Effect of Dietary Vitamin E on Growth Performance and Immune Response of Breeder Chickens

  • The effect of dietary vitamin E supplementation on immune responses was studied in breeder chickens during the maturing period. In experiment 1, 17-week old female birds were fed corn-soybean meal based diets supplemented with either 0, 40, 80, 120, or 160 mg vitamin E (all-rac-${\alpha}$-tocopherol acetate)/kg diet for 19 weeks. In experiment 2, 23-week old male birds were fed the corn-soybean meal based diet supplemented with either 0, 20, 40, 80 or 160 mg vitamin E/kg diet for 8 weeks. The chickens were evaluated for growth performance, antibody titer to sheep red blood cell (SRBC), Newcastle disease virus (NDV), infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), and skin response to phytohemagglutinin-P (PHA-P). The results showed that supplemental vitamin E improved body weigh gain of laying pullets during peak-laying period but had no significant effect on growth performance of cockerels. For cockerels, addition of 20 mg vitamin E/kg diet significantly enhanced (p<0.05) immune response to SRBC compared to those added with 0, 80 and 160 mg vitamin E/kg diet; addition of 20 mg vitamin E/kg diet had higher (p<0.01) antibody titer to IBDV than those added with 40-160 mg vitamin E/kg diet. No significant effects on immune response were observed in laying pullets fed supplemental vitamin E. The findings suggest that moderate supplementation of vitamin E may enhance immune responses to selective antigens in cockerels but excessive vitamin E may depress specific immune response.

핸드스프링 몸접어 앞공중돌기동작의 운동학적 분석 (The Kinematic Analysis of Handspring Salto Forward Piked)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the phase-by-phase elapsed time, the COG, the body joint angle changes and the angular velocities of each phase of Handspring Salto Forward Piked performed by 4 college gymnasts through 3D movement analysis program. 1. The average elapsed time for each phase was .13sec for Phase 1, .18sec for Phase 2, .4sec for Phase 3, and .3sec for Phase 5. The elapsed time for Phase 1 to Phase 3 handspring was .35sec on average and the elapsed time for Phase 4 to Phase 5 handspring salto forward piked was .7sec on average. And so it showed that the whole elapsed time was 1.44sec. 2. The average horizontal changes of COG were 93.2 cm at E1, 138. 5 cm at E2, 215.7 cm at E3, 369.2 cm at E4, 450.7 cm at E5, and 553.1 cm at E6. The average vertical changes of COG were 83.1 cm at E1, 71.3 cm at E2, 78.9 cm at E3, 93.7 cm at E4, 150.8 cm at E5, and 97.2 cm at E6. 3. The average shoulder joint angles at each phase were 131.6 deg at E1, 153.5 deg at E2, 135.4 deg at E3, 113.4 deg at E4, 39.6 deg at E5, and 67.5 deg at E6. And the average hip joint angles at each phase were 82.2 deg at E1, 60 deg at E2, 101.9 deg at E3, 161.2 deg at E4, 97.7 deg at E5, and 167 deg at E6. 4. The average shoulder joint angular velocities at each phase were 130.9deg/s E1, 73.1 deg/s at E2, -133.9 deg/s at E3, -194.4 deg/s at E4, 29.4 deg/s at E5, and -50.1 deg/s at E6. And the average hip joint angular velocities at each phase were -154.7 deg/s E1, -96.5 deg/s at E2, 495.9 deg/s at E3, 281.5 deg/s at E4, 90.3 deg/s at E5, and 181.7 deg/s at E6. The results shows that, as for the performance of handspring salto forward piked, it is important to move in short time and horizontally from the hop step to the point to place the hands on the floor and jump, and to stretch the hip joints as much as possible after the displacement of the hands and to keep the hip joints stretched and high in the vertical position at the takeoff. And it is also important to bend the shoulder joints and the hip joints fast and spin as much as possible after the takeoff, and to decrease the speed of spinning by bending he shoulder joints and the hip joints quickly after the highest point of COG and make a stable landing.

