DME/천연가스 HCCI 기관의 연소특성(기통 간 불균형과 EGR의 영향) (Combustion Characteristics of HCCI Engine Fueled DME and Natural Gas(Unbalance of Cylinder-to-Cylinder and Effect of EGR))

  • HCCI engines fueled DME and natural gas have been studied on single-cylinder engine due to availability of reducing on $NO_X$ and PM simultaneously without deteriorating into high thermal efficiency, and thus it is clarified that higher maximum engine load is achieved as DME equivalence is smaller. In this study, combustion tests were accomplished on multi-cylinder engine for practical use of it. When minimum DME equivalence achieved maximum engine load on single-cylinder engine was applied to 4-cylinders engine, there was in unstable running condition that engine revolution fluctuated greatly and cyclically. It is the reason what misfire occurred intermittently with one the same as minimum DME equivalence on single-cylinder due to increase in energy for ignition at No. 1 cylinder with lower cylinder liner temperature. Maximum engine load was achieved by adopting EGR, though it decreased because of knocking at smaller engine load than single-cylinder due to increase in minimum DME equivalence.

  • Globally, many researchers have been trying to improve the fuel economy of a vehicle for satisfying future $CO_2$ regulation and minimizing air pollution problem. For the same background, diesel engine and vehicle system optimization using simulation models have been key technologies for the improvement of vehicle system efficiency. Therefore, in this study, calibration method for the air breathing system of a WGT diesel engine using mean value model has been composed for efficient engine and vehicle optimization simulation researches. And virtual WGT performances have been calculated for a 2 cylinder downsized diesel engine system. From these researches, the calibration method for the boost pressure and EGR rate of a virtual diesel engine related with WGT performances could be composed and some of technical issue related with downsized diesel engine could be investigated.

디젤엔진의 질소산화물 저감을 위한 Urea SCR 시스템 특성 분석 (II) (Characterization of SCR System for NOx Reduction of Diesel Engine (II))

  • The Effect of Space Velocity(SV) on NOx conversion rate was performed to develop NOx reduction after-treatment system. SV is calculated from engine exhaust gas volume and SCR catalyst volume. Found the Urea injection duty of maximum efficiency for NOx conversion if increase SV, NOx Conversion rate is down. Especially, when SV is more than $110,000h^{-1}$, NOx conversion rate decrease suddenly. Same case, if SV is lower than $40,000h^{-1}$, NOx conversion rate is down. Also, the characterization of Urea-SCR system was performed. Three candidate injectors for injecting Urea were tested in terms of 속 injection rate and NOx reduction rate. The performances of SCR catalytic converter on temperature were investigated. The performance of Urea-SCR system was estimated in the NEDC test cycle with and without EGR. It was found that nozzle type injector had high NOx conversion rate. SCR catalytic converter had the highest efficiency at the temperature of $350^{\circ}C$. EGR+Urea-SCR system achieved NOx reduction efficiency of 73% through the NEDC test cycle.

  • 최근 환경오염에 대한 경각심이 높아지면서 대기오염의 원인인 자동차 배기가스에 대한 규제가 강화되고 있다. 이에 따라 자동차의 배기가스 규제를 만족하기 위해 각국의 자동차회사와 엔진 메이커에서 관련 기술 개발이 활발히 일어나고 있다. 이러한 자동차의 배기가스를 줄이고자 고안된 것이 배기가스 재순환 시스템이다. 배기가스 규제가 점차 엄격해지면서 보다 신속하고 정밀한 제어를 위하여 전자식 모터나 솔레노이드 밸브를 사용하는 시스템의 사용이 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 이에 따라 배기가스 저감과 시스템의 성능 및 효율 향상을 위한 요소부품의 최적화가 필요할 뿐만 아니라, 요소부품의 설계 및 제작기술 확보를 통한 전자제어식 시스템 최적설계기술개발이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 배기가스 재순환을 위한 전자식 EGR밸브의 위치제어응답성을 적용한 제어로직과 실험결과를 통해서 제시하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents a feedforward control algorithm for the EGR and VGT systems of passenger car diesel engines. The air-to-fuel ratio and boost pressure are selected as control indicators and the positions of EGR valve and VGT vane are used as control inputs of the EGR and VGT controller. In order to compensate the non-linearity and coupled dynamics of the EGR and VGT systems, we have proposed a non-linear model-based feedforward control algorithm which is obtained from static model inversion approach. It is observed that the average modeling errors of the feedforward algorithm is about 2% using stationary engine experiment data of 225 operating conditions. Using a feedback controller including proportional-integral, the modeling error is compensated. Furthermore, it is validated that the proposed feedforward algorithm generates physically acceptable trajectories of the actuator and successfully tracks the desired values through engine experiments.

