This paper presents a heuristic process-optimization procedure for minimizing warpage in injection-molded parts based on the dynamic robust design methodology. The injection molding process is known to have intrinsic variations of its process conditions due to various factors, including incomplete process control facilities. The aim of the robust design methodology advocated by Taguchi is to determine the optimum design variables in a system which is robust to variations in uncontrollable factors. The proposed procedure can determine the optimal robust conditions of injection molding processes at a minimum cost through a trade-off strategy between the degree of warpage and the packing time.
As the market rapidly changes, the speed of new product development is highlighted as a critical element which determines the success of firms. While firms endeavor to accelerate the development speed, frequent iterations in a development process hinders the effort of acceleration. For this reason, many previous researches tried to find the optimal structure of the development process which minimizes the number of iterations. However, such researches have a limitation in that they can be applied to only a single-project environment. In a multi-project environment, waiting time induced by lack of resources also delays the process as well as the iterations do. In this paper, we propose dynamic sequencing method focusing on both iterations and waiting time for reducing the durations of development projects in a multi-project environment. This method reduces the waiting time by changing the sequence of development tasks according to the states of resources. While the method incurs additional iterations, they are expected to be offset by the reduced waiting time. The results of simulation show that the dynamic sequencing method dramatically improves the efficiency of a development process. Especially, the improvement is more salient as projects are more crowded and the process is more unbalanced. This method gives a new insight in researches on managing multiple development projects.

This study focuses on the efficiency and applicability of dynamic relaxation methods in form-finding of membrane structures. Membrane structures have large deformations that require complex nonlinear analysis. The first step of analysis of these structures is the form-finding process including a geometrically nonlinear analysis. Several numerical methods for form-finding have been introduced such as the dynamic relaxation, force density method, particle spring systems and the updated reference strategy. In the present study, dynamic relaxation method (DRM) is investigated. The dynamic relaxation method is an iterative process that is used for the static equilibrium analysis of geometrically nonlinear problems. Five different examples are used in this paper. To achieve the grading of the different dynamic relaxation methods in form-finding of membrane structures, a performance index is introduced. The results indicate that viscous damping methods show better performance than kinetic damping in finding the shapes of membrane structures.
High performance concrete (HPC) depends on various parameters such as the type of cement, aggregate and water reducer amount. Generally, the ready concrete company in various regions according to the requirements and costs, mix design of concrete as well as type of cement, aggregates, and, amount of other components will vary as a result of moment decisions or dynamic optimization, though the ideal conditions will be more applicable for the design of mix proportion of concrete. This study aimed to apply dynamic optimization for mix design of HPC; consequently, the objective function, decision variables, input and output variables and constraints are defined and also the proposed dynamic optimization model is validated by experimental results. Results indicate that dynamic optimization objective function can be defined in such a way that the compressive strength or performance of all constraints is simultaneously examined, so changing any of the variables at each step of the process input and output data changes the dynamic of the process which makes concrete mix design formidable.
