  • The response of a bridge can be influenced by span length, bridge's surface condition, vehicle's weight, and vehicle's velocity. It is difficult to predict accurate behavior of a bridge. In the current standard of specifications, such dynamic effect is defined by impact factor and prescribed to consider live load as to increase design load by means of multiplying this value by live load. However, it is not well understood because the Impact factor method differs from every country. Dynamic, static and pseudo-staitic field loading tests on PSC-I girder bridges were carried out to find out the dynamic property of the bridge. This paper is aimed to figure out actual dynamic property of the bridge by using field loading test. An empirical method based on impact factor is widely used and also argued. Displacement and strain response measured from the tests was compared with one from the empirical method. The former seems to be reasonable since it can consider actual response of a bridge through field tests.

  • In this study, field measurements were performed to analyze the effects of train types (AREX, AREX Express, KTX, KTX-Sancheon) and train speeds on the dynamic behavior of the direct fixation track structure on Yeongjong grand bridge by bridge type (truss bridge, suspension bridge). Based on field measurement results, the track impact factor and train running stability (coefficient of derailment, Rate of wheel load reduction, lateral displacement of rail head) are compared with domestic and foreign standards and regulations to influence the dynamic behavior of direct fixation track. As a result, the differences in the dynamic behavior of the direct fixation tracks by the type of bridges of Yeongjong bridge are not significant, but it was analyzed that these were more directly affected by the magnitude of the train load. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the reinforcement plan of the direct fixation track structure on Yeongjong grand bridge in consideration of the increase of the track impact factor and dynamic track force.

  • CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most promising candidates for the future automobile transmission because of its continuously variable gear ratio and reduced shift shock. It is also possible to operate the power source at its high efficiency region with CVT. The CVT system consists of thrust plate, driving pulley, belt, driven pulley, and preload spring of output shaft. In this paper, the dynamic modeling of a CVT system is completed to obtain the static performances of CVT system. A simulator is implemented on Matlab(Simulink), which can analyse the static performances of a CVT system. The methods for improving the total efficiency of a motorcycle system are also proposed based on the simulation results. In this study we increase the capacity factor of CVT up to the three times of default specification.

  • A hypothetical accident in the containment vessel of liquid metal reactor could cause a pressure, temperature rise, and a strong aerosol release. The computer codes relating to the modelization of these accident make it necessary to use various input parameter, among which is the dynamic shape factor of aerosols produced. Combustion experiments of sodium spray fire carried out in a closed vessel, which was vertical cylinder made of 1.2m in diameter and 1.8m hight with a volume of 1.7$m^3$. The results of theoretical analysis presented here was compared to data obtained from experiments. The experimental results were summarized as follows. 1) The aerodynamic diameter and geometric diameter of aerosols are decreasing with increasing of injection pressure and injection temperature of sodium 2) The dynamic shape factor of aerosol is proportional to the aerodynamic diameter for a given particle. 3) The correspondence between the aerodynamic diameter and geometric diameter can be as $D_{ae}=0.70 D_{ge}$. 4) Peak pressure rose with increase in pressure and temperature of injection sodium, being more sensitive to the injection pressure than the injection temperature.

  • As the first step to the dynamic stress analysis of structures, transient responses of a Timoshenko beam with variable section subject to impact load are analyzed. According to the various characteristics of impact load, time histories of the transient response of Timoshenko beam with general boundary conditions are obtained and compared with those of one degree of freedom system. Numerical solutions of the governing equations of motion are calculated by adopting the equivalent lumped-mass system and the finite difference method. It is found that the dynamic responses of Timshenko beam depend on the effect of concentration and location of impact load. As a result, increasing tendency of fluctuation in dynamic response, especially in bending moment, is found according to the increase of load concentration factor in time and space.

