Background: Ethyl pyruvate (EP) is a derivative of pyruvate that has recently been identified by both various in vitro and in vivo studies to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of EP on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI). Methods: 5 weeks old, male BALB/c mice were used. ALI was induced by an intratracheal instillation of LPS 0.5mg/Kg/$50{\mu}L$ of saline. The mice were divided into the control, LPS, EP+LPS, and LPS+EP groups. In the control group, balanced salt solution was injected intraperitoneally 30 minutes before or 9 hours after the intratracheal instillation of saline. In the LPS group, a balanced salt solution was also injected intraperitoneally 30 minutes before or 9 hours after instillation the LPS. In the EP+LPS group, 40mg/Kg of EP was injected 30 minutes before LPS instillation. In the LPS+EP group, 40mg/Kg of EP was injected 9 hours after LPS instillation. The TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 concentrations in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and that of NF-$\kappa$B in the lung tissue were measured in the control, LPS and EP+LPS groups at 6 hours after instillation of saline or LPS, and the ALI score and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were measured in all four groups 24 and 48 hours after LPS instillation, respectively. Results: The TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower in the EP+LPS group than in the LPS group (p<0.05). The changes in the concentration of these inflammatory cytokines were strongly correlated with that of NF-$\kappa$B (p<0.01). The ALI scores were significantly lower in the EP+LPS and LPS+EP groups compared with the LPS group (p<0.05). In the EP+LPS group, the MPO activity was significantly lower than the LPS group (p=0.019). Conclusion: EP, either administered before or after LPS instillation, has protective effects against the pathogenesis of LPS-induced ALI. EP has potential theurapeutic effects on LPS-induced ALI.

Gas flow uniformity is an important factor to guarantee particle removal performance of electrostatic precipitators (EP), and the gas flow uniformity is evaluated by a fraction of standard deviation to the mean of gas flow distribution (%RMS) or a technical standard, ICAC EP-7, provided by The Institute of Clean Air Companies. In this study, relationship between the ICAC EP-7 and %RMS in evaluation of gas flow uniformity was investigated in terms of flow velocity. The maximum values of %RMS for gas velocity distribution of normal distribution has been obtained, and the maximum values of %RMS with gas velocity distribution satisfying ICAC EP-7 standards were also evaluated. With gas flow distribution obtained from CFD analysis and physical model test of real EP, %RMS values were calculated and it was tested if those gas flow distribution satisfy the criteria specified in ICAC EP-7. The %RMS values satisfying criteria of ICAC have been appeared to have similar values with %RMS values calculated with normal distribution of gas velocities.
The polyclonal antibody was generated against the peptide fragment of 62 amino acid residues (D 181-T242) near the COOH-terminal region of the extracellular domain of epithelial-cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) and shown to be able to recognize Ep-CAM in competitive ELISA. Then, sulforhodamine 101 acid chloride (so called Texas red), a fluorescence dye, was conjugated to the affinity-purified anti-Ep-CAM antibody utilizing the reaction between the aliphatic amines of antibody and the sulfonyl chloride of Texas red. The molar ratio of Texas red to antibody was estimated to be approximately 1.86 by measuring optical densities at 280 nm and 596 nm, implying that the two molecules of Texas red at most were conjugated to antibody. The anti-Ep-CAM antibody-Texas red conjugate was then used for immunohistochemistry of CT-26 murine colon carcinoma cells. Based upon the fluorescence microscope images, anti-Ep-CAM antibody is able to deliver Texas red specifically to the surface of CT-26 cells on which Ep-CAM was actively expressed. This result indicates that anti-Ep-CAM antibody could be useful for the tissue-specific delivery of photosensitizers via antigen-antibody interaction.

