A new dynamic scheduling algorithm is proposed for CAN-based real-time system in this paper. The proposed algorithm is extended from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach having a solution to the priority inversion. Using the proposed algorithm, the available bandwidth of network media can be checked dynamically, and consequently arbitration delay causing the miss of deadline can be avoided. Also, non-real time messages can be processed with their bandwidth allocation. Full network utilization and real-time transmission feasibility can be achieved through the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, two simulation tests are performed. The first one is transmission data measurement per minute for periodic messages and the second one is feasibility in the system with both periodic messages and non-real time message.

A distributed dynamic channel assignment is proposed and its performance is examined in a highway microcellular radio environment. In the two step ordered local packing (TOLP) scheme, channels are assigned on an ordered basis under cochannel utilization in congested microcell region. A selection criterion is employed to decide the cell from which a free channel is borrowed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms existing methods is channel utilization and call blocking probabilities, especially under asymmetric call arrivals with a lower call switching requirement.
Usually the static scheduling algorithms such as DMS(Deadline Monotonic Scheduling) or RMS(Rate Monotonic Scheduling) are used for CAN scheduling due to its ease with implementation. However, due to their inherently low utilization of network media, some dynamic scheduling approaches have been studied to enhance the utilization. In case of dynamic scheduling algorithms, two considerations are needed. The one is a priority inversion due to rough deadline encoding into stricted arbitration fields of CAN. The other is an arbitration delay due to the non-preemptive feature of CAN. In this paper, an extended algorithm is proposed from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach of CAN scheduling algorithm having a solution to the priority inverstion ....

Recent multi-core processors for smart devices use per-core dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) that enables independent voltage and frequency control of cores. However, because the conventional task scheduler was originally designed for per-core DVFS disabled processors, it cannot effectively utilize the per-core DVFS and simply allocates tasks evenly across all cores to core utilization with the same CPU frequency. Hence, we propose a novel task scheduler to effectively utilize percore DVFS, which enables each core to have the appropriate frequency, thereby improving performance and decreasing energy consumption. The proposed scheduler classifies applications into two types, based on performance-sensitivity and allows a performance-sensitive application to have a dedicated core, which maximizes core utilization. The experimental evaluations with a real off-the-shelf smart device showed that the proposed task scheduler reduced 13.6% of CPU energy (up to 28.3%) and 3.4% of execution time (up to 24.5%) on average, as compared to the conventional task scheduler.

This paper develops a dynamic regression model to quantify the contribution of key external factors to operational energy efficiency of ships. On this basis, kernel density estimation is applied to explore distribution patterns of fluctuations in operational performance. An empirical analysis based on these methods show that distribution of fluctuations in Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) is leptokurtic and fat tailed, rather than a normal one. Around 85% of fluctuations in EEOI can be jointly explained by capacity utilization and sailing speed, while the rest depend on other external factors largely beyond control. The variations in capacity utilization and sailing speed cannot be fully passed on to the energy efficiency performance of ships, due to complex interactions between various external factors. The application of the methods is demonstrated, showing a potential approach to develop a rating mechanism for use in the legally binding framework on operational energy efficiency of ships.
BEE 802.11 Wireless LAN protocol uses fixed transmission power. It does not consider a power control mechanism based on the distance between the transmitter and the receiver in order to improve overall channel utilization. In home environment, where stations generally lie around an AP, the AP is subject to use transmission power more than it needs. And wireless LAN stations may require different minimal desired received power. If there are many adjacent BSSs in densely populated WLAN area, they might cause RF interference to one another. In this paper we focus on the improvement of aggregate utilization by mitigating RF interference among BSSs. We show that RF interference by APs can be reduced by controlling transmission power using Link Margin information. The reduced interference will then lead to the increased aggregate throughput which is efficient resource utilization.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of IT-enabled dynamic capability in the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation performance under Industry 4.0. We approach the intellectual capital from the perspective of the resource-based view and define the components of intellectual capital as human capital, social capital, and organizational capital. On the other hand, the IT-based dynamic capability means that the information technology and the utilization ability of the enterprise are combined to overcome the turbulent environment. The empirical results showed that the IT-enabled dynamic capabilities mediated the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation performance as it revealed in theory. And in terms of practical implications, we found the importance of an organization's information technology ability to effectively utilize intangible resources for organizational performance.
In this paper, we propose a new dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for multimedia services over Ethernet PONs (passive optical networks). The proposed algorithm is composed of a low-level scheduler in the optical network unit (ONU) and a high-level scheduler in the optical line terminal (OLT). The hierarchical DBA algorithm can provide expansibility and efficient resource allocation in an Ethernet PON system in which the packet scheduler is separated from the queues. In the proposed DBA algorithm, the OLT allocates bandwidth to the ONUs in proportion to the weight associated with their class and queue length, while the ONU preferentially allocates its bandwidth to queues with a static priority order. The proposed algorithm provides an efficient resource utilization by reducing the unused remaining bandwidth caused by the variable length of the packets. We also define the service classes and present control message formats conforming to the multi-point control protocol (MPCP) over an Ethernet PON. In order to evaluate the performance, we designed an Ethernet PON system on the basis of IEEE 802.3ah "Ethernet in the first mile" (EFM) using OPNET and carried out simulations. The results are analyzed in terms of the channel utilization, queuing delay, and ratio of the unused remaining bandwidth.

The IEEE 802.22 standard is being developed with the target of improving the efficiency of spectrum utilization and importing the new wireless communication service. The WRAN standard based on Cognitive Radio is being processed for sharing TV bands. In this paper, the efficient spectrum allocation scheme and the optimal power allocation scheme, Partial Constant Power Water Filling (PCPWF), are proposed to maximize the channel capacity and spectrum efficiency and minimize the interference between adjacent cells. And we maximize the system throughput and fairness by using proposed dynamic cell plan that efficiently allocates channel. The results of the simulations are presented to verify the utilization of our proposed scheme.

Flexible risers are usually used as conveying systems to bring ocean resources from sea bed up to onshore. Under ocean environments, risers need to bear complex loads and it is crucial to comprehensively examine riser's configurations and to analyze structural dynamic performances under excitation of bottom vehicle motions, to guarantee structural safe operation and required service lives. In this study, considering a saddle-shaped riser, the influences of some important design parameters, including installation position of buoyancy modules, buoyancy ratio and motion of mining vehicle, on riser's configuration and response are carefully examined. Through our FEM simulations, the spatial distributions of structural tensions and curvatures along of riser length, under different configurations, are compared. Then, the impacts of mining vehicle motion on riser dynamic response are discussed, and structural tolerance performance is assessed. The results show that modules installation position and buoyancy ratio have significant impacts on riser configurations. And, an appropriate riser configuration is obtained through comprehensive analysis on the modules positions and buoyancy ratios. Under this proposed configuration, the structural tension and curvature could moderately change with buoyancy modules and bottom-end conditions, in other words, the proposed saddle-shaped riser has a good tolerance performance to various load excitations.