  • Damping as a material property plays an important role in decreasing dynamic response of structures. However, very little is known about the evaluation and application of the actual damping of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Confined Reinforced Concrete (FRP-C RC) material which is widely adopted in civil engineering at present. This paper first proposes a stress-dependent damping model for FRP-C RC material using a validated Finite Element Model (FEM), then based on this damping-stress relation, an iterative scheme is developed for the computations of the non-linear damping and dynamic response of FRP-C RC columns at any given harmonic exciting frequency. Numerical results show that at resonance, a considerable increase of the loss factor of the FRP-C RC columns effectively reduces the dynamic response of the columns, and the columns with lower concrete strength, FRP volume ratio and axial compression ratio or higher longitudinal reinforcement ratio have stronger damping values, and can relatively reduce the resonant response.

  • The steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of traditional kochujang fermented at three different temperatures (20${^circ}C$, 25${^circ}C$ and 30${^circ}C$) were studied. Flow of kochujang samples showed time dependence, which was quantitatively described by the Weltman model, Kochujang samples were highly shear thinning fluids (n=0.25~0.27) with large magnitudes of Casson yield stresses (1.09~1.21 kPa). Consistency index (K) and apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,20}$) increased with increase in fermentation temperature of kochujang. Storage (G') and loss (G") moduli increased with increase in frequency (ω), while complex viscosity (${\eta}^{\ast}$) decreased. Based on dynamic shear data, kochujang samples exhibit structural properties similar to weak gels. The complex and steady shear viscosities at different fermentation temperatures followed the Cox-Merz superposition rule with the application of the shift factor (a=0.011~0.016).

  • The dynamic loads imposed by moving vehicles have variations in the magnitude due to the surface roughness of the pavement systems and the larger dynamic loads than the design loads may affect the pavement performance. This paper presents variations of the moving dynamic vehicle loads due to the pavement surface roughness. This study was performed as a basic study to apply the pay factor to the surface roughness for the improvement of pavement quality and performance. The profile data was obtained from the old and new pavements and the analysis was performed to investigate the dynamic loads when vehicles move on the pavements having those profiles. The artificial profiles were also developed to find the effects of the vehicle speed, wavelength and amplitude of the surface roughness on the dynamic vehicle loads. The increase in the load magnitude due to the surface roughness affects the stresses and strains of pavements and finally reduces the pavement life. The methodology to obtain the relationship between the surface roughness and the pavement performance was proposed in this study.

  • Brittle materials such as rocks and concretes exhibit large strain-rate dependency under dynamic loading conditions. This means that the mechanical properties of such materials can significantly be varied according to load velocity. Thus, the strain-rate dependency is recognized as one of the most important considerations in solving problems of blast engineering or rock dynamics. Unfortunately, however, studies for characterizing the dynamic properties of domestic rocks and other brittle materials are still insufficient in the country. In this study, dynamic tensile tests were conducted using the Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus to characterize the dynamic properties of Geochang granite and high-strength concrete specimens. The dynamic Brazilian disc test, which is suggested by ISRM, and the spalling method were applied. In general, the latter is believed to have some advantages in experiments under high-strain rate deformation. It was found from the tests that there were no significant difference between the dynamic tensile strengths obtained from the two different test methods for the two materials given. However, this was not the expected result before the tests. Actually, authors expected that there be some differences between them. Hence, it is thought that further investigations are needed to clarify this results.

  • The research focuses on the provincial universities in the western region of China and investigates the research level of 12 provincial universities from 2017 to 2021, considering both static efficiency and dynamic efficiency. The static efficiency is examined using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), while the dynamic efficiency is analyzed using the Malmquist model. The analysis results are as follows: the scientific research efficiency of universities in the 12 western provinces is generally not high. Against the background of the "Double First-Class" construction, the overall efficiency of scientific research in universities is showing an increasing trend. The main reason for the increase in scientific research efficiency is the increase in scale efficiency in recent years. The total factor productivity (TFP) of research activities is influenced by the technology progress index and exhibits a pattern of initial increase, followed by a decline, and then an increase again. Research conclusion: Western colleges and universities should reasonably allocate resources for scientific research activities, perfect scientific research mechanisms, improve management standards, promote scientific innovation and corresponding achievements, and ultimately raise the scientific and technological level in western China.