To study the effects of substances in paeonia seeds (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) on lipid metabolism, crude methanol extract and secondary ether-soluble fraction out of defatted methanol extract and trans-resveratrol were prepared from the seeds and added to 0.5% (w/w) cholesterol diets for rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 120$\pm$11 g were divided into six experimental groups: control group with no extra supplement, 0.1% (MP1) and 0.2% methanol extract (MP2) supplemented groups, 0.05% (EP1) and 0.1% ether-soluble fraction (EP2) supplemented groups and 0.02% resveratrol supplemented group. Experimental diets were fed ad libitum to the rats for 3 weeks. Body weight gains and food efficiencies were not different among the six experimental groups. Relative liver weights were lower in EP2 group compared to those in control group, but serum GOT and GPT levels of paeonia seed groups including trans-resveratrol group were not different from those of the control group. Serum total cholesterol levels reduced in EP2 and resveratrol groups but HDL-/total cholesterol ratios significantly increased in the four paeonia groups except EP1 group compared with the control group and serum triglyceride level lowered only in EP2 group than that of the control. However, liver cholesterol levels lowered in the five paeonia groups but triglyceride level lowered in MP2, EP1, EP2 groups than that of the control group. Fecal cholesterol excretion significantly increased in MP2, EP1, and EP2 groups than that of the control group, but bile acid excretions were not changed except that a reduction in EP2 group. These results suggest that paeonia seeds contain substances improving serum lipid status mostly via HDL pathway and resveratrol as monomer is one of the effective components but others including resveratrol oligmer are involved in the lipid improving effect.
Purpose : To clarify the clinical findings, laboratory findings and disease course of EP complicated with CAPD and to find out possible predisposing factors to EP. Methods : The medical records of 34 children who underwent CAPD at our hospital between Jan. '94 and Dec. '96 were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical features and laboratory findings of EP were analyzed, and several parameters were evaluated as predisposing factors of EP. Results : EP developed in 7(21%) out of 34 patients. The major symptom of EP was turbid peritoneal fluid without fever, abdominal pain or disturbance of drainage in all cases. The microbiologic culture studies of the peritoneal fluid resulted negative in all cases. Patients with peripheral blood eosinophilia before insertion of CAPD catheter had higher risk of EP than those without eosinophilia (P=0.002). And peripheral blood eosinophilia, noted after insertion of hemodialysis catheter in cases with previous hemodialysis before CAPD, showed significant correlation with the occurrence of EP (P=0.016), too. However, there was no significant correlation between peripheral blood eosinophilia noted after insertion of CAPD cathter and the occurrence of EP. Identification of eosinophils in peritoneal fluids was more accurate with cytospin analysis. Conclusions : An early and accurate diagnosis of EP in patients with CAPD can prevent unnecessary treatment of antibiotics. Peripheral blood eosinophilia before insertion of CAPD catheter is one of the predisposing factors of EP. And, cytospin analysis of peritoneal fluid is an accurate method for diagnosis of EP.

This study was conducted to evaluate extruded pellets(EP) for the growth of sub-adult flounder Paralichthys olivaceus by comparing with raw fish-based moist pellet(MP). Two replicate groups of 150 fish per each tank(initial mean weight $594{\pm}6.5g$) were fed one of two EPs(EP1 and EP2) and a MP for 32 weeks. Survival was not significantly affected by experimental diets. Final mean weight of fish fed the EP1 was not significantly different from that of fish fed the MP, but that of fish fed EP2 was significantly lower than that of fish fed EP1 and MP (P<0.05). Feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio of fish fed the EP1 and EP2 were significantly higher than those of fish fed MP(P<0.05). Daily feed intake of fish fed the EPs was significantly lower than that of fish fed MP(P<0.05). Condition factor was not significantly different among all groups. The contents of moisture, crude protein and lipid in dorsal muscle were significantly affected by experimental diets(P<0.05). Based on the results of this study, the dietary formulations used in EP1 and EP2 could be applied in the practical extruded pellet feeds for sub-adult flounder(594-1,126 g).
Purpose - In align with the increasing competition in both online and offline franchise markets caused by the increasing impact of social networking service, entrepreneurial passion(EP) of the franchise owners has crucial impact on the stakeholders. This study proposed the customer among stakeholders has the critical influence firm's success and examined the structural relationship between entrepreneurial passion(EP) and trust, identification, and loyalty from the customer's perspective. Research design, data, and methodology - This study examines the structural relationship between entrepreneurial passion(EP), trust, identification, and loyalty from the customer's perspective. More specifically, the EP were measured using three sub-dimensions such as EP-inventing(Perceived passion for inventing), EP-founding(Perceived passion for foundting), and EP-developing(Perceived passion for developing). In order to verify the research purposes, research model and hypotheses were developed. All constructs were measured with multiple items developed and tested in the previous studies. Each item was measured on a 7 point Likert-scale anchored by '1 = strongly disagree, 7 = strongly agree'. The data were collected from 449 franchise consumers through online survey and were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and Smart PLS 3.0. statistical program. Result - The results of this study are as follows. First, EP-inventing and EP-developing have significant impacts on corporate trust. Second, EP-founding does not have significant impact on corporate trust. Third, EP-inventing and EP-founding have significant impacts on consumer identification. Fourth, EP-developing does not have impact on identification directly, but does indirectly through corporate trust as a mediator. Fifth, corporate trust and identification have significant impacts on loyalty. Conclusions - This indicates that the foodservice franchise CEOs should continuously develop new menus and service to fulfill customer needs. EP-inventing of the food franchise CEOs may enhance customer trust for higher quality of product or service, and EP-developing can also be a driving force for customer trust as it embeds belief in customers that the franchise is sustainably developing. Also, food franchise CEOs should first clarify the support process for the existing brands before developing new ones. Customers tend to lead the trend by using brands that satisfy new trends in the foodservice franchise market, and it could have identification with the trend-setting franchise. Customers do not accept if a company is different from their personal image or norms. So the franchise CEOs must create identification with customers by building corporate trust. Corporate trust influences consumer behavior and emotion, thus the franchises need to secure trust by improving product or service continuously.

