Rerformance Evaluation of ER Suspensions Under Field Test (실차 시험을 통한 ER 현가장치의 성능평가)

  • This paper presents performance characteristics of a semi-active suspension featuring continuously variable ER (electro-rheological) dampers. These are evaluated through the field test of a passeng er car. Four ER dampers (two for front and two for rear part) are manufactured and their field-dependent damping properties are experimentally investigated. The damping force responses to step input fields are also identified by employing small size of high voltage amplifiers which are made adaptable to the field test. A skyhook controller considering the vertical, pitch and roll motions is formulated and incorporated with a car to be tested. The field test is then undertaken in order to evaluate both comfortability and steering stability showing bump, dive and squat responses.

  • An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of ER(Electro-Rheological) fluid flow in a horizontal rectangular tube with or without D.C voltage. To determine some characteristics of the ER flow, 2D PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique is employed for velocity measurement. This research found the mean velocity distribution with 0kV/mm, 1.0kV/mm and 1.5kV/mm for Re = 0, 0.62, 1.29 and 2.26. When the strength of the electric field increased, the cluster of ERF are clearly strong along the test tube and the flow rate decreased. In this study, the rheology of ER fluid stagnating or flowing through a dispersion meter will be investigated by PIV method. And then the ER effect, which appears at the ER valves and their appliance will be visualized.

  • This paper describes the properties of Temperature-Viscosity characteristics of hydrous and anhydrous ER fluids containing starch and titanium particle in silicone oil. ER effects arise from electrostatic forces between the starch particles and titanium particles dispersed in the electrically insulating silicone oil induced when electric field is applied. ER fluids under electric field have been found to provide resonable estimates of ER fluid viscosity variation characteristics. Yield shear stress of the ER fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields. The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and bob becomes ground(-). The electric field is applied by high voltage DC power supply. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200/equation omitted/ in 2 minutes.

  • This experiment was performed to study the effect of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) on the expression of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) chaperones in the rat thyrocytes FRTL-5 cells. Although the expressions of ER membrane kinases (ATF6, IRE1 and PERK) were specially enhanced under absence of TSH, no remarkable up- or down regulations of ER chaperones (BiP, CHOP and Calnexin) were detected by TSH. We firstly report here that TSH by dose up-regulated expression of ER membrane kinases in FRTL-5 culture thyrocytes.

  • A hybrid vibration control scheme using ER fluid and PZT patches is proposed. Dynamic characteristics of the beam embedded with the ER fluid can be controled by changing the strength of the electric field applied on the ER fluid, thus provides a mean to avoid the resonance. It was found that active vibration control of the structure embedded with ER fluid failed to suppress the vibration excited with broad band frequency due to the limited change of the dynamic characteristics of the structure. To compensate this limited effect of the control scheme with ER fluid alone, PPF control using PZT patches as sensors and actuators is added to construct a hybrid controller. Experimental results suggests that proposed hybrid controller is effective to suppress the additional resonance vibration that appears when each controller is used alone.

  • This paper presents design.dynamic modeling and control issues of a novel type of an ER valve-cylinder system incorporating with an electro-rheological(ER) fluid. The yield stress of the ER fluid to be employed to the proposed system is evaluated as a function of applied electric fields. The design and manufacturing process of the ER valve which features fast system response and simple mechanism are undertaken on the basis of model parameters. The governing equation for the hydraulic and pneumatic model is constructed by incorporation with the field-dependent Bingham behavior of the ER fluid. An effective neuro controller is proposed to realize an accurate position control.

  • Ethylene was released from leaf and fruit but root of Panax ginseng. Root callus showed higher ethylene release (ER) than fruit ER increased with leaf senesence. Fruit during ripening showed decreasing ER in the order of green stage, early stage of reddening and fully ripened stage. between leaves from the plant with fruits in different stages of ripening showed similar trend of fruit in ER but it was about 10 times higher in leaves than in fruits. Leaves of P. quinquefolius showed about 200 times higher ER than that of P ginseng on 22 July Fruits from the plant treated with ethephon showed higher ER after 109 days. Forty-five day-old seedlings grown with various growth regulators showed a significant decrease of stem length and significant increase of ER only in Uniconazole (0.1 ppm) and H-9 (0.0, 5 ppm) solution.

  • The electro-rheological(ER) fluids for smart hydraulic system are a class of colloidal dispersion which exhibit large reversible Changes in their rheological behavior when they are subjected to external electrical fields. This paper presents experimental results on material properties of an ER fluids subjected to electrical fatigues. As a first step, ER fluid is made of methyl cellulose(MC) choosing 25% of particle weight-concentration. Following the construction of test mechanism for durability estimation, the dynamic yield shear stress and the current density for the ER fluids of MC component are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. In addition, the surface roughness of the employed electrode are evaluated as a function of the number of the electric-field cycles.

  • Erbium doped garnet crystals were grown by Czochralski method. Relationshipes between crystal quality and crystal growth factors such as pulling rate, rotation rate and concentration of active ions and sensitizers were investigated. Optimum pulling and rotation rate for high quality Er:YAG crystal were 1 mm/hr and 20 rpm and for Er,Cr:YSGG crystal 2-4 mm/hr and 10 rpm respectively. The size of the crystals grown was up to 20-30 mm in diameters and 95-135 mm in length. Er:YAG crystal grown under the nitrogen atmosphere was pink and transparent and Er,Cr:YSGG under the 98% {{{{ { N}_{ 2} }}}} and 2% {{{{ { O}_{2 } }}}} was dark green and transparent. Under the polarizing microscopic observations with crossed polar, striations and {211} core facets were detected. Spectroscopic properties for Er,Cr:YSGG laser rods with <111> axis, 80 mm in length and 6.3 mm in diameter for medical laser applications of 2.79 ${\mu}$m wavelength were manufactured and then laser oscillation was achieved.
