E (Electric) -glass fibers are the most widely used glass fibers, taking up 90 % of the long glass fiber market. However, very few papers have appeared on the physical characteristics of E-glass fibers and how they depend on the fiberizing temperature of fiber spinning. Glass fiber was fabricated via continuous spinning process using bulk E-glass. In order to fabricate the E-glass specimen, raw materials were put into a Pt crucible and melted at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs; mixture was then annealed at $621{\pm}10^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs. The transmittance and adaptable temperature for spinning of the bulk marble glass were characterized using a UV-visible spectrometer and a viscometer. Continuous spinning was carried out using direct melting spinning equipment as a function of the fiberizing temperature in the range of $1175{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$, while the winder speed was fixed at 500 rpm. Subsequently we investigated the physical properties of the E-glass fiber. The average diameter of the synthesized glass fiber was measured by optical microscope. The mechanical properties of the fiber were confirmed using a UTM (universal materials testing machine); the maximum tensile strength was measured and found to be $1843{\pm}449MPa$ at $1225^{\circ}C$.

The glass of E-glass fiber composition was fabricated by using refused coal ore which is obtained as by-product from Dogye coal mine in Samcheok. We used silica-alumina refused coal ore which has low carbon content relatively, and the amount of refused coal ore has been changed from 0 to 35 % in batch composition. E-glass was fabricated by the melting of mixed batch materials at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs with different refused coal ore composition of 0~35 %. We obtained a transparent and clear glass with high visible light transmittance value of 81~84%, thermal expansion coefficient of $5.39{\sim}5.61{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and softening point of $851{\sim}860^{\circ}C$. The glass fiber samples were also obtained through fiberizing equipment at $1150^{\circ}C$, and tested chemical resistance and tensile strength to evaluate the mechanical property as a reinforced glass fiber of composite material. As the result, we identified the properties of E-glass fiber by using refused coal ore are plenty good enough compare to that of normal E-glass without refused coal ore, and confirmed the possibility of refused coal ore as for the raw material of E-glass fiber.
Recently, E-glass fiber is the one of most widely used ceramic fiber for aerospace fields. Recycling technology for waste of wind power blades is arising issue for reasons of low manageability and high cost of wastes. Though glass fiber is perfectly dissolved in hydrofluoric acid, low cost for recycling and harmless to human is important for recycling of blades. Chemically melted glass fiber will be used as different purpose like accelerator of hardening for shotcrete. In this study, dissolution process of glass fiber is tested in NaOH solution at low temperatures. In addition, difference in diameter reduction of glass fiber is observed by various alkali concentration and reaction times, treatment temperatures using FE-SEM.

E-glass fiber is the most widely used glass fiber for reinforced composite materials of aircrafts, automobiles and leisure equipments. But recently researches are being progressed to reduce boric oxide from 8 % to 0 (zero), as is called 'Boron free E-glass', because of increasing material cost, environmental problem, and improving chemical resistance and mechanical properties of E-glass fiber. In this study, we fabricated the bulk glass and fiber glass of 'Boron free E-glass (BF) compositions', and characterized thermal properties and optical properties. 'Boron free E-glass (BF)' was obtained by the melting of mixed batch materials at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs with different $Al_2O_3$ compositions 5~10 %. We obtained transparent clear glass with high visible light transmittance value of 81~86 %, and low thermal expansion coefficient of $4.2{\sim}4.9{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and softening point of $907{\sim}928^{\circ}C$. For the chemical resistance test of 'BF' fiber samples, we identified that the higher alumina contents gives the better corrosion resistance of glass fiber.
This study has been investigated to apply fiber reinforced composites instead of asbestos as a friction material. the reinforced used was E-glass fiber and binder resin was phenol having good mechanical properties and heat resistance. And it has been also investigated the effect of molding conditions and some additives such and carbon black, alumina and rubber powder in E-glass fiber/phenol resin composite on the friction on the friction and wear characteristics. As a result, it was found that the molding conditions of E-glass fiber/phenol resin composites for friction materials had to be different from those of phenol resin and was found that the wear rate of E-glass fiber/phenol resin composites added alumina powder was higher than of composites added carbon black in the same wear distance. And it was found that friction coefficient of E-glass/phenol resin composites added carbon black was decreased and that of the composites added the powder of natural rubber and ABS rubber were increased compared to the composites.
In this study, to improve bending strength performance of Korean white pine, we made the curved composite glulam that was reinforced with glass fiber materials and larch lamina. Five types of Korean white pine curved glulams were made depending on whether they had been reinforced or not and how they had been reinforced. Type-A, reference specimen, was produced only with Korean white pine lamina, and Type-B was with larch lamina in the same thickness. Type-C was made by inserting a glass fiber cloth of textile shape between the each layer. Type-D was reinforced with two glass fiber cloths, which were placed inside and outside of the outermost lamina. Type-E was reinforced with GFRP sheet in the same way as Type-D. As a result of this bending strength test, the modulus of rupture (MOR) of Type-B, Type-C and Type-E were increased by 29%, 6%, and 48% in comparison with Type-A. However, MOR of Type-D was decreased by 2% in comparison with Type-A. In the failure modes, Type-A, Type-B and Type-C were totally fractured at the maximum load. However, load values of Type-D and Type-E decreased slowly because of reinforcement of fracture suppression, and the GFRP sheet (Type-E) had better reinforcing effect on compressive stress and tensile stress than the glass fiber cloth (Type-D).