Seismic performance of RC bridge piers reinforced with varying yield strength steel

  • This paper experimentally investigates the effect of yield strength of reinforcing bars and stirrups on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) circular piers. Reversed cyclic loading tests of nine-large scale specimens with longitudinal and transverse reinforcement of different yield strengths (varying between HRB335, HRB500E and HRB600 rebars) were conducted. The test parameters include the yield strength and amount of longitudinal and transverse reinforcement. The results indicate that the adoption of high-strength steel (HSS) reinforcement HRB500E and HRB600 (to replace HRB335) as longitudinal bars without reducing the steel area (i.e., equal volume replacement) is found to increase the moment resistance (as expected) and the total deformation capacity while reducing the residual displacement, ductility and energy dissipation capacity to some extent. Higher strength stirrups enhance the ductility and energy dissipation capacity of RC bridge piers. While the product of steel yield strength and reinforcement ratio ($f_y{\rho}_s$) is kept constant (i.e., equal strength replacement), the piers with higher yield strength longitudinal bars are found to achieve as good seismic performance as when lower strength bars are used. When higher yield strength transverse reinforcement is to be used to maintain equal strength, reducing bar diameter is found to be a better approach than increasing the tie spacing.

  • 최근 e-러닝은 급속히 확산되고 있는 추세이며 이에 따른 이슈 중 하나가 e-러닝 사이트에 대한 서비스품질 즉, 제공하는 사이트의 서비스품질이 사용자들에게 얼마만큼의 학습성과를 통한 만족을 가져다 줄 수 있는 지에 관한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 e-러닝의 사업 분류 중 일반인과 학생을 교육대상으로 하는 B2C e-러닝 사이트의 서비스품절 결정요인을 구성하고 개인성과를 매개로 사용자만족과 재이용의향에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지를 실증분석 하였다. 이러한 연구목적에 따른 결과를 토대로 e-러닝의 실질적인 활성화를 위해 우선적으로 고려해야 할 사항들과 전략적 시사점을 제시하였다.

Determination and comparison of growth performance parameters between two crossbred strains of Korean native chickens with a white semi broiler chicken for 84 days post-hatch

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the growth performance between two different crossbred strains of Korean native chickens denoted as 1E and 2E with a white semibroiler (LL) from hatch to d-84 post-hatch. A total of 450 one-day-old chicks were randomly distributed into cages which included 15 replicate cages each for 1E and 2E with 9 replicate cages for LL. A three phase feeding program was used as a starter (Day 1 - 35; crude protein [CP] 20.3%; metabolizable energy [ME] 3,059 kcal·kg-1), grower (Day 36 - 56; CP 18.6%; ME 3,123 kcal·kg-1) and finisher (Day 57 - 84; CP 16.7%; ME 3,187 kcal·kg-1). The results revealed that LL had a higher (p < 0.05) BW during d-8 to d-84 compared with the other two cross breed groups. A higher (p < 0.05) ADG was observed from the LL during the entire period except from d-1 to d-14 and d-71 to d-84 when compared with 1E and 2E. Shank length did not vary (p > 0.05) between the strains, despite LL having a SL that was 2.86% higher (p < 0.05) when compared with the other strains from d-15 to d-21 post-hatch, and 1E had a SL that was 2.28% (p < 0.05) higher when compared with the other strains during the first week of the experiment.

The Effect of Real-Time Individual Process Performance Feedback on Computer-based Group Idea Generation

