  • Consumers are increasingly concerned about the origin of foods, so the geographical origin of foods has been a major topic of debate and extensive research. Various instrumental methods (e.g. high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), capillary electrophoresis (CE), electronic nose, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), DNA analysis, multi-isotope analysis) in conjunction with statistical analysis, were developed and applied in attempt to provide reliable answers to their geographical origin. This study reviews current developments in the application of various methods for a clear geographical origin of foods. The limitation of discrimination analysis for geographical origin was also discussed.

  • CVD diamond tools are becoming more widely used in industry as an economic alternative to polycrystalline diamond (PCD) for machining non-ferrous and non-metallic materials. Although CVD diamond-sheet tools have been on the market for several years, diamond-coated carbide inserts have become available only recently, with the successful resolution of long-standing adhesion problems. Diamond coating morphology on the rake surface of the tool affects chip formation favorably, whereas a microscopically rough, faceted morphology on the flank surface of the tool produces a rough workpiece finish. Workpiece finish can be improved by using a coated tool with a larger nose radius. The tool life provided by diamond-coated tools(~30 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick) can meet or exceed that of PCD tools, depending on the characteristics of the workpiece material. When using diamond-coated carbide tools in milling, a sharp-edged PCD tool should be used in the wiper position of the cutter to minimize workpiece roughness and burr formation.

  • The HANARO reactor has a vertical hole for a cold neutron source (CNS) in the heavy-water reflector tank, i.e., the CNS hole, which was considerably deformed during its welding to the horizontal cold neutron (CN) beam tube. This paper presents an investigation of the form of the CNS hole for the optimal design of the a vacuum chamber for the CNS. In addition, the installation method of the vacuum chamber into the CNS hole for minimizing the water thickness between the vacuum chamber and the nose of the CN beam tube is proposed.

  • A technique on the detection of tool wear based on the ultrasonic pulse-echo method in turning process is presented. The change in amount of the reflected energy from nose and flank of the tool can be related to the level of tool wear and mechanical integrity of the tool, that is, there exists an excellent correlation between the ultrasonic measurement and tool wear. As a results, the method is very useful for the prediction of cutting tool life and the determination of tool exchange period.

  • The problem of detecting individual differences of chemically similar liquids remains to be unsolved for various areas of the natural sciences, such as medicine, biology, nutrition, and cosmetics 1. This problem is of crucial importance for the cosmetic sciences, including perfumery and aromatherapy. For example, some certain subtle differences of smell and taste between chemically similar liquids are very difficult to detect by using conventional methods of analysis, such as gas chromatography (GC) and the like (except under unique advanced techniques that are expensive, time consuming, and are not readily available). However, a trained human nose and! or mouth of a perfumer and/ or taster can detect differences of that kind. There are two conventional ways to make a fragrance.(omitted)

  • This paper describes a ultrasonic method for direct measurement of tool wear in turning operations. An integrated single ultrasonic transducer operating at a frequency of 10MHz is placed in contact with the insert tip. The change in amount of the reflected energy form the nose and flanks of the tool can be related to the level of tool wear and thr mechanical integrity of the tool. As a results, a correlation exists between the untrasonic measurement and tool wear and that it is tool dependent.

  • In process of the finish face milling of the hardended STD11 steel(H /sab r/ c50,55) by CBN tool, the optimum tool shape is suggested, which can minimize the tool fracture and by chipping by impact. The obtained results are as follows. (1) The optimal chamfer angel was about 25 .deg. , and the suitable chamfer width was 0.2mm. (2) The nose radius of tool was most excellent at 1.2mm in the viewpoint of tool wear and surface roughness. (3) Wear speed was effected by sintering method of CBN tool B.U.E

  • In the manufacturing field, some traditional manufacturing and machining methods become weakened the productivity, the external competitive power, and accuracies of the products. In these point of view, the unmanned and intelligent manufacturing systems are proposed by some manufacturing companies. The real-time monitoring technology of the cutting tool conditions i.e. tool wear, tool breakage, crack, and chipping anre necessarily reauired to realize those system, especially. In this study, we constructed the multi- sensing system using the acceleration sensor, the current sensor, and the loadmeter of a machine tool. Also, we analyzed the nose breakage, the massive signal, and some monitoring features by means of the developed system.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of bony and soft tissue by the growth Each 50 boys and girls was studied aged 7 through 9 years old. The results were as follows; 1. Thickness of soft tissue was increased by the growth and much more done in boys than in girls. 2. In the linear measurement of soft tissue change of A-A' was most remarkable. 3. Nose length was increased in both boys and girls. Remarkable change was observed in male aged 8 through 9 years old and in female aged 7 through 8 years old. 4. In the linear measurement of bony tissue change, S-Pg, Go-Me, S-A, and S-N were increased in sequence. 5. Point-A and Pg in bony tissue grow more downward direction than forward. 6. In the angular measurement, no significant change was observed.