Commercial AR(Alkali Resistant)-glass fiber has a good chemical resistant property, but also has a problem of difficulty in fiberizing process because of high viscosity in melted glass compare with E-glass fiber which is the most widely used for reinforced fiber of composite materials. In this study, we fabricated AR-glass fiber with low zirconia contents compare with commercial AR-glass fiber relatively, and measured properties against E-glass fiber. We obtained transparent clear glass with zirconia contents of 0.5~16 wt% by melting at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. These AR-glass samples had high visible transmittance of 89~90 %, softening temperature of $703{\sim}887^{\circ}C$. And softening temperatures of them were increased according to the increasing zirconia contents. Compare with E-glass, AR-glass contains 4 wt% zirconia has different value of $-94^{\circ}C$ in softening temperature, $+68^{\circ}C$ at Log3 temperature and $-13^{\circ}C$ at Log5 temperature in viscosity. We could verify good alkali resistant property of the AR-glass fiber with SEM after dipping in alkali solution for 48~72 hours, and also high tensile strength, 1.7 times compare with E-glass fiber at 48 hours and 2.2 times at 72 hours. We conclude that this AR-glass fiber can be widely used as general alkali resistant glass fiber because of easy manufacturing condition and good properties even though it has low zirconia contents.

Insulation systems in Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGC) are vulnerable to sloshing impact and fatigue loads because of waves. If gas leaks into the primary barrier, the Flexible Secondary Barrier (FSB) prevents the leakage of gas in this system. Fatigue strength of the FSB largely depends on the behavior of composite materials. In this study, a new system is applied to the FSB using aramid fiber to improve the fatigue strength of the secondary barrier, with the intention of replacing conventional E-glass fibers. The manufacturing method involved varying the ratio of the aramid fiber to the E-glass fiber for optimum design of the FSB. The fatigue tests results of the secondary barrier using aramid fiber were superior to that using E-glass fiber. The statistical analysis is performed to obtain the fatigue test results and estimate the probability of failure as well as the design guideline of LNGC secondary barriers.
This study was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of fabric E-glass fiber reinforced laminated timber. Specimens used to Korean red pine(Pinus densiflora) and Japanese larch(Larix kaemferi). Fabric E-glass fiber was inserted in the solid wood with aqueous polymer-isocyanate resin(MPU-500). The results were as follows: 1. Aqueous polymer-isocyanate resin(MPU-500) was good resin to manufacture laminated timber. specially, it was satisfied to property standard of construction laminated timber(KS F 3021) except for two ply glass fiber. 2. Bending and shear strengths of solid wood inserted with fabric glass fibers were not different from control solid wood. But, proportional limit bending stress was increased following the number of fabric glass fibers. Therefore, it was considered that to improve the bending and shear strength of fabric glass fiber reinforced laminated timber, the glass fiber thickness and its mesh should be modified to fitness following working conditions.
The effect of various environmental conditions on the durability of E-glass fiber/vinylester resin composites have been investigated using the tensile test specimen of strand type. It was found that the durability test method performed by the stand type specimen was more convenient and reliable than other conventional test method. The weight gains increased with the immersion time in both water and alkaline solution, and the Weight gains at $50^{\circ}C$. were much bigger than those at $20^{\circ}C$ in both conditions. The tensile strength decreased with the pass of immersion time in all aqueous solution, and the tensile strength at $80^{\circ}C$ in alkaline solution decreased very steeply at beginning of immersion time. The decrement of tensile strength according to the immersion time in various environmental conditions was mainly caused by the degradation of interface and the damage of glass fiber surface.
