Most discussions of single imputation methods and the EM algorithm concern point estimation of population quantities with missing values. A second concern is how to get standard errors of the point estimates obtained from the filled-in data by single imputation methods and EM algorithm. Now we focus on how to estimate standard errors with incorporating the additional uncertainty due to nonresponse. There are some approaches to account for the additional uncertainty. The general two possible approaches are considered. One is the jackknife method of resampling methods. The other is multiple imputation(MI). These two approaches are reviewed and compared through simulation studies.

We present an expectation-maximization algorithm for principal component analysis via orthogonalization. The algorithm finds actual principal components, whereas previously proposed EM algorithms can only find principal subspace. New algorithm is simple and more efficient thant probabilistic PCA specially in noiseless cases. Conventional PCA needs computation of inverse of the covariance matrices, which makes the algorithm prohibitively expensive when the dimensions of data space is large. This EM algorithm is very powerful for high dimensional data when only a few principal components are needed.
Purpose : The objective of this study was to assess ventricular function by tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) who have been undergoing open heart surgery (OHS) using cardiopulmonary bypass. We tried to compare the parameters of tissue Doppler imaging before and after OHS in patients with congenital heart disease. Methods : This study was conducted on 32 patients with CHD after OHS from January 2005 to December 2005 at Kyungpook National University hospital. Patients who underwent 2-D echocardiography before and after their OHS. All patients were divided into three groups, left ventricular volume overloading group (group 1), and right ventricular volume overloading group (group 2), and right ventricular pressure overloading group (group 3). The TDIs were examined before and 1 to 3 months after OHS. Peak early diastolic (E), and peak late diastolic (A) velocity of transmitral flow were measured by pulsed wave Doppler examination. Peak systolic (Sm), peak early diastolic (Em), and peak late diastolic (Am) velocity in apical 4-chamber and 2-chamber views were measured by TDI. The author calculated E/Em ratio. Results : The patients were 14 boys and 18 girls and the average age of patients was 2 years and 3 months. The congenital heart diseases which have to get OHS were ventricular septal defect (13 cases), atrial septal defect (7), atrioventricular septal defect (3), isolated pulmonary stenosis (2) and tetralogy of Fallot (7). There were significant decrease of Sm, Em, Am measured on tricuspid annulus and E/Em measured on mitral annulus in apical 4 chamber view (P<0.05). Conclusion : This study showed significant decrease of Sm, Em, Am measured on tricuspid annulus and E/Em measured on mitral annulus in apical 4 chamber view after OHS. These changes might be due to the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass in OHS and/or hemodynamic changes after correction of congenital heart disease. To clarify these changes, further study on more patients is needed.

This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with the effective microorganism (EM) on the growth performance, blood parameter, small intestinal microflora, and noxious gas emission of broilers. A total 720 1-d old ROSS 308 was randomly assigned to 6 dietary treatment groups: control, virginiamycin (6 mg/kg), 0.1% PB 0.1% EM, 0.5% EM, and 1.0% EM. Each treatment was fed to 4 replicates of 30 birds per diet for d 35. Two-phase feeding program with a starter diet from 0 to 3 wk, and a finisher diet from 4 to 5 wk was used in the experiment. Within each phase, a diet was formulated to meet or exceed NRC requirements of broilers for macro- and micronutrients. The diet and water were available ad libitum. Result indicated that during overall periods of the experiment, final weight, body weight gain, and feed intake were not different among dietary treatments. Feed conversion ratio was less (P<0.05) for EM treatments than control, antibiotics, and PB. Total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TRG), glucose (GLU), total protein (TP), calcium (CA), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were not different among dietary treatments. White blood cell (WBC), hemoglobin (Hb), heterophils (HE), lymphocyte (LY), monocytes (MO), and eosinophils (EO) were not different among dietary treatments. HE:LY was less (P<0.05) for EM0.5 treatments than control, antibiotics, and PB. Lactobacillus was greater (P<0.05) for EM treatments than control and antibiotics. E. coli and Salmonella were not different among dietary treatments. $NH_3$ and $CO_2$ wereless (P<0.05) for EM treatments than control. These results indicated that EM treatments were effective feed conversion ratio, noxious gas emission and micro flora population on the cecum in broilers.

