Task Scheduling on Cloudlet in Mobile Cloud Computing with Load Balancing

  • The recent growth in the use of mobile devices has contributed to increased computing and storage requirements. Cloud computing has been used over the past decade to cater to computational and storage needs over the internet. However, the use of various mobile applications like Augmented Reality (AR), M2M Communications, V2X Communications, and the Internet of Things (IoT) led to the emergence of mobile cloud computing (MCC). All data from mobile devices is offloaded and computed on the cloud, removing all limitations incorporated with mobile devices. However, delays induced by the location of data centers led to the birth of edge computing technologies. In this paper, we discuss one of the edge computing technologies, i.e., cloudlet. Cloudlet brings the cloud close to the end-user leading to reduced delay and response time. An algorithm is proposed for scheduling tasks on cloudlet by considering VM's load. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm provides 12% and 29% improvement over EMACS and QRR while balancing the load.

  • 본 논문에서는 스마트 플랫폼에서 다양한 UX(User eXprience)를 위한 적외선(IR, Infra red) 카메라를 이용해 손가락의 움직임을 파악하고 추적하여 언제 어디서든 쉽게 사용하고 휴대하기 편한 웨어러블 키보드의 설계방안을 제안한다. 이를 위해 2대의 적외선 카메라로 인식된 영상을 바탕으로 Fingertip Tracking 알고리즘과 k-cuvature 알고리즘 적용하기 위해 OpenCV와 MFC로 가상의 웨어러블 키보드를 설계하였다.

모바일 폰을 이용한 스마트 E-캘리퍼스 구현 (An Implementation of Smart E-Calipers for Mobile Phones)

  • 스마트폰의 고성능 카메라를 사용하여 버니어 캘리퍼스를 대체할 앱의 개발을 목표로 연구를 진행하고 있다. 앱은 제안된 템플릿이 부착된 측정 대상을 촬영한다. 촬영된 영상에서 템플릿을 참조하여 측정 대상에서 사용자가 지정한 지점 간의 거리를 측정한다. 앱의 정밀도는 시중에서 판매되고 있는 버니어 캘리퍼스의 오차 범위를 유지하도록 한다. 시장에 보급된 스마트폰의 카메라는 12M 픽셀이며, 그 이미지 셀의 크기는 1.4㎛이므로 이론적으로 버니어 캘리퍼스보다 더 정밀한 측정이 가능하다. 기존에 제안한 알고리즘에서는 촬영된 소스 영상의 템플릿 형태로부터 기준 거리를 추출하였지만, 제안하는 알고리즘은 알고 있는 템플릿의 기하학적 속성을 이용하여 영상을 보정한 후 거리를 구함으로써 향상된 정밀한 길이를 구할 수 있다.

Schedule communication routing approach to maximize energy efficiency in wireless body sensor networks

  • E-Health allows you to supersede the central patient wireless healthcare system. Wireless Body Sensor Network (WBSN) is the first phase of the e-Health system. In this paper, we aim to understand e-Health architecture and configuration, and attempt to minimize energy consumption and latency in transmission routing protocols during restrictive latency in data delivery of WBSN phase. The goal is to concentrate on polling protocol to improve and optimize the routing time interval and schedule communication to reduce energy utilization. In this research, two types of network models routing protocols are proposed - elemental and clustering. The elemental model improves efficiency by using a polling protocol, and the clustering model is the extension of the elemental model that Destruct Supervised Decision Tree (DSDT) algorithm has been proposed to solve the time interval conflict transmission. The simulation study verifies that the proposed models deliver better performance than the existing BSN protocol for WBSN.

  • 인터넷의 보급이 급속히 확대됨과 동시에 전자상거래가 급속도로 증가하고 있다. 지금까지는 컴퓨터를 통한 전자상거래가 대부분을 차지하였으나 무선이동 통신의 보급이 급속도로 빨라지면서 무선통신을 통한 전자상거래인 m-Commerce가 부각되어지고 있다. m-Commerce를 원활히 하기 위해서는 필요한 대역폭과 단말기의 프로세싱 파워와 자원이 확보되어야 한다. 그러나 무선이동 통신에서는 일반 유선 통신과는 다르게 많은 제한 사항들이 있다. 이동 통신에서 가장 크게 고려해야 할 사항들은 핸드오프와 무선이동 단말기의 부족한 자원을 들 수 있다. 005를 지원하기 위한 기존의 대역폭 예약 시스템에서 여러 가지 인자를 사용하였으나 본 논문에서는 셀 간 체류하는 시간인자와 가장 최근의 사용자 패턴인자를 적용하여 더욱더 좋은 005를 지원하여 대역폭을 낭비하지 않고 최대한 활용하는 시스템들 설계하고 구현하고자 한다.

