  • An in-plane motion measurement method using $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns by linear-gratings and cross-gratings, which can be used as micro inertial sensors, micro actuators, and micromachined scanning microscopes is demonstrated. A simple digital image processing method that calculates and analyzes the motion of microstructure from $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns was developed. And using several grating structures fabricated by surface micromachining, we formed $moir{\acute{e}}$ patterns and analyzed the motion of microstructure.

  • In this paper, we give an algorithm to construct a space curve in Euclidean 3-space ${\mathbb{E}}^3$ from a plane curve which is called PDP-helix of order d. The notion of the PDP-helices is a generalization of a general helix and a slant helix in ${\mathbb{E}}^3$. It is naturally shown that the PDP-helix of order 1 and order 2 are the same as the general helix and the slant helix, respectively. We give a characterization of the PDP-helix of order d. Moreover, we study some geometric properties of that of order 3.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of club head and golf ball kinematics and body alignment according to the swing plane during golf driver swing. Method: Sixteen college golfers participated in this study. Kinematic data of the club head and golf ball were collected using golf swing analysis system (Trackman Ver. 3e). The body alignment variables were collected using 8 motion capture system. An Independent samples t-test was used for comparison between the Out-to-In group and In-to-Out group, and the statistical significance level was set at .05. Results: For the club head related variables, club path and club face angle showed higher values in Out-to-In swing plane than In-to-Out swing plane. For the kinematic variables of the golf ball, the total distance showed a higher value in the In-to-Out swing plane than that of the Out-to-In swing plane. For the body alignment, the In-to-Out swing plane showed higher values than the Out-to-In swing plane for the pelvis rotation angle and trunk rotation angle. Conclusion: This study suggest that it would be more effective to use the In-to-Out swing plane for increasing the total distance during the golf driver swing.

  • The longitudinal and lateral in-plane vibrations of an axially moving membrane are investigated when the membrane has translating acceleration. By extended Hamilton's principle, the governing equations are derived. The equations of motion for the in-plane vibrations are linear and coupled. These equations are discretized by using the Galerkin approximation method after they are transformed into the variational equations, j.e., the weak forms so that the admissible functions can be used for the bases of the in-plane deflections. With the discretized equations for the in-plane vibrations, the natural frequencies and the time histories of the deflections are obtained.

  • The primary objective of this study was to analyze the hard and soft tissue profile and comparison of the both sexes in Korean adults using roentgenocephalometry. The subjects were 122 males and 116 females from 18 to 22 years of age selected on the basis of their excellent occlusion and harmonious profile. It was an investigation about the interrelationships in the angles which consisted of Frankfort horizontal plane (FH plane), Sella Nasion plane (SN plane), Nasal floor plane (NF plane) and Mandibular plane (Md plane) as reference planes, and of the axial inclinations of the upper anterior tooth to Nasal floor plane (NF Plane) and of the lower anterior tooth to Mandibular plane (Md Plane). Among the 14 categories estabilishied on the soft tissue land marks, the 6 categories were studied for the relationship to Frankfort horizontal plane (FH Plane), and the 8 categories were studied for the soft tissue contour. The results were as follows: 1. Among 8 measured angles in the hard tissue, the angle of FH-Md, NF-Md and SN-Md were greater in females than in males. 2. The axial inclinations of the anterior teeth to NF Plane and Md plane were slightly greater in males than In females. 3. Among 14 measured angles in the soft tissue, the angles of G-Sn-P and E-Pog-Sn were greater in males, and FH-G-Sn, GㆍSn-Sn. Pog and Pog-Sn-P were greater in females. 4. In males, the variability of measured values in both lips region were high.

  • Patch antennas with an array of pins interconnecting the patch and the ground (Pin array patch antennas) are fabricated and their characteristics are measured. The radiation characteristics of pin array patch antennas are compared to those of conventional patch antennas. The suppressions of the radiation in horizontal directions in E-plane and H-plane are more than 10 dB and 4 dB, respectively. The forward radiation is increased, while the backward radiation is decreased. The directivity is improved because the half-power beamwidth of radiation patterns in both E-plane and H-plane is reduced. The resonance frequency of a pin array patch antenna increases as the pin radius of a pin amy patch antenna increases. An optimum pin radius of a pin array patch antenna exists for the maximum suppression of the radiation in horizontal directions.

  • This paper proposes an electronically beam steering array antenna, consisting of single fed active element and 4 parasitic elements, operating in 5.8 GHz ISM band. Beam steering can be achieved by controlling the reactance of the variable reactance control circuit connected to the load of the parasitic elements without using the high cost phase shifters. The proposed antenna realizes ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ beam scanning of E-plane and H-plane with the below -10 dB return loss in ISM band. The gain of the $6.18{\sim}7.53\;dBi$ in E-plane and $7.022{\sim}7.779\;dBi$ in H-plane is shown in the scanning range.

  • Anisotropy of stiffness, from extremely small strains to post-failure strains, of isotropically consolidated air-pluviated sands in plane strain compression was studied by using the newly developed instrumentation for small strain measurements. Seven types of sand of the world-wide origins were tested, which have been extensively used for research purposes. Stress-strain at the specimen boundaries. It was found that the maximum Young's modulus $E_{max}$ was irrespective of the angle $\delta$ of the $\delta_1$ direction relative to the bedding plane. However, the normalized$ E_{max}$ was varied with the types of sand. Furthermore, the dependency of the strain and stress level on the stiffness was increased as $\delta$ decreased.

  • In this paper, a two-dimensional slotline coupling structure is proposed for the planar active phased array antenna system with scanning the beam by coupled oscillators without phase shifters. The operating characteristics are analyzed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed two-dimensional slotline coupling structure consists of $|{=}|$-type slotline in the ground plane for the coupling of E-plane and H-plane. From the simulation results of coupling strength with the variation of width, length and the number of slotlines, the optimal coupling structure is proposed and applied to $2{\times}5$ elements of planear phased array antenna. The experimental results show that the beamwidth of E-plane and H-pland are $42^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$, respectivly, and the scanning range is from $-20^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$ from the broadside. Therefore, it is shown the two-dimensional slotline coupling structure for oscillator-type active phased array antenna can be applied to the planar phased array antenna system.