Healthcare-associated infection represents a frequent cause of mortality that increases hospital costs. Due to increasing microbial resistance to antibiotics, it is necessary to search for alternative therapies. Consequently, novel alternatives for the control of resistant microorganisms have been studied. Among them, plant antimicrobial protein presents enormous potential, with flowers being a new source of antimicrobial molecules. In this work, the antimicrobial activity of protein-rich fractions from flower tissues from 18 different species was evaluated against several human pathogenic bacteria. The results showed that protein-rich fractions of 12 species were able to control bacterial development. Due its broad inhibition spectrum and high antibacterial activity, the protein-rich fraction of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis was subjected to DEAE-Sepharose chromatography, yielding a retained fraction and a non-retained fraction. The retained fraction inhibits 29.5% of Klebsiella pneumoniae growth, and the non-retained fraction showed 31.5% of growth inhibition against the same bacteria. The protein profile of the chromatography fractions was analyzed by using SDS-PAGE, revealing the presence of two major protein bands in the retained fraction, of 20 and 15 kDa. The results indicate that medicinal plants have the biotechnological potential to increase knowledge about antimicrobial protein structure and action mechanisms, assisting in the rational design of antimicrobial compounds for the development of new antibiotic drugs.

In this paper, we present a design of a 5th order Chebyshev interdigital band-pass filter using inverter and susceptance slope parameter values obtained from EM simulated multi-port Y-parameters. The shifted length of the resonator is determined when the frequency of the transmission zero is separated far away from the center frequency. For the initial dimensions of the interdigital filter, the filter is decomposed into the individual resonators, and the dimensions are obtained using EM Simulation of the decomposed resonators. However, the interdigital filter with the dimensions determined from the EM simulation of the decomposed resonators shows slightly distorted response from the desired frequency response due to the coupling between non-adjacent resonators. To obtain a EM simulation dataset, EM simulation for this filter is carried out by parameter sweep with constant ratio for the initial values. In this dataset, it is determined the final values for the filter by optimization. The fabricated filter by PCB shows an upper-shift of center frequency of about 70 MHz, which was caused by permittivity changed and tolerance of fabrication.
The purpose of this study was to compare the ventilatory volume and airway pressure using Oxylator EM-100, MicroVenT CSI-3000, OXY-LIFE II. The data were obtained from February 13 in 2017 andanalyzed using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The results of theventilatory volume showed the Oxylator EM-100 551.44 ml (${\pm}18.70$), MicroVenT CSI-3000 527.26 ml (${\pm}17.98$), and OXY-LIFE II 369.46 ml (${\pm}12.30$). The airway pressure showed the Oxylator EM-100 $11.89cmH_2O$ (${\pm}.41$), MicroVenT CSI-3000 $11.66cmH_2O$ (${\pm}.34$), and OXY-LIFE II $8.02cmH_2O$ (${\pm}.25$). This study will provide the basic data for an appropriate ventilation method by an oxygen supply device including Oxylator EM-100, MicroVenT CSI-3000, and OXY-LIFE II.
This paper designs a electromagnetic-log (EM-Log) aided navigation filter for maritime environment without global navigation satellite system (GNSS). When navigation is performed for a long time, Inertial navigation system (INS)'s error gradually diverges. Therefore, an integrated navigation method is used to solve this problem. EM-Log sensor measures the velocity of the vehicle. However, since the measured velocity from EM-Log contains the speed of the sea current, the aided navigation filter is required to estimate the sea current. This paper proposes a single model filter and interacting multiple (IMM) model filter methods to estimate the sea current and analyzes the influence of the sea current model on the filter. The performance of the designed aided navigation filter is verified using a simulation and the improvement rate of the filter compared to the pure navigation is analyzed. The performance of single model filter is improved when the sea current model is correct. However, when the sea current model is incorrect, the performance decreases. On the other hands, IMM model filter methods show the stable performance compared to the single model.

The dry weight of mother plants' leaves had the highest increase rate in both NS (single-use) and NS+EM (mixed-use) mixed with NS 0.8 (customary use). In seafood amino acid fertilizer (SAF) application, the increase rate was highest in SAF solution at a 300-fold dilution. Mother plants' crown diameter, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length and leaf number showed the greatest growth amount when NS 0.8 (customary use) was mixed to NS (single-use) or NS+EM (mixed-use) solution. The growth was highest in SAF solution diluted 300 folds, but lowest in SAF solution diluted 100 folds. Of all inorganic nutrients, excluding sulfur, total amount of nitrogen, available phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium had the highest increase rate in both NS (single-use) and NS+EM (mixed-use) with the treatment of NS 0.8 (customary use). Total nitrogen, in particular, was increased by 3.1% in NS 0.4, 6.0% in NS 0.8, and 4.5% in NS 0.8 with the application of NS+EM at a 500-fold dilution compared to NS alone. Total nitrogen amount showed the highest increase rate in SAF solution diluted 300 folds. Total nitrogen, available phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and EC in soils applied with culture solutions (NS, NS+EM) had increasing tendencies after fertilizer application. The results were comparable to those of SAF treatment. The increase rate of each inorganic nutrient composition declined in soils applied with NS+EM solution diluted 500 folds compared to NS alone.
