  • Objectives : Two related cases of Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome (HUS) were reported to the Korea National Institute of Health in May, 2001. Shiga toxin 2 genes were detected in both stool samples. We suspected an enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) infection as the cause of the HUS, and conducted an investigation to find the source of the infection and its route of transmission. Methods : We peformed case investigations on these two related HUS cases, and obtained interviews and rectal swabs form the family members and other close contacts. Additionally, we peformed rectal swabs on the cattle raised by the household of the index patient. Results : We found a 20 month old index patient and a 6 year-old cousin had developed HUS, where there had been a 2 day history of contact with the index, and bacteriological examinations for these two patients revealed, indistinguishably, the same E. coli O171. The grandmother of the index patient was found to be asymptomatic, but E. coli O26 was isolated. We also found a probable case in the mother of the cousin. She reported a history of contact with the index, and developed bloody diarrhea of 3 days duration. The test results for the cattle revealed E. coli O26 in one cow, and E. coli O26 and O55 in another. E. coli O26, which was isolated in both cows and the grandmother of the index, were indistinguishably the same. Conclusions : We found that the E. coli O26 in the grandmother had originated from the cows, and that the E. coli O171 found in the index patient had been transmitted to the cousin through person-to-person contact.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the contents of the e-book and detail the properties of e-book experience. was written by Anthony E. Zuiker who is famous for American TV series C.S.I. is a thriller and is published for the iPad. This e-book provides three levels of interaction within the book. Zuiker calls this e-book a "Digi-Novel". The readers can choose the level of interaction:novel, digi-novel or ultimate digi-novel. The basic background story is the same. So we can compare the difference of reading experience of three levels. Digi-Novel are differentiated from other e-books through their complex characters. Consequently a well-throughout detailed background story is very important for Digi-Novels. In addition, it enrich the reading experience through the interactive elements and multimedia functions of iPad. Readers can interact with clues, manipulate evidence and listen to audio sounds. This serves to immerse the readers much more deeply in the reading experience and makes readers feel like they are a part of story.

  • We show that the recurrence rates of Laurent series about continued fractions almost surely coincide with their pointwise dimensions of the Haar measure. Moreover, let $E_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ be the set of points with lower and upper recurrence rates ${\alpha},{\beta}$, ($0{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}{\infty}$), we prove that all the sets $E_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$, are of full Hausdorff dimension. Then the recurrence sets $E_{{\alpha},{\beta}}$ have constant multifractal spectra.

  • In Experiment 1, 4- and 5-year-olds were shown either continuous(i.e., pizza) or discontinuous Stimuli(i.e., biscuit) by the experimenter. After a proportion(e.g., 2/8, 4/8, or 6/8) was removed, children were asked to remove an equivalent proportion. Whereas 4-year-olds proportional reasoning was correct only when they shared the same stimulus with the experimenter, 5-year-olds reasoned correctly regardless whether or not they shared the stimulus with the experimenter. In Experiment 2, where the discontinuous stimulus was changed, 4-year-olds also made correct proportional reasoning even when their stimulus was different from the experimenter's. Contrary to other studies, quantity didn't affect children's proportional reasoning except the proportion 1/4, where problems with discontinuous quantity were solved more successfully than problems with continuous quantity.

  • Let Cl(A) denote the class group of an arbitrary integral domain A introduced by Bouvier in 1982. Then Cl(A) is the ideal class (resp., divisor class) group of A if A is a Dedekind or a Prüfer (resp., Krull) domain. Let G be an abelian group. In this paper, we show that there is a ring of Krull type D such that Cl(D) = G but D is not a Krull domain. We then use this ring to construct a Prüfer ring of Krull type E such that Cl(E) = G but E is not a Dedekind domain. This is a generalization of Claborn's result that every abelian group is the ideal class group of a Dedekind domain.

