  • The learning speed of the neural networks, the most important factor in applying to real problems, greatly depends on the learning rate of the networks, Three approaches-empirical, deterministic, and stochastic ones-have been proposed to date. We proposed a new learning-rate selection algorithm using an evolutionary programming search scheme. Even though the performance of our method showed better than those of the other methods, it was found that taking much time for selecting evolutionary learning rates made the performance of our method degrade. This was caused by using static intervals (called static windows) in order to update learning rates. Out algorithm with static windows updated the learning rates showed good performance or didn't update the learning rates even though previously updated learning rates shoved bad performance. This paper introduce a window control scheme to avoid such problems. With the window control scheme, our algorithm try to update the learning ra es only when the learning performance is continuously bad during a specified interval. If previously selected learning rates show good performance, new algorithm will not update the learning rates. This diminish the updating time of learning rates greatly. As a result, our algorithm with the window control scheme show better performance than that with static windows. In this paper, we will describe the previous and new algorithm and experimental results.

  • We present a spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy (gE) M86 in the Virgo galaxy cluster. Using the spectra obtained from the Multi-Object Spectroscopy (MOS) mode of Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph (FOCAS) on the Subaru Telescope, we measured the radial velocities of 25 GCs, the metallicities of 16 GCs, and the ages of 8 GCs in M86. The mean velocity and the vocity dispersion of the GCs are < ${\upsilon}_p$ > = -354 ${\pm}$ 80 km/s and ${\sigma}_p$ = 292 ${\pm}$ 32km/s, respectively. The M86 GC system shows some rotation with a large uncertainty and the velocity dispersion of the blue GC system is 60 km/s larger than that of the red GC system. The mean metallicity and age of M86 GCs are <[Fe/H]> = -1.13 ${\pm}$ 0.47 and = 9.7 ${\pm}$ 4.0 Gyr, respectively. We found one GC younger than 5 Gyr. We discuss the spectroscopic results of the M86 GC system in comparison with the GC systems in other gEs.

  • A biochemical genetic study on blood enzyme/protein systems in some breeds/crosses of sheep in Malaysia was carried out using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Blood samples were collected from 435 sheep, representing 8 breeds/crosses. These included 5 wool sheep breeds (Thai Longtail, wiltshire, Suffolk, Dorsimal and cMBLx), 1 hair sheep breed (Barbados Blackbelly) and 2 hybrids between wool sheep and hair sheep (Cameroon ${\times}$ Thai Longtail and Bali Bali ${\times}$ Malin). Twenty loci systems were examined. Of these, ten ($HB{\beta}$, ALB, TF, XP, CAT, DIA1, EsA, GPI, ME and NP) exhibited genetic variation whereas the other ten (AAT, CA, DIA2, ${\alpha}GLO$, ${\alpha}GLU$, LDH, MDH, PEP[leu-gly-gly], 6PGD and SOD) were monomorphic. The allelic frequencies which were obtained in 10 polymorphic markers are assessed and compared with the results obtained by previous workers. The estimations of inbreeding coefficient, intrabreed variation and breed relationships have been critically discussed and are used to reveal some important recommendations.

  • In this paper, in order to fabricate the circularly polarized diversity system which will mitigate multipath fading, 5.8GHz band microstrip array antenna were designed and fabricated. These antenna were designed using Ensemble 6.0 program and the fabricated antenna were vertical and horizontal polarized antenna, left-handed circularly polarized antenna, and right-handed circularly polarized antenna. The designed antenna parameters included S11 and impedance characteristics of fabricated antenna were measured using Network Analyzer(8753ES). From the measurement results, the S11 for each polarization antenna at resonance frequency of 5.8GHz band was showed -38dB, -44dB, and -50dB respectively and it was similar to the simulation result, and also the impedance can be matched at $50{\Omega}$. In order to compare polarization characteristics, broadband measurement was also conducted in this paper.

