Development of e-Learning Software Quality Evaluation Model (e-Learning 소프트웨어의 품질평가 모델 개발)

  • Recently, E-Learning based on wide-area infrastructure is being spotlighted as the new means to innovate education at school and develop human resources at society and appeared as the main point of digital content industry. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of base technology of E-Learning software and developed E-Learning software quality evaluation model by analyzing quality characteristics for quality test and evaluation of E-Learning software. To do so, we established the quality evaluation system and developed the evaluation model to evaluate the quality about E-Learning software by introducing related international standard. We think that this will promote development of competitive E-Learning software products.

The Effect of e-Learning Contents' Information Presentation Method on Teaching Presence and Academic Achievement (e-러닝 콘텐츠의 정보제시방식이 교수실재감 및 학업성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study examined the effect of e-learning contents with different dual-coding, media-richness, and cognitive-load degree on learning. To do so, after dividing summary and explanation presentation methods in e-learning contents according to information's quantity and kind, the effects on teaching presence and academic achievement were examined. The summary presentation method was produced as text type and text+illustration type and the explanation presentation method as audio type and audio+video type. The results of this study are as follows. First, in the summary method, the text+illustration type had significantly higher teaching presence than text type. Second, in the explanation method, the audio type was found to be significantly higher than the audio+video type. Third, the interaction between the summary method and explanation method was found to be significant in teaching presence and academic achievement.

A Survey Study of IT Vocational Education Contents Development in Ubiquitous Learing for Persons with Hearing Impairments (u-Learning 기반 IT 직업교육과정 개발을 위한 청각장애인의 욕구조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to research the actual condition of on-line and off-line computer education in order to create more opportunities for the possibility of effective learning and u-Learning - based IT vocational education development of persons with hearing impairments. To carry out this study, we had a preliminary education of this study for a sign language interpreters who had working in a association of the deaf in Daegu, and had conducted a survey study participating for 100 persons with hearing impairments living in Daegu-Kyungbook Region. The results of this study were as follows: First, during on-line and offline education environment for persons with hearing impairments, factors such as teaching methods and contents, screen organization, learning effects, offering lecture material and subtitle, subtitle and sign language video of position and size, offering computer instructor who have a sign language interpreter with IT mentoring, on-line educational user environment setting must be considered factors for u-Learning - based IT vocational education development. Second, 74% of the subjects showed their interest in taking a course, after u-Learning contents are developed for persons with hearing impairments. Third, the subjects preferred IT device was a tablet PCs and IT certification related courses as their IT vocational education curriculum. Also, to link between professional training and job opportunity, subjects will need a IT vocational education courses such as computer intermediate and advanced levels.

Effects of 5E Learning-Cycle Model on Science Academic Achievements, Science Process Skill and Scientific Attitude of Elementary School Students (5E 순환학습이 초등학생의 과학 학업 성취도와 탐구 능력 및 과학적 태도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of academic achievements, science process skill and scientific attitude. The subjects of this study were 68 fourth-grade elementary school students who were 33 students for the 5E learning cycle instruction and 35 students for traditional instruction. The control group was taught with traditional teaching method, while the experimental group was taught 'the change to the volume of material due to heat' unit of 4th grade with the developed learning cycle model. The results were as fellows: First, the learning cycle instruction is more effective for understanding of a concept related to the change to the volume of material due to heat. Second, the learning cycle model seems more effective for the expansion of both scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude.

  • The e-Learning is one of best ways to generate the substitution effect for classroom learning, and robust and rational distribution structure for e-Learning industry is the key issue for successful educational performance of e-Learning, however the recent e-Learning market has a distribution status quite different from rational structure. This paper focuses on issues of e-Learning distribution status and alternatives for policy making. In order to make this study successful, we discuss about concepts and scopes of e-Learning distribution and various types of distribution structure by business models. We conducted an interview survey for business individual experts for distribution modelling. Based on the result of the survey, this paper describes issues of distribution structure and suggests alternatives for policy making in the Korea e-Learning market.

