  • In the present paper, the optimal selection of batteries for an electric pump-fed hybrid rocket engine is analyzed. A two-stage Mars Ascent Vehicle, suitable for the Mars Sample Return Mission, is considered as test case. A single engine is employed in the second stage, whereas the first stage uses a cluster of two engines. The initial mass of the launcher is equal to 500 kg and the same hybrid rocket engine is considered for both stages. Ragone plot-based correlations are embedded in the optimization process in order to chose the optimal values of specific energy and specific power, which minimize the battery mass ad hoc for the optimized engine design and ascent trajectory. Results show that a payload close to 100 kg is achievable considering the current commercial battery technology.

  • The effects of the ecdysteroid agonist tebufenozide on the larvae of Chironomus flaviplumus and Chironomus riparius were tested in the laboratory. Employing a static exposure setup, chironomids were subjected to various tebufenozide concentrations. In the most treatments it reach-ed a statistically significant difference from the control condition. As the concentration of tebufenozide was increased, a relatively larger proportion of the observed mortality was associated with the metamorphosis and molting process. The larval mortality of C. riparius was high in C. flaviplumus during over 30 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ treatments. In terms of development, the effects of tebufenozide were delayed growth stage in relatively lower concentration such as 10 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ tebufenozide treatments. The rates of succeed adult through the molting process were various in treated concentrations or/and the species.

  • HIP diffusion bonding of Ni-based superalloys, cast Mar-M247 (MM247) and Udimet 720 (U720) powder, was experimentally and numerically studied. Subsolvus HIP treatment was optimized by investigating the variations of high temperature tensile properties of HIP-bonded specimens with powder size, HIP'ing time, etc. While the tensile strength at high temperatures showed no detectable changes, the tensile elongation and reduction in area were slightly increased as the powder size decreased from -140 mesh to -270 mesh. While as-HIP'ed U720 showed a high tensile strength comparable to that of lorded U720 alloy, the HIP diffusion-bonded specimen showed a strength lower than the forged U720 alloy and the cast MM247 alloy The increase of HIP'ing tune from 2 hours to 3 hours resulted in a rapid risc of tensile strength and elongation due to the disappearence of microvoids in the cast MM247. FEM simulation for HIP process was conducted by applying the McMeeking micromechanical model, which uses power-law creep model as constitutive equations. ABAQUS user subroutine CREEP with an implemented microscopic model was used for the simulation. Numerical simulation was shown to be essential for the near-net shape manufacturing as well as the HIP process optimization.

  • This paper describes the machining characteristics of the sintered carbide and die steel(STD-11) by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. Electrical discharge machining(EDM) removes material from the workpiece by a series of electrical sparks that cause localized temperatures high enough to melt or vapourize the vicinity of the charge. In the experiment. four types of electrode which have different diameter are used with the application of continuous direct current and axial electrode feed. The controlled factors include the dimension of the electrode. In drilling by EDM, the dielectric flushed down the interior of the rotating tube electrode, in order to order to facilitate the removal of machining debris the hole. The expansion increase with increasing the thickness of material and the diameter of electrode and the expansion of sintered carbide is 1.75 times large then that of die steel. The taper of machined hole decrease with increasing the thickness of material. The crater sixe of die steel is larger then thet of sintered carbide and the surface roughness of sintered carbide is 1.58 tims larger then that of die steel.

  • The formation degree of sustain (ITO pattern) decides quality of PDP (plasma display panel). For this reason. it makes efforts in search defects more than 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Now, the existing inspection process is dependent upon naked eye or SEM equipment in off-line PDP manufacturing process. In this study developed prototype inspection system of PDP ITO glass. This system creates information that detects and sorts kind of defect automatically. Design ed inspection technology adopts line-scan method by slip-beam formation for the minimum of inspection time and image processing algorithm is embodied in detection ability of developed system. Designed algorithm had to make good use of kernel matrix which draws up an approach to geometry. A characteristic of area-shaped defects, as pin hole, substance, protrusion et al, are extracted from blob analysis method. Defects, as open, short, spots, et al, are distinguished by line type inspection algorithm. In experiment results, we could have ensured ability of inspection that can be detected with reliability of up to 95% in about 60 seconds

  • This paper proposes a novel of a personalized Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) system based on learner's cognitive abilities related to foreign language proficiency. In this CALL system, a strategy of retrieval learning, a method of learning memory cycle, and a method of repeated learning are applied for effective vocabulary memorization. The system is designed to offer personalized learning based on cognitive abilities related to the human language process. For this, the proposed CALL system has a cognitive diagnosis module which can measure five types of cognitive abilities. The results of this diagnosis are used to create dynamic learning scenarios for personalized learning and to evaluate user performance in the learning. This system is also designed in order to have users be able to create learning word lists and to share them simply with various functions based on open APIs. Additionally, through experiments, it has shown that this system helps students to learn English vocabulary effectively and enhances their foreign language skills.