All the loads in the real world act dynamically on structures. Since dynamic loads are extremely difficult to handle in analysis and design, static loads are utilized with dynamic factors. The dyna mic factors are generally determined based on experiences. Therefore, the static loads can cause problems in precise analysis and design. An analytical method based on modal analysis has been proposed for the transformation of dynamic loads into equivalent static load sets. Equivalent static load sets are calculated to generate an identical displacement field in a structure with that from dynamic loads at a certain time. The process is derived and evaluated mathematically. The method is verified through numerical tests. Various characteristics are identified to match the dynamic and the static behaviors. For example, the opposite direction of a dynamic load should be considered due to the vibration response. A dynamic bad is transformed to multiple equivalent static loads according to the number of the critical times. The places of the equivalent static load can be different from those of the dynamic load. An optimization method is defined to use the equivalent static loads. The developed optimization process has the same effect as the dynamic optimization which uses the dynamic loads directly. Standard examples are solved and the results are discussed
The dynamic capabilities of sensing market signals, creating new opportunities and reconfiguring resources and capabilities to new opportunities in a rapidly changing economic environment determines the competitiveness of the enterprise to create added value and survival. This study conceptualized a two-stage performance measurement framework based on the casual model of resource (input)-process-performance (output). We have developed a 'Process capability index' that reflect the dynamic capabilities factors as a key intermediary product linking resource inputs and performance outputs in enterprise performance measurement. The process capability index consists of four elements : manpower (level of human resource), operation productivity, structure and risk management. The DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model was applied to the developed performance indicators to analyze the branch office performance of a telecom company. Process capability efficiency (stage 1) uses resource inputs to reach a certain level of process capabilities. In performance result efficiency (stage 2), the process capabilities are used to generate sales revenues and subscribers. The two-stage DEA model derives intermediate output values that optimize the individual stages simultaneously. Some branch offices in the telecom company have focused on process capability efficiency or some other branch offices focused on performance result efficiency. Positioning map using two-stage efficiency decomposition and benchmarking can help identify the sources of inefficiencies and visualize strategic directions for performance optimization. Applications of two-stage DEA in conjunction with the case study that are meaningfully used in performance measurement areas have been scarce. In particular, this paper has the contribution to present a new performance measurement model considering the organization theory, the dynamic capabilities.
There have been many studies on chatter vibration in machining but there seems to be no regulations to decide the commencing point of chatter objectively. The development of an objective method which can estimate and detect chatter commencement is very much in need for automatic manufacturing systems, dynamic performance tests for machine tools, so on. In this study, therefore, the estimation and the in-process detection of chatter have been experi- mentally investigated for the turning process. As a result, the commencing point of chatter can be decided from the behavior of the maximum amplitude of the dynamic component of cutting force, where the maximum amplitude is suddenly increasing with the chatter commencement. Then the commencing point of chatter can be estimated practically by this method before the occurrence of excessive vibration. Also, it is possible to detect the occurence of chatter vibration through the in-process measurement, by monitoring the maximum amplitude of the dynamic component of cutting force.
A dynamic simulation study on SCR process in GTL process was carried out in order to find optimum operation conditions for pilot plant operation. Optimum operating conditions for SCR synthesis gas process were determined by changing operation variables such as feed temperature and pressure. It was also assumed that physical properties of reaction medium were governed by RKS (Redlich-Kwong-Soave) equation. The effect of temperature and pressure on synthesis gas process $H_2$/CO ratio were mainly examined. Dynamic simulation results were fed back to feed operation condition for optimizing productivity, especially for appropriate condition to FT (Fischer-Tropsch) synthesis unit.
In-process recognition of the cutting states is one of the very important technologies to increase the reliability of mordern machining process. In this study, practical methods which use the dynamic component of the cutting force are proposed to recognize cutting states (i.e. chip formation, tool wear, surface roughness) in turning process. The signal processing method developed in this study is efficient to measure the maximum amplitude of the dynamic component of cutting force which is closely related to the chip breaking (cut-off frequency : 80-500 Hz) and the approximately natural frequency of cutting tool (5, 000-8, 000 Hz). It can be clarified that the monitoring of the maximum apmlitude in the dynamic component of the cutting force enables the state of chip formation which chips can be easily hancled and the inferiority state of the machined surface to be recognized. The microcomputer in-process tool wear monitor- ing system introduced in this paper can detect the determination of the time to change cutting tool.
This paper presents the influence of the process parameters on the change in dynamic behavior of a lathe turning system. With variation of feed rate, depth of cut, direction of tool motion, cutting speed and tool location along the workpiece, the dynamic characteristics of stable cutting, chatter transition and fully developed chatter regions are demonstrated. The workpiece vibration during machining is continuously measured at different tool locations along the workpiece and quantitatively analyzed. Complex linear behavior due to change of process parameter values as well as fundamental wystem nonlinearity due to change of process configuration indicated by a tool path dependence of the locations of chatter onset and disappearance are described. Finally, the structural characteristics of the turning system which can have large and nonlinear effects on system behavior are presented.
