outer wheel to allow the yaw rate to track the reference yaw rate. A 15 degree-of-freedom vehicle model, simplified steering system model, and driver model are used to evaluate the proposed SESP and ESESP. A robust anti-lock braking system (ABS) controller is also designed and developed. The performance of the SESP and ESESP are evaluated under various road conditions and driving inputs. They reduce the slip angle when braking and steering inputs are applied simultaneously, thereby increasing the controllability and stability of the vehicle on slippery roads.

NUMERICAL MODELING OF WIRE ELECTROHYDRODYNAMIC FLOW IN A WIRE-PLATE ESP

  • Numerical modeling of the flow velocity fields for the near corona wire electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow was conducted. The steady, two-dimensional momentum equations have been computed for a wire-plate type electrostatic precipitator (ESP). The equations were solved in the conservative finite-difference form on a fine uniform rectilinear grid of sufficient resolution to accurately capture the momentum boundary layers. The numerical procedure for the differential equations was used by SIMPLEST algorithm. The Phoenics (Version 3.5.1) CFD code, coupled with Poisson's electric field, ion transport equations and the momentum equation with electric body force were used for the numerical simulation and the Chen-Kim ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model numerical results that an EHD secondary flow was clearly visible in the downstream regions of the corona wire despite the low Reynolds number for the electrode ($Re_{cw}=12.4$). Secondary flow vortices caused by the EHD increases with increasing discharge current or EHD number, hence pressure drop of ESP increases.

  • This paper describes the fault detection and failsafe logic to be used in an Electronic Stability Program(ESP). The aim of this paper is to prevent of erroneous controls in the ESP. Developed this paper introduces the fault detection logic and evaluation of residual signals. The failsafe logic consists of four redundant sub-models, which can be used for detecting the faults in various sensors (yaw rate, lateral acceleration, steering wheel angle). We present two mathematical residual generation methods : one is a method using the average value and the other is a method using the minimum value of the each residual. We verified a failsafe logic developed using vehicle test results also we compare vehicle model based simulation results with test vehicle results.

  • Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) in air, which has been established for the production of large quantities of ozone, is more recently being applied to a wider range of aftertreatment processes for HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants). Although DBD has high electron density and energy, its potential use as precharging nano and submicron particles are not well known. In this work, we measured I-V characteristics of DBD and estimated collection efficiency of the particles by DBD type 2-stage ESP. To examine the particle collection with various applied voltage waveforms of DBD for nano and submicron sized, bimodal particles were generated by a electrical tube furnace and an atomizer.

  • 본 논문에서는 내부 네트워크를 사용하여 여러 로봇들을 동시에 혹은 각각 제어할 수 있는 시스템을 제안한다. 이 시스템은 모바일, 데스크탑을 통해 원하는 로봇들을 다중 제어하고, 나아가서는 PJ link를 통한 프로젝터 제어, WOL을 통한 데스크탑 제어, 아두이노 레오나르도를 통한 키보드, 마우스 제어 등 여러 통합 컨트롤 시스템을 구축할 수 있다. 와이파이를 통한 시리얼 통신으로 esp8266과 컨트롤 pc 간의 통신이 이루어지고, I2C 통신을 통해 esp8266에서 레오나르도로 신호를 주어 다른 pc를 제어할 수 있다. 로봇의 경우에는 esp8266을 통해 직접적으로 제어가 가능하며 원하는 개수의 로봇을 동시에 혹은 각각 제어할 수 있다. 이러한 통합 컨트롤 시스템을 통해 여러 기기의 로봇을 보다 수월하게 제어가능하며 로봇뿐만 아니라 여러가지 기기들을 한번에, 수월하게 컨트롤 할 수 있게 된다.

고내구성 하전 및 집진 방식 전기집진기의 미세입자 제거 특성 (Evaluation of Fine-Particle Removal Performance of Novel ESP with Highly Durable Chargers and Collectors)

  • 반도체 공정에서 배출되는 미세입자를 포집하기 위하여 전기집진장치가 적용되고 있으나, 배출가스 내 포함된 강부식성 오염원에 의한 전기집진장치 내부 오염 및 부식 문제가 심각하여, 이를 해결하기 위한 방안이 절실하다. 본 연구에서는 탄소섬유로 이루어진 하전부와 PET 필름 사이에 금속 박막이 삽입된 집진부로 이루어진 내부식 전기집진장치를 개발하여, 하전부 및 집진부 인가전압, 처리유량, 하전부 채널 수 등의 운전 조건에 따른 전기집진기의 초미세입자 집진 성능을 평가하였다. 평균입경이 100 nm인 KCl 입자를 시험입자로 사용하였으며, 전기집진기 전/후단 입자 농도 변화를 측정하기 위하여 SMPS를 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 9채널 하전부와 65 mm 집진부로 구성된 전기집진기의 성능평가 결과, $500\;m^3/hr$ 유량조건에서 하전부 및 집진부에 7 kV와 10 kV를 각각 인가하였을 때, 300 nm입자에 대한 포집효율이 90% 이상으로 높게 나타났다.