  • Purpose: Alcohol intoxication is frequently observed in patients with brain hemorrhage. The purpose of this study was to determine whether intoxication affects the Korean Triage and Acuity Stage (KTAS) level and the emergency medical process in emergency departments. Methods: This study was a retrospective observational study enrolled 253 brain hemorrhage patients (47 of those intoxicated) who visited the emergency medical center on public EMS ambulance from January. 1, 2017 to April, 30, 2019. Data were collected through the electronic medical record (EMR). KTAS level and time to computerized tomography (CT) were compared to evaluate whether inebriation affects care and examination processes. All data were analyzed using SPSS program. Results: Of the 47 patients intoxicated patients, 85.1% were male, and 74.5% accompanied by trauma. Initial KTAS level showed significant differences (77.2%; p=.000) when the level 3,4 was not drunk. The average time taken from triage to CT scans showed a significant difference of 24.81±23.72 (min) when the drunken state was not 58.38±56.54 (min)(p=.000). Conclusion: In patients with brain hemorrhage admitted to ED from public EMS, undertriage and delay after initial assessment were detected in inebriated patients. Careful initial evaluation and prompt medical response should be considered for patients transported by EMS.

  • BMP-2 is a well-known TGF-beta related growth factor, having a significant role in bone and cartilage formation. It has been employed to promote bone formation in some clinical trials, and to differentiate mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts. However, it is difficult to obtain this protein in its soluble and active form. hBMP-2 is expressed as an inclusion body in the bacterial system. To continuously supply hBMP-2 for research, we optimized the refolding of recombinant hBMP-2 expressed in E. coli, and established an efficient method by using detergent and alkali. Using a heparin column, the recombinant hBMP-2 was purified with the correct refolding. Although combinatorial refolding remarkably enhanced the solubility of the inclusion body, a higher yield of active dimer form of hBMP-2 was obtained from one-step refolding with detergent. The refolded recombinant hBMP-2 induced alkaline phosphatase activity in mouse myoblasts, at $ED_{50}$ of 300-480ng/ml. Furthermore, the expressions of osteogenic markers were upregulated in hPDLSCs and hDPSCs. Therefore, using the process described in this study, the refolded hBMP-2 might be cost-effectively useful for various differentiation experiments in a laboratory.

  • Eagle's syndrome is the manifestation of elongated styloid process that is not a common entity in dental clinics. Without the knowledge of this syndrome misdiagnosis can be made and therefore differential diag-nosis with other diseases of oral and maxillofacial area is required. The symptoms of elongated styloid process are cervical pain, foreign body sensation, dysphagia and pharyngeal pain. A 27 years old male vis-ited our hospital. He had cervical pain with unilateral facial nerve palsy. Along with meticulous clinical examinations, 3D-CT, Plain radiographic studies were used to make the diagnosis. In computed tomogra-phy, Lt. styloid process was elongated and fractured. Patient have undergone surgical resection of elongat-ed styloid process and have been carefully observed. Characteristically, preoperative facial nerve palsy showed rapid postoperative recovery. The other clinical symptoms that were present in the initial visit were diminished. The purpose of this article is to report a case of Eagle's syndrome presenting unilateral facial nerve palsy that was treated with transoral surgical approach with literature review.

  • Electrodialysis (ED) is known to be a useful membrane process for desalination, concentration, separation, and purification in many fields. In this process, it is desirable to work at high current density in order to achieve fast desalination with the lowest possible effective membrane area. In practice, however, operating currents are restricted by the occurrence of concentration polarization phenomena. Many studies showed the occurrence of a limiting current density (LCD). The limiting current density in the electrodialysis process is an important parameter which determines the electrical resistance and the current utilization. Therefore, its reliable determination is required for designing an efficient electrodialysis plant. The purpose of this study is the development of a predictive model of the limiting current density in an electrodialysis process using response surface methodology (RSM). A two-factor central composite design (CCD) of RSM was used to analyze the effect of operation conditions (the initial salt concentration (C) and the linear flow velocity of solution to be treated (u)) on the limiting current density and to establish a regression model. All experiments were carried out on synthetic brackish water solutions using a laboratory scale electrodialysis cell. The limiting current density for each experiment was determined using the Cowan-Brown method. A suitable regression model for predicting LCD within the ranges of variables used was developed based on experimental results. The proposed mathematical quadratic model was simple. Its quality was evaluated by regression analysis and by the Analysis Of Variance, popularly known as the ANOVA.