This study was conducted to evaluate of improving extruded pellet (EP) for growth of juvenile flounder by comparing with raw fish-based moist pellet (MP) diet. Two replicate groups of 80 fish per each tank (initial weight of $36.0{\pm}1.2 g$) were fed one of the three EPs (EP1, EP2 and CEP) and (MP for 16 weeks. Survival was not significantly affected by experimental diets (P>0.05). Weight gain of fish fed the MP was not significantly different from that of fish fed the EP1 & EP2 (P>0.05), but that of fish fed CEP was significantly lower than that of fish fed MP (P<0.05). Specific growth rate of fish fed the CEP was significantly lower than those of fish fed EP1, EP2 and MP (P<0.05). Feed efficiency of fish fed the EP1 was significantly higher than those of fish fed CEP and MP (P<0.05), but not significantly different from those of fish fed EP2 (P>0.05). The Contents of crude protein and crude lipid in whole body were significantly different among all groups (P<0.05). Therefore, these results strongly suggest that EP1 & EP2 diets could be developed to replace MP diet for flounder without adverse effects on growth performance.

Since wireless sensor networks are broadly used in various areas, there have been a number of protocols developed to satisfy specific constraints of each application. The most important and common requirements regardless of application types are to provide a long network lifetime and small end-to-end delay. In this paper, we propose Early Preamble MAC (EP-MAC) with improved energy conservation and low latency. It is based on CMAC but adopts a new preamble type called 'early preamble'. In EP-MAC, a transmitting node can find quickly when a next receiving node wakes up, so EP-MAC enables direct data forwarding in the next phase. From numerical analysis, we show that EP-MAC improves energy consumption and latency greatly compared to CMAC. We also implemented EP-MAC with NS-2, and through extensive simulation, we confirmed that EP-MAC outperforms CMAC.
Estimation of the evoked potential using the iterated bispectrum and cross-correlation (IBC) has been tried for both simulation and real clinical data. Conventional time average (TA) method suffers from synchronization error when the latency time of the evoked potential is random, which results in poor SNR distortion in the estimation of EP waveform. Instead of EP signal average in time domain, bispectrum is used which is insensitive to time delay. The EP signal is recovered by the inverse transform of the Fourier amplitude and phase obtained from the bispectrum. The distribution of the latency time is calculated using cross-correlation between EP signal estimated by the bispectrum and the acquired signal. For the simulation. EEG noise was added to the known EP signal and the EP signal was estimated by both the conventional technique and bispectrum technique. The proposed bispectrum technique estimates EP signal more accurately than the conventional technique with respect to the maximum amplitude of a signal, full width at half maximum(FWHM). signal-to-noise-ratio, and the position of maximum peak. When applied to the real visual evoked potential(VEP) signal. bispectrum technique was able to estimate EP signal more distinctively. The distribution of the latency time may play an important role in medical diagonosis.