  • The main purpose of this study is to define antecedents that influence e-SCM synchronization and to investigate how it affects e-SCM performance. We, therefore, investigate (1) the impact of firms' internal IT planning capabilities on e-SCM synchronization and on SCM process management capability, (2) the impact of firms' internal IT infrastructure on e-SCM synchronization and on SCM process management capability, (3) the impact of firms' internal SCM process management capabilities on e-SCM synchronization, and finally (4) the impact of e-SCM synchronization on SCM performance. A survey has been administrated to the firms' SCM and marketing staffs and 171 returns analyzed. The results show that (1) IT plan has not direct impacts on e-SCM synchronization, but has direct impacts on organizational support, purchasing, and operations processes except logistics process. IT plan, however, has indirect impacts on e-SCM synchronization through purchasing and operations of SCM process management capability. (2) IT infrastructure has both direct and indirect effects on e-SCM synchronization, and also has direct impacts on organizational support, purchasing, and operations processes except logistics process. (3) SCM process management capabilities have direct impacts on e-SCM synchronization. Among these SCM core processes purchasing positively influences operations, which in turn positively influences logistics process management capability. (4) e-SCM synchronization has positive impacts on SCM performance indicator (SCOR), such as delivery reliability, responsiveness & flexibility, and cost. These results indicate that e-SCM synchronization can be critical to achieve better internal performance like cost and external performance like delivery reliability, responsiveness & flexibility of firms' SCM. In sum, this study demonstrates that the intervening role of e-SCM synchronization between e-SCM performance and IT management capability and between e-SCM performance and SCM core process management capability has been significant in achieving better e-SCM performance. Therefore, it can be suggested that e-SCM performance should be accomplished in consequence of the acceleration of e-SCM synchronization through the enhancement of preceding factors for the e-SCM synchronization.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the effects of genotypes, environments and interaction of G$\times$E on yields of sesame grown in seven different environments by AMMI analysis. Environments accounted for the largest (91 %) proportion of the sums of squares, followed by G$\times$E (8%) and genotypes (1%) Therefore, G$\times$E effects are theoretically eight times as important as G effects. G2 (Yanghukkae) has the largest IPCAI scores indicating higher G$\times$E interaction. G3 (Suwon 171) was near zero score of IPCAI suggesting higher stability than others in yield component. Most of environments except for Iksan area shows different G$\times$E effects by years, which means Iksan is optimal area for multi-environmental adaptation evaluation in sesame breeding programs. According to this experiment, it is concluded that maximization of grain yield through environments can be achieved by specific genotypes in specific environments.

  • The cyber classes of an e-Learning system have been considered as one of the important form of education. However, there is no or little study of effectiveness and function for the students' position. In this study, I analyzed log files in the e-learning system, and classified login and teaming hour patterns of students, who were enrolled in the undergraduate courses of the university, into hourly pattern in a daily pattern in a week, weekly pattern in a semester. I proposed general ideas to improve effectiveness and function of current e-learning. Over 50% of logins were for less than 30minutes learning and there is wasteful use of e-learning system resources.

  • Despite of decrease in shear and moment strengths, most steel structural designers use web openings in beams because of economical benefit and requirement. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of reinforcement of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening. If shear predominates over bending, it is necessary to consider all possible combinations of shear force and bending moment acting at the opening. In this paper, the ultimate strength and behavior of perforated beams have been investigated according to parameters (ratio of M/V, opening width within opening height ratio D/h, various reinforcing types A/B/C/D/M/N/W). The results of this study are as follows ; 1. Deformation of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening was greatly affected by not only bending but also shear. 2. SB1-2/3 series have little difference in the reinforced efficiency, but SB1-2E/3E series have difference in the reinforced efficiency according to the reinforcement type. 3. Efficiency of SB1-2E/3E series is determined by reinforcing types, which RB1-2E-B/M/C and RB1-3E-M/D/C specimens have good efficient. Reinforcing type of perforated beams chooses efficient method according to ratio of M/V and D/h.

  • The evolution of transaction-based business model is upon us. The business models of many e-Marketplace in their early stages have typically been based on transaction fees. Many e-Marketplaces have even called out transaction revenues as a core element of their business plans. The transaction business represents the most simple of business models, but it does not provide a long-term sustain able advantage. For buyer's convenience, wide selection and test price hold appeal. For suppliers, the extended global market reach and direct access to customers and consortiums of customers is powerful. To maxmize leverage of these new e-marketplace, you must from both a buyer perspective as well as a supplier perspective. Also required is a strategy that takes in account all of the various e-Marketplace transaction standards and one that allows the easy accomodation to new e-marketplace as the market change. These new e-marketplace will need to be factored into the sales channel strategies. To be successful, integration with these e-marketplaces should occur at a complete business process level. This study explored independent and industry-backed current and future business models that are emerging in the B2B electronic market industry, as well as value -added service models for the Net market maker industry. E-Marketplaces will evolve into digital work environments in which real industry collaboration can occur.