SKEW-SYMMETRIC SOLVENT FOR SOLVING A POLYNOMIAL EIGENVALUE PROBLEM

  • In this paper a nonlinear matrix equation is considered which has the form $$P(X)=A_0X^m+A_1X^{m-1}+{\cdots}+A_{m-1}X+A_m=0$$ where X is an $n{\times}n$ unknown real matrix and $A_m$, $A_{m-1}$, ${\cdots}$, $A_0$ are $n{\times}n$ matrices with real elements. Newtons method is applied to find the skew-symmetric solvent of the matrix polynomial P(X). We also suggest an algorithm which converges the skew-symmetric solvent even if the Fr$\acute{e}$echet derivative of P(X) is singular.

Optimal placement of elastic steel diagonal braces using artificial bee colony algorithm

  • This paper presents a new algorithm to find the optimal distribution of steel diagonal braces (SDB) using artificial bee colony optimization technique. The four different objective functions are employed based on the transfer function amplitude of; the top displacement, the top absolute acceleration, the base shear and the base moment. The stiffness parameter of SDB at each floor level is taken into account as design variables and the sum of the stiffness parameter of the SDB is accepted as an active constraint. An optimization algorithm based on the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is proposed to minimize the objective functions. The proposed ABC algorithm is applied to determine the optimal SDB distribution for planar buildings in order to rehabilitate existing planar steel buildings or to design new steel buildings. Three planar building models are chosen as numerical examples to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method. The optimal SDB designs are compared with a uniform SDB design that uniformly distributes the total stiffness across the structure. The results of the analysis clearly show that each optimal SDB placement, which is determined based on different performance objectives, performs well for its own design aim.

  • In this paper, the active backlight control technology with data processing algorithm was developed in order to improve image quality for IPS-mode LCD-TV applications. The image blinking problem caused by repeatedly abrupt change of the backlight luminance was solved by algorithms-Fba(Flexible Boundary algorithm) and Cfa(Cumulative Feedback algorithm)-and the optimized number and space of backlight dimming steps based on perception. In the IPS-mode 42" TFT-LCD panel, the dynamic contrast ratio can be more than twice the typical level by means of lower block luminance and higher white luminance. Additionally, Power consumption and LCD temperature was decreased.

Non linear vibrations of stepped beam systems using artificial neural networks

  • In this study, the nonlinear vibrations of stepped beams having different boundary conditions were investigated. The equations of motions were obtained by using Hamilton's principle and made non dimensional. The stretching effect induced non-linear terms to the equations. Natural frequencies are calculated for different boundary conditions, stepped ratios and stepped locations by Newton-Raphson Method. The corresponding nonlinear correction coefficients are also calculated for the fundamental mode. At the second part, an alternative method is produced for the analysis. The calculated natural frequencies and nonlinear corrections are used for training an artificial neural network (ANN) program which has a multi-layer, feed-forward, back-propagation algorithm. The results of the algorithm produce errors less than 2.5% for linear case and 10.12% for nonlinear case. The errors are much lower for most cases except clamped-clamped end condition. By employing the ANN algorithm, the natural frequencies and nonlinear corrections are easily calculated by little errors, and the computational time is drastically reduced compared with the conventional numerical techniques.

  • Although there are many applications of Euclidean Voronoi diagram for spheres in a 3D space in various disciplines from sciences and engineering, it has not been studied as much as it deserves. In this paper, we present an edge-tracing algorithm to compute the Euclidean Voronoi diagram of 3-dimensional spheres in O(mn) in the worst-case, where m is the number of edges of Voronoi diagram and n is the number of spheres. After building blocks for the algorithm, we show an example of Voronoi diagram for atoms using actual protein data and discuss its applications for protein analysis.