  • In computer-mediated idea generation where contributions can be anonymous, the ability to accurately monitor performances is limited, inducing social loafing. Prior research has suggested that social loafing is likely an important factor in reducing task performance. Researchers have theorized that loafing could be minimized if clear performance feedback is provided. Our prior study evidences a substantial performance gain by the provision of real time performance information about who is contributing and who is not. However, our prior study incorporated the quantity feedback only to create a larger pool of ideas based on the long-standing assumption (i.e., quantity breeds quality), not considering the quality feedback. As a result, taking advantage of anonymity in the form of pseudonymity, individuals in almost all groups exhibited a tendency of self-presentation by capitalizing on ideas of which quality was low and even frivolous (i.e., junk comments) toward the later stages of the session. Thus, we have learned that the quantity performance feedback alone does not have enough restrictiveness to consistently control the performance behavior throughout the session. Since a process chart allows participants to monitor process variation by comparing new performance data to past performance data, we incorporated real-time visual process performance feedback to reveal performance histories by connecting the sequence of idea quality scores in a time-series format. Using this environment, a laboratory experiment was conducted with five-member groups that examined the influence of both identifiability (i.e., anonymity versus pseudonymity) and process performance feedback (i.e., yes or no) in a $2{\times}2$ factorial design. The result showed that groups in the process performance feedback treatment outperformed groups in the no feedback treatment. Additionally, process performance feedback and identifiability interacted such that groups in the process performance feedback/pseudonymity treatment had the highest performance. The implications of these findings for future research, as well as the implications for the design of group idea generation procedures are discussed.

헤어 살롱의 이러닝 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구 (Factors Influencing Performance of e-Learning in Hair Salons)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 헤어살롱 서비스업에서의 이러닝 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인을 실증적으로 규명하고자 한다. 특히 이러닝 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인을 학습자 특성별로 파악하고, 이러한 영향요인은 이러닝 학습자의 만족도에 영향을 미치고, 나아가 경영성과에까지 영향이 미치는지 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 결과는 아래와 같다. 이러닝 학습 환경과 이러닝 만족의 관계에서의 가설 검증 결과, 이러닝 컨텐츠 품질수준이 높을수록 이러닝 만족도가 높아지고, 이러닝 지원 인프라 품질수준이 높을수록 이러닝 만족도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 학습자 요인의 조절 효과에 대한 가설 검정의 결과를 보면, 학습자 목표의식 수준에 따라 지원 인프라 품질의 이러닝 만족에 대한 영향력이 다르게 나타났다. 하지만 학습자 목표의식 수준에 따라 컨텐츠 품질의 이러닝 만족도에 대한 영향력, 학습태도의 적극성에 따라 컨텐츠 품질의 이러닝 만족도에 대한 영향력 그리고 학습태도의 적극성에 따라 지원 인프라 품질의 이러닝 만족도에 대한 영향력은 조절효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 학습 성과 간의 관계에 대한 가설 검정 결과를 살펴보면, 이러닝 만족도가 높을수록 고객지향성이 높아지고, 이러닝 만족도가 높을수록 경영성과 기여도가 높아지며, 고객지향성이 높을수록 경영성과 기여도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실제 경과 경로를 규명하였다. 헤어살롱 서비스업 운영과 관련된 조직의 의사결정자에게 성공적인 교육시스템 도입 및 확장을 위한 실무지침을 제공하였다. 둘째, 이론적 배경에서 도출된 학습환경과 학습자들이 요구하는 학습 환경은 다르다.

멀티 플라즈마 반응기를 이용한 E. coli 소독 (E. coli Disinfection Using a Multi Plasma Reactor)

  • Objectives: For the practical application of the dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor, a plasma reactor able to manage large volumes of water is needed. This study investigated the possibility of the practical application of a multi-plasma reactor which is a scaled-up version of a single plasma reactor. Methods: The multi-plasma reactor consists of several high-voltage transformers and plasma modules (discharge, ground electrodes and quartz dielectric tubes). The effects of water characteristics such as voltage (30-120 V), air flow rate (1-5 l/min), number of high-voltage transformers and plasma modules, and water quality on Escherichia coli (E. coli) disinfection and decrease of COD and $UV_{254}$ absorbance were investigated. Results: The experimental results showed that at a voltage of over 80 V, most of the E. coli were disinfected within 90 seconds. E. coli inactivation was not affected by the air flow rate. E. coli disinfection in the multiplasma process showed the traditional log-linear form of the disinfection curve. E. coli inactivation performance by transformer 3-Reactor 5 and transformer 3-Reactor 3 were similar. The disinfection performance of the UV process was affected by artificial sewage water. However, the plasma process was less affected by the artificial sewage within the standards for effluent water quality. Conclusions: Disinfection performance with several low voltages and plasma modules of three to five in number applied to the plasma process was higher than that concentrating a small amount of high voltage through a single plasma reactor. Removal of COD, $UV_{254}$ absorbance, and E. coli disinfection with the plasma process were better than with the UV process.

