  • In this paper EMI problems with induction motor drive system using multi-level inverters are investigated. The high power multi-level inverter usually operates with low switching frequency and produces large noises. Generally, EMI consists of the conduction component through source lines and emission component emitted to the space. This conduction component can be classified to the common-mode between source line and ground, and the normal-mode between lines. The EMI filters for the induction motor drive system are designed and implemented to reduce EMI noise. Finally the designed system is verified by the experiment. The experimental results show that both the normal mode and common mode noises are greatly reduced compared to the system without filters.

  • High speed train system generates much EMI (electromagnetic interference) by arc between the pantograph and the trolley line during the running time. EMI from the tilted EMU train system which is similar to HEMU-400X system for 400 km/h speed and with the distributed engines was measured following EN50121-2, 'Railway applications. - Electromagnetic compatibility (Emission of the whole railway system to the outside world)'. Measured EMI values exceed the limiting values of EN50121-2 in high frequency band ($30\;MHz{\sim}1,000\;MHz$), but exceeding frequencies were identified that they are used for mobile communications. Measured EMI values did not exceed the limiting values in other low frequency band between 9 kHz and 30 MHz.

  • This paper analyzes the noise sources of an LED lighting module with TRIAC dimming control and proposes an improved EMI filter design for the reduction of conducted noise emission. TRIAC dimming invokes problems of input oscillation and capacitor overvoltage at the lighting module. The proposed double LC filter reduces high noise level from the circuit. The experimental and simulation results show that this approach can make significant contributions to the reduction of conducted noise emission from an LED lighting module with TRIAC dimming control.

  • In this paper, we deal with EMI Analysis on Microstrip with Defected Ground plane. Specially, we investigate reflection, transmission, crosstalk, radiated emission on Microstrip with Defected Ground plane structure. And investigates undesired effects on various defected ground plane such as ground with split, slot, short end and open end gap. To analyze reflection, transmission and crosstalk of microstrip with defected ground plane, we used concept of the microstrip to slot line transition model.   • According to revolutionary developments in automobile technologies, eco-friendly advanced vehicles (hybrid vehicle, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.) are rapidly increasing. The electromagnetic compatibility is getting more important for development of a vehicle because those advanced vehicles are driven by electric energy and equipped with more electric systems. In general, electromagnetic compatibility tests consist of an electromagnetic interference(EMI) test and an electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS) test. EMI test of the electric vehicles are needed not only in driving mode but also in charging mode because they must be recharged by much electric energy for driving. Depending on vehicle manufacturers, the charging device type and the location of charging device inlet in electric vehicles are various. In this paper, in order to investigate EMI of electric vehicles in charging mode in consideration of the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet, a series of electromagnetic emission tests are conducted using three electric vehicles (neighborhood electric vehicle, electric vehicle and electric vehicle-bus). The test results show that electromagnetic emission measurements in charging mode are dependent on the direction of measuring antenna and the location of charging device inlet.

SMPS 구동 대형교통 신호용 LED 신호등의 특성 (Characteristics of LED Signal Lamp Driving by SMPS for Large-scale Traffic Signal)

  • 본 연구에서는 공항, 철도, 항만 등 대형 교통수단의 표시등으로 사용하기 위하여 SMPS에 의하여 구동되는 LED 신호등을 설계하고 제작된 LED 신호등의 전기적 특성과 EMI 특성을 조사하였다. 10V 이상의 교류 및 직류입력전압에 대한 출력전류는 1.67A이었다. 0.15~30MHz에서 측정한 잡음단자전압은 허용기준 준첨두치와 허용기준 평균치 보다 낮았으며, 30~1000MHz에서 측정한 잡음전계강도는 59.96MHz에서 $23.96dB{\mu}V/m$이었다.

Analysis of revised regulatory guidance on electromagnetic interference qualification for nuclear safety

  • In this paper, we analyzed the revised guidance on electromagnetic (EM) interference qualification of Regulatory Guide 1.180 (Revision 2), which is published by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for electromagnetic compatibility qualification for nuclear safety, by comparing it with that of the previous version. We confirmed that the test methods and the acceptance criteria of both CE101 and CE102 tests for conductive emission and RE102 test for radiating emission are changed in the recently revised Regulatory Guide 1.180 (Revision 2). Furthermore, we found that the revised Regulatory Guide 1.180 provides flexibility in the use of alternative methods for EM interference (EMI) qualification, in that a mix of the various base-standards is technically allowed. In addition, the primary revision of the updated Regulatory. Guide 1.180 is that MIL-STD-461G is to be adopted as the latest base-standard, instead of MIL-STD-461E. To evaluate the influence on EMI qualification for nuclear safety due to the endorsement of MIL-STD-461G, we thoroughly analyzed the modifications in the acceptance criteria and test methods for EMI qualification, and then validated the analyzed effect on the EMI qualification, which is caused by the revision of MIL-STD-461, by performing electromagnetic simulation for equipment under RE102 test.

전원용 광대역, 고성능 EMI 필터 개발에 관한 연구 (Power-Line EMI Filter for Broad-Band)

  • 이 논문은 군 쉘터(shelter)내부의 전자기기용 전원부에 사용되는 고성능 전원용 광대역 EMI 필터를 제안하였다. 주파수 10 kHz~l GHz의 광대역에서 감쇠량 100 dB를 구현할 수 있는 최적의 EMI 필터를 구현하기 위해 먼저 시뮬레이션을 통해 각 소자의 용량에 대한 특성을 분석하였으며, 이를 기초로 실제 제작을 통해 실험적으로 노이즈 제거 성능을 증명하였다. 이 결과는 군용 쉘터뿐만 아니라 다른 첨단 무기들에 대한 전자파 대응 방호기술의 개발에 도움을 줄 것이다.

EMI 개선을 위해 자동차용 전력변환기에 적용된 주파수 확산 기법 분석 (An Investigation of EMI Reduction Technique using the Spread Spectrum for an Automotive Power Converter)

  • 본 연구에서는 전기 자동차용 DC/DC converter 회로의 전도성/복사성 방사 분석 결과를 제시하고 있다. 일반적으로 사용되는 MPQ4433 칩을 이용한 전력 변환회로의 EMI 특성을 개선하기 위해 주파수 확산 회로를 적용하였다. TLV3201칩을 사용한 주파수 확산 회로가 설계되어 전력변환 회로에 적용되었다. EMI 시뮬레이션을 통해 최적의 PCB 제작되었으며, 제작된 회로를 이용하여 원거리 방사, 근거리 전도 및 복사 방출에 대한 시뮬레이션과 측정 결과가 제시되었다. 전도 및 방사 방출은 CISPR 25의 표준화 된 시험 절차에 따라 측정되었으며 주파수 확산이 적용된 경우에 EMI 특성이 약 20% 개선되는 결과를 얻었다. 본 연구에서 제안 된 주파수 확산을 이용한 EMI 저감 기술은 자동차용 전력 컨버터 모듈의 설계에 처음 적용되었으며 향후 EMI 개선에 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

  • Investigating electromagnetic emissions of inverter power sources for resistance welding existing special aspects of EMI measurements in the field of resistance welding machines resulting from the power rating and intermittent operation mode of these machines have to be taken into account. The characteristics of the internal switching processes determined by the behavior of the applied power semiconductors, snubber circuits and constructional aspects exert a great influence on the conducted emission of resistance welding inverters.