  • Three-dimensional finite-element methods(FEM) have been used to analyze the thermal stress of an exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) cooler due to thermal and pressure load. Since efficiency and capability of the heat exchanger are mainly dependent on net heat transferring area of the EGR cooler system, the tube inside the system has a numerous dimples on the surface. Thus for finite element analysis, firstly the dimple-typed tube is modeled as a plain element without the dimple, and then the equivalent thermal conductivities and elastic modulus are calculated. This work describes the numerical homogenization procedure of the dimple-typed tube and verifies the equivalent material properties by comparison of a single unit and the actual full model. Finally, the homogenization scheme presented in this study can be efficiently applied to finite element analyses for the thermal stress and deformation behavior of the EGR cooler system with the dimple-typed tube.

  • In order to satisfy stringent future emission regulation in diesel engines, systematic approaches to mitigate the harmful exhaust emissions were developed, such as engine hardware, fuel injection equipment, engine control, and after-treatment system. In this study, to improve the nano-particle and NOx emissions from a state-of-the-arts diesel engine, effect of various EGR and fuel injection pressure with combustion analysis were evaluated. Size-resolved nano-particle and NOx emissions showed trade-off characteristics with various EGR rate and increment of fuel injection pressure.

  • This paper presents a neural network approach to control exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) in a Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) engine. In order to meet Increasingly stringent automotive exhaust emission regulations, alternative fuels such as LPG engines have been developed in many countries. HC&CO emissions of LPG engines can be easily reduced through air-fuel ratio control, but the control effect on NOx reduction is not good enough.   • The effects of cooled-ECR on the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions were investigated in a single cylinder HCCI diesel engine The premixed charge (gasoline or diesel) was obtained with premixing chamber and high-pressure (5.5MPa) injection system. Exhaust pressure control and cooled ECR system were used in order to reduce pressure fluctuation and to mix the exhaust gas well with the fresh intake air. The experimental results show that NOx emissions from conventional diesel engine are steeply decreased by HCCI diesel combustion with cooled-EGR in both case of gasoline and diesel premixing. But soot emissions are rapidly increased with the increase of ECR rate. The recycled exhaust gas increased the ignition delay of mixture and decreased maximum combustion pressure. HC and CO emissions of HCCI combustion are increased with ECR rate.

가솔린 엔진 배출가스 제어장치에 대한 고장사례 고찰 (Study of Failure Examples for Emission Gas Control System in Gasoline Engine)

  • 이 논문의 목적은 승용자동차의 배출가스 제어장치에 대한 고장사례 연구이다. 첫 번째 사례의 원인은 퍼지 컨트럴 솔레노이드밸브(PCSV)가 일정한 동작조건에서 열리지 말아야 하나, 오작동 되어 열림으로써 서지탱크로 증발가스가 유입되어 이것이 연료량이 농후한 것으로 측정되었다. 이 결과 엔진의 ECU(Electronic control uint)에서 연료의 분사량을 줄임으로써 공회전시 엔진의 부조화 현상이 발생된 것으로 확인되었다. 두 번째 사례에서는, EGR 밸브를 작동하는 호스가 다른 곳으로 조립되어 진공압력이 공급되지 않았다. 이로 인해 EGR 밸브가 작동되지 않고 다른 곳에서 진공이 누설됨으로써 엔진이 부조화 현상이 발생된 것으로 확인되었다. 세 번째 사례는 두개의 센서 가운데 뒤쪽(Rear side) 산소센서가 다른 자동차의 산소센서로 오장착됨으로 인해 산소량을 감지하지 못해 감속시 급격하게 속도가 줄어든 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서, 배출가스 제어 장치에 관련된 시스템은 최적의 상태로 작동되어 배출가스를 저감하는 역할을 할 수 있도록 철저한 관리가 요구된다.