A Study on the Influence of Learning Style and Instructional Method in Cyber-home Learning (사이버가정학습에서 학습 스타일과 교육 방법이 미치는 효과성 연구)

  • Cyber-home Learning aims to extend learning space from the classroom to real-life situations, and teachers of research schools on Cyber-home learning have indicated the importance of connection with school instruction in order to improve students' performance. The goal of this study is to evaluate the influence of the instructional method( blended-learning vs just cyber learning) and the learning styles by Kolb's LSI on Cyber-home learning. We carried out the experiment using two similar classes in the social and math subjects for 1 semester. The results statistically shows the instructional method is the most influence on learning score and the next element is the learning styles. Therefor this study proved again Cyber-home learning is effective when connecting with school instruction and also the more various contents on learning styles could be supportive to students. In other words teacher's role and the adaptive learning contents by learning styles are essential for Cyber-home Learning's success.

  • In this thesis, we suggested an e-learning model, which is named 'goal driven personalized e-learning system' to improve educational effects, and implemented it. The system makes the learner choose the learning goal which could be a motivational power for learning, so it enabled self-directed learning. In order to implement the system, we proposed new standards related to personalization by modifying SCORM 2004 standard. New standards stand for the statistics on learning objects usage, a goal for driving learning. and information of the contents model and the sequencing information model, which are parts of the system previously suggested. We implemented the system, and then proved that personalize e-learning is possible by showing that the system could offer a learning path individually to learners who have different characteristics.

  • 다양한 사회의 문제를 여러 각도에서 담고 있는 신문은 교과서의 한계를 보완하고자 하고 다양한 교수학습방법을 필요로 하는 교육계의 요구와 결합하며 NIE학습을 등장시켰다. 정보통신기술의 발달과 시대적 요구에 의해 종이 신문은 인터넷 신문으로 변화하였고, NIE학습은 정보통신기술의 인프라 기반이 완비된 학교, 가정에서 지식정보화 사회의 급변하는 환경 변화에 능동적으로 대응해 나갈 수 있는 창의적이고 전문적인 인적자원의 육성을 목적으로 하는 이러닝(e-learning)의 학습방법과 결합하여 e-NIE로 발전하였다. e-NIE학습이 이루어지기 위한 필요조건을 알아보고, 기존의 NIE학습이 가지고 있던 장점을 살리면서 이러닝의 환경 속에서 보다 효과적으로 활용할 수 있는 e-NIE의 학습 활동 종류를 4가지 영역으로 나누어 각 영역의 활동을 구체적으로 제시해 보았다.

A Study on Systematic Review of Learning with a Robot (로봇활용교육의 체계적 문헌고찰에 관한 연구)

  • The study is to review the effects of learning with a robot among regular courses of elementary and middle schools so that the research method of systematic review for papers from 2001 and 2013 was conducted. The database for review were KISS, DBpia, and E-article and it was searched with two options of 'robot & education' and 'learning with a robot'. Initially, 481 papers were searched; but finally 50 were selected after monitoring and extraction execution in line with protocol. Great volume of researches focused on academic skill such as a creativity, problem solving skills and as for research methods, Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design and t-test took the lion's share. As for educational effects, improvements of course interest, immersion, attitude, motivation, creativeness and problem solving skills were identified; but in some researches, insignificant research outcomes were reported. Based on analysis results, considerations for learning with a robot were suggested.

The effects of e-learning characteristics on e-learner's scholastic performance (이러닝 특성이 학습자의 학업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • RThe main object of this study is to stipulate the relation between e-learning characteristics and e-learner's scholastic performance through the integrated study model of perspective of educational technology and information technology. Using e-learning system quality, e-learning contents characteristics and interaction as independent variable, e-learner's scholastic performance as dependent variable and learning motivation as mediator, this study has examined the relationship among these variables. Two hundreds and twelve undergraduates in cyber university participated in the survey and filled out questionnaires related to this study. The main results are as followed. First, content's quality, technical quality and the support of school affairs have a significant effect on the e-learner's scholastic performance. Second, Learning motivation plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between e-learning characteristics and e-learner's scholastic performance. The meaningful implication of this study is that to improve e-learner's scholastic performance, we have to offer e-learners more customized various learning plans, learning contents and interaction between e-learners and e-learning systems.