유기태 셀레늄과 Vitamin E의 복합 급여가 육계의 생산성, 계육 품질 및 Selenium 축적에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Organic Selenium and Vitamin E on Growth Performance, Selenium Retention and Quality of Meat in Broiler Chickens)

  • 비타민 E 150 IU, selenium yeast로 셀레늄 1.2 ppm에 비타민 E를 100, 150, 200 및 300 IU로 복합 첨가하였을 때 육계의 사료 섭취량, 증체량, 사료 요구율, 계육 품질 및 selenium 축적에 미치는 영향을 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. $1{\sim}21$일의 증체량은 대조구와 비타민 E 150 IU 첨가구가 높았으며(P<0.05), 사료 섭취량은 비타민 E 150 IU 첨가구가 유기태 셀레늄 1.2 ppm에 비타민 E 150 IU와 200 IU를 복합 첨가한 구에 비하여 증가하였다(P<0.05). $21{\sim}35$일의 사료 섭취량은 대조구가 유기태 셀레늄 1.2 ppm에 비타민 E 200 IU를 복합 첨가한 구에 비하여 증가하였다(P<0.05). 그러나 시험 전기간의 사료 요구율은 대조구를 포함한 모든 처리구에서 차이가 없었다. 2. 가슴 근육의 셀레늄 함량은 대조구와 비타민 E 150 IU 첨가구에 비하여 유기태 셀레늄과 비타민 E를 복합 첨가함으로서 유의적으로 높게 나타났으며(P<0.05), 간조직의 셀레늄 함량 역시 대조구와 비타민 E 150 IU 첨가구에 비하여 유기태 셀레늄과 비타민 E를 복합 첨가함으로서 높게 나타났다(P<0.05). 3. 저장 기간별로 TBARS는 대조구와 비타민 E 150 IU 첨가구는 1일보다 3일차가 높게 나타났으나(P<0.05), 셀레늄 1.2 ppm에 비타민 E 100, 150, 200 및 300 IU 복합 첨가구는 1일과 3일간에서 차이가 없었으며, 3일차에는 대조구보다 비타민 E와 셀레늄 복합 첨가구가 낮게 나타났다(P<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합하면, 육계 사료에 유기태 셀레늄 1.2 ppm에 비타민 E를 100, 150, 200 및 300 IU를 복합 첨가시 생산성에는 차이가 없으나 계육 내 selenium 함량과 저장성은 향상되었다.

인터넷 쇼핑몰의 eSCM 실행요인과 성과에 관한 연구 -패션상품 공급업체를 중심으로- (A Study on the Factor and Performance of e-Supply Chain Management for Internet Fashion Shopping Malls)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the implementation and the performance of the eSCM in internet shopping malls, and to suggest collaborated strategy for internet shopping malls. We performed the surveys of suppliers for 3 fashion-specialized internet shopping malls and 3 general internet shopping mall. Additional surveys was performed by surveying the shopping mall merchandisers to research the differences of understandings on the performance of the eSCM between shopping malls and their suppliers. Total 143 questionnaries were distributed and collected from January 23 to February 28, 2006 and analyzed by SPSS 10.0. The results are as follows; 1) the efficiency of eSCM is related the factors of partnership and information, and among the subordinated factors the understanding and support of the top management, good communications, product and operating information sharing were find out to be significant. 2) The effectiveness of eSCM is influenced by the organizational and partnership factor. As the subordinated factors, the understanding and supports of the top management, the participations of members, good communications, good relationship and supports, and the technology level of eSCM were identified as significant. 3) Examining the differences of understandings on the performance of eSCM between the suppliers and the shopping mall merchandisers, the suppliers and the merchandisers show different opinions on the operating efficiency, and the customer service.
