  • The use of a robotic transplanter reduces the labor requirement in the greenhouse by carrying out repetitive tasks in an accurate and reliable manner. The transplanter manipulates seedlings by means of end-effector. The end-effector is designed differently from an industrial robot because it manulates biological seedlings of variable size, shape, position, and orientation. This study was conducted to develop an end-effector of a robotic transplanter for bedding plants. The development of an end-effector included selection of the best finger type for the transplanting operation. The performance of developed end-effector was tested and compared with two different transplanting schemes depending on the leaf-orientation consideration. The end-effector developed in this research reliably handled seedlings during transplanting task. Results showed that the shovel type finger was suitable for transplanting with the damaging seedlings.

  • This paper brings out a novel method for reducing Near end and Far end Crosstalk using Electromagnetic Band Gap structures (EBG) in High Speed RF transmission lines. This work becomes useful in high speed closely spaced Printed Circuit Board (PCB) traces connected to multi core processors. By using this method, reduction of −40dB in Near-End Crosstalk (NEXT) and −60 dB in Far End Crosstalk (FEXT) is achieved. The results are validated through experimental measurements. Time domain analysis is performed to validate the signal integrity property of coupled transmission lines.

  • Since the guaranteed service quality(QoS) is spotlighted as a strategic competitive tool to Broadband Convergence Network(BcN) service providers, many scholars have dealt with QoS issues in the BcN environment. However, just a few researchers focus on end-users and most are lean toward service providers or technology itself. In this paper, therefore, we investigated how end-users could measure service quality in the BcN environment, and moreover, proposed the end-user oriented measurement guideline for BcN QoS. Through literature review and two surveys, four QoS dimensions and nineteen measurement items were derived from end-user's perspective. proposed QoS dimension and items would be utilized as meaningful tools for future BcN service.

  • The vortex tube is a simple device for separating a compressed gaseous fluid stream into two flows of high and low temperature without any chemical reactions. Recently, vortex tube is widely used to local cooler of industrial equipments and air supply system. The phenomena of energy separation through the vortex tube was investigated experimentally. This study is focused on the effect of the diameter of cold end orifice diameter on the energy separation. The experiment was carried out with various cold end orifice diameter ratio from 0.22 to 0.78 for different input pressure and cold air flow ratio. The experimental results were indicated that there are an optimum diameter of cold end orifice for the best cooling performance. The maximum cold air temperature difference was appeared when the diameter ratio of the cold end orifice was 0.5. The maximum cooling capacity was obtained when the diameter ratio of the cold end orifice was 0.6 and cold air flow ratio was 0.7.

  • The extraction of 'end-pixels' (i.e. end-members) aims to quantify the abundance of different materials in a single pixel, which becomes popular in the subpixel analysis for hyperspectral dataset. In this paper, we present a new concept called 'End-Pixel of Features (EPF)' to extends the concept of end-pixels for multispectral data and even panchromatic data. The algorithm combines the advantages of previous simplex and clustering methods to search the EPFs in the feature space and reduce the effects of noise. Some experimental results show that, the proposed methodology can be successfully used to hyperspectral data and other remote sensing data.

  • The detent force by end-effect has an undesired influence on moving coil type Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM). So, the reduction of detent force by end-effect is especially required for the improvement of thrust characteristics. In this paper, in order to reduce detent force by end-effect, the auxiliary-teeth is installed at the end part of mover. It is also analyzed by Finite Element Analysis(FEA) and optimized by using neural network. By comparison, the detent force is reduced about 41.4[%] comparing to that of basic model.

  • Recently Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motors(PMLSMs) are widely used for many linear transportation applications. The PMLSM has many advantages such as simple structure, high speed and thrust. However, especially in short primary type PMLSM, there exists very large detent force, which makes the thrust force ripple, undesired vibration and noise. The detent force is composed of the Cogging force and the End force. The Cogging force comes from the interaction between the permanent magnets and interior teeth of the stator. And the End force acts on the exterior teeth of the stator by the permanent magnets. Usually End force is larger than Cogging force, so the detent force is drasically reduced only by reducing the End force. This paper shows the End force is minimized by optimizing the stator length and chamfering the shape of the exterior teeth of the stator.

  • To achieve secure communication in current ZigBee networks, encrypted messages using security keys need to be shared among devices. A link key shared by two devices is used for unicast communications, where the master key is the starting point for establishing a link key. The ZigBee protocol has some limitations in end-to-end key establishment, which are discussed and an improved end-to-end key establishment scheme is presented.

  • The endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a newly recognized, fundamental biological process involved in development and tissue regeneration, as well as pathological processes such as the complications of diabetes, fibrosis and pulmonary arterial hypertension. The EndMT process is tightly controlled by diverse signaling networks, similar to the epithelial to mesenchymal transition. Accumulating evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) are key regulators of this network, with the capacity to target multiple messenger RNAs involved in the EndMT process as well as in the regulation of disease progression. Thus, it is highly important to understand the molecular basis of miRNA control of EndMT. This review highlights the current fund of knowledge regarding the known links between miRNAs and the EndMT process, with a focus on the mechanism that regulates associated signaling pathways and discusses the potential for the EndMT as a therapeutic target to treat many diseases.

  • In end milling process the underformed chip thickness and the cutting force components very periodically with phase change of the tool. In this study, up end milling process is transformed to the equivalent oblique cutting. The varying underformed chip thickness and the cutting force components in end milling process are replaced with the equivalent average ones. Then it can be possible to analyze the chip-tool friction and shear process in the shear plane of the end milling process by the equivalent oblique cutting mode. According to this analysis, when cutting Inconel 718.61% of the total energy is consumed in the shear process and the balance is consumed in the friction process.
