  • Dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays an important role in non-invasive detection and characterization of primary and metastatic lesions in the liver. Recently, efforts have been made to improve spatial and temporal resolution of DCE liver MRI for arterial phase imaging. Review of recent publications related to arterial phase imaging of the liver indicates that there exist primarily two approaches: breath-hold and free-breathing. For breath-hold imaging, acquiring multiple arterial phase images in a breath-hold is the preferred approach over conventional single-phase imaging. For free-breathing imaging, a combination of three-dimensional (3D) stack-of-stars golden-angle sampling and compressed sensing parallel imaging reconstruction is one of emerging techniques. Self-gating can be used to decrease respiratory motion artifact. This article introduces recent MRI technologies relevant to hepatic arterial phase imaging, including differential subsampling with Cartesian ordering (DISCO), golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP), and X-D GRASP. This article also describes techniques related to dynamic 3D image reconstruction of the liver from golden-angle stack-of-stars data.

  • In medical ultrasound imaging, frequency-dependent attenuation downshifts and reduces a center frequency and a frequency bandwidth of received echo signals, respectively. This causes considerable errors in quadrature demodulation (QDM), result in lowering signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast resolution (CR). To address this problem, adaptive dynamic QDM (ADQDM) that estimates center frequencies along depth was introduced. However, the ADQDM often fails when imaging regions contain hypoechoic regions. In this paper, we introduce a valid region-based ADQDM (VR-ADQDM) method to reject the misestimated center frequencies to further improve SNR and CR. The valid regions are regions where the center frequency decreases monotonically along depth. In addition, as a low-pass filter of QDM, Gaussian wavelet based dynamic filtering was adopted. From the phantom experiments, average SNR improvements of the ADQDM and the VR-ADQDM over the traditional QDM were 1.22 and 5.27 dB, respectively, and the corresponding maximum SNR improvements were 2.56 and 10.58 dB. The contrast resolution of the VR-ADQDM was also improved by 0.68 compared to that of the ADQDM. Similar results were obtained from in vivo experiments. These results indicate that the proposed method would offer promises for imaging technically-difficult patients due to its capability in improving SNR and CR.

  • This paper presents a low-power high-resolution band-pass ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ ADC for accelerometer applications. The proposed band-pass ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ ADC consists of a high-performance 6-th order feed-forward ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator with 1-bit quantization and a low-power, area-efficient digital filter. The ADC is fabricated in 180 nm 1P6M mixed-signal CMOS process with a die area of $5mm^2$. This high-resolution ADC got 90 dB peak signal to noise plus distortion ratio (SNDR) and 96 dB dynamic range (DR) over 4 kHz bandwidth, while the intermediate frequency (IF) is shifting from 100 KHz to 200 KHz. The power dissipation of the chip is 5.6 mW under 1.8 V (digital)/3.3 V (analog) power supply.

  • The direct write FIB technology has several advantages over contemporary micro-machining technology, including better feature resolution with low lateral scattering and capability of maskless fabrication. Therefore, the application of FIB technology in micro fabrication has become increasingly popular. In recent model of FIB, however the feeding system has been a very coarse resolution of about a few ${\mu}m$. Our research is the development of nano stage of 200mm strokes and 10nm resolutions. Also, this stage should be effectively operating in ultra high vacuum of about $1x10^{-7}$ torr. This paper presents the discussion and results of CAE of the 2 axes stages. we have estimated the stable static and dynamic characteristics for dual servo system. Therefore the 2 axes stages developed and future work are introduced at the end of the paper.

  • A meso-urban meteorological model (Urbanized MM5; uMM5) with urban canopy parameterization (UCP) was applied to the high-resolution simulation of meteorological fields in a complex coastal urban area and the assessment of urban impacts. Multi-scale simulations with the uMM5 in the innermost domain (1-km resolution) covering the Busan metropolitan region were performed during a typical sea breeze episode (4~8 August 2006) with detailed fine-resolution inputs (urban morphology, land-use/land-cover sub-grid distribution, and high-quality digital elevation model data sets). An additional simulation using the standard MM5 was also conducted to identify the effects of urban surface properties under urban meteorological conditions. Results showed that the uMM5 reproduced well the urban thermal and dynamic environment and captured well the observed feature of sea breeze. When comparison with simulations of the standard MM5, it was found that the uMM5 better reproduced urban impacts on temperature (especially at nighttime) and urban wind flows: roughness-induced deceleration and UHI (Urban Heat Island)-induced convergence.

  • Stereo matching has been grabbing the attention of researchers because it plays an important role in computer vision, remote sensing and photogrammetry. Although most methods perform well with small size images, experiments applying them to large-scale data sets under uncontrolled conditions are still lacking. In this paper, we present an empirical study on stereo matching for large-scale high-resolution satellite images. A new method is studied to solve the problem of huge size and memory requirement when dealing with large-scale high resolution satellite images. Integrating the tiling technique with the well-known dynamic programming and coarse-to-fine pyramid scheme as well as using memory wisely, the suggested method can be utilized for huge stereo satellite images. Analyzing 350 points from an image of size of 8192 x 8192, disparity results attain an acceptable accuracy with RMS error of 0.5459. Taking the trade-off between computational aspect and accuracy, our method gives an efficient stereo matching for huge satellite image files.

  • This paper presents an improved method for high-resolution rotor position estimation in the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives with low-resolution Hall-effect sensors. The proposed method adopts a gain-scheduled full-order speed observer. Since the quantized position signal, which is obtained from Hall-effect sensors, is basically used as the input of the observer, the sixth-order harmonics are essentially included in the estimated position. To eliminate the harmonic components, the quantized position is linearized by a linear extrapolation based on the estimated average speed and futhermore the speed-depentent observer gain scheduling strategy is developed. The observer gain is also scheduled by considering the motor acceleration to improve the dynamic performance according to the changes of the motor speed and load. Several experiments are performed for 800W PMSM drive and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