  • In this study, a full scale 3-axes shake table test for M-bar and T-bar type ceilings commonly used in the country was conducted. Through damage inspection during the test, seismic performance of ceilings according to variables, such as clearance between wall mold and ceiling as well as existence of facilities, was evaluated. A test frame consisted of square hollow section members was used for the shake table test. The experimental method was performed as a fragility test using required response spectrum described in ICC-ES AC156. In the case of architectural nonstructural component that contain ceilings, it mainly is evaluated the performance by post-test visual inspection. For the evaluation of seismic performance of ceilings, this study classified and defined damaged items for targeted ceiling system referring to illustrative damage according to nonstructural performance levels accordance with ASCE 41 and previous studies. And proposed illustrative damage items classification was utilized to compare the degree of the damage according to experimental variables. The experiment results confirmed that differences in boundary conditions due to the clearance at wall mold and the installation of facilities had a significant effect on the seismic performance of the ceiling.

  • This paper proposes an efficient approach for the structural topology optimization of bi-directional functionally graded structures by incorporating popular radial basis functions (RBFs) into an implicit level set (ILS) method. Compared to traditional element density-based methods, a level set (LS) description of material boundaries produces a smoother boundary description of the design. The paper develops RBF implicit modeling with multiquadric (MQ) splines, thin-plate spline (TPS), exponential spline (ES), and Gaussians (GS) to define the ILS function with high accuracy and smoothness. The optimization problem is formulated by considering RBF-based nodal densities as design variables and minimizing the compliance objective function. A LS-RBF optimization method is proposed to transform a Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation (PDE) into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) over the entire design domain using a collocation formulation of the method of lines design variables. The paper presents detailed mathematical expressions for BiDFG beams topology optimization with two different material models: continuum functionally graded (CFG) and mechanical functionally graded (MFG). Several numerical examples are presented to verify the method's efficiency, reliability, and success in accuracy, convergence speed, and insensitivity to initial designs in the topology optimization of two-dimensional (2D) structures. Overall, the paper presents a novel and efficient approach to topology optimization that can handle bi-directional functionally graded structures with complex geometries.

  • Price fluctuation contract is imperative and of paramount essence in the construction industry as it provides adequate relief and cushioning for changes in the prices of input resources during construction. As a result, several methods have been devised to better help in arriving at fair recompense in the event of price chang es. However, stakeholders often appear not to be satisfied with the existing methods of fluctuation evaluation, ostensibly because of the challenges associated with them. The aim of this study was to identify the challenges to usage of building construction cost indices in Ghana. Data was gathered from contractors and quantity surveying firms. The study utilized survey questionnaire approach to elicit responses from the contractors and the consultants. Data gathered was analyzed scientifically, using the Relative Importance Index (RII) to rank the problems associated with the existing methods. The findings revealed the following among others; late release of data; inadequate recovery of costs; and work items of interest not included in the published indices as the main challenges of the existing methods. This study will provide useful lessons for policy makers and practitioners in decision making towards the usage and improvement of available indices.

  • Th~ss tud is to recommend a suggestion to adapt and expand the class 200 Religon for Korean libraries using DDC. The grst art of it investigates the development and general problem of the options in 200 and leads to the conclusion t k t it is somewhat undesirable to use the options in the libraries of the nations m y religions are predominant, as in Korea. The second part of it recommends a su gestion. The major characteristic of it is that it not onl follows the basic systems and order of the DDC but a k suggests the plan that emphasizes the Budhsm andother religions of brea, Ouna, and Japan, for Korean libraries. It contracts the Christianity of 22@280 in oripl DDC lnto only one division 220, and rearran es the divisions 230-270 for the BudNusm and other religions oi the world so that various religons can be inc\ulcorneruded in the divisions. And it also su ests an alternative for the libraries that want to ernphaslzc the Buddhism and other religions of East-Asian anp~orean o r i p .
