In general, inchworm actuators are composed of two clamping piezoelectric elements and one expansion piezoelectric element. In this paper, two electromagnetic clampers are used for higher speed and high load. Dynamic equation is derived to simulate the behavior of the inchworm actuator with electromagnets. Electromagnetic clamper is used to improve the performance of the inchworm actuator. The electromagnetic clamper is composed of two permanent magnets and one traditional electromagnet. The permanent magnets play the role of the source of magnetic field to make clamping force higher, and the electromagnet is to change the mode between clamping and free. The driving voltage profile is also analyzed to improve the speed of inchworm actuator. The real system was manufactured and experimented to find dynamic characteristics and the maximum speed is obtained. Dynamic model is verified by comparing with experimental results.
For the dynamic behavior evaluation of a semi-active vibration control system, it is very important to use an accurate mathematical model for the hydraulic damper applied to the control system. In this study, a mathematical model for a symmetric type hydraulic damper was suggested. In this model, the effects of gas volume and oil temperature variation on the bulk modulus of oil were considered. The dynamic behavior of the damper was investigated by experiments and simulations. It was confirmed that the pressure variation, damping force, and mean pressure variation could be estimated with comparatively good precision by the suggested mathematical model. Moreover, it was shown that excessive pressure rise can be generated by the oil expansion due to the heat energy transformed from the exciting energy of the damper for a short period of the damper operation.
According to the advantageous features of flash memory, its exploitation and application in mobile and ubiquitous related devices as well as voluminous storage devices is being increased rapidly. The inherent properties that are determined by configuration of flash memory unit might restrict the promising expansion in its utilization. In this paper, we study policies based on threshold values, instead of using global search, in order to satisfy our objective that is to decrease the necessary processing cost or penalty for recycling of flash memory space at the same time minimizing the potential degradation of performance. The proposed cleaning methods create partitions of candidate memory regions, to be reclaimed as free, by utilizing global or dynamic threshold values. The impact of the proposed policies is evaluated through a number of experiments, the composition of the optimal configuration featuring the methods is tested through experiments as well.
A lumped mass damped vibratory model was proposed for quantitative understanding of welding machine characteristics. An experimental setup was developed to determine the mechanical parameters (moving mass m, equivalent stiffness k and damping c) which govern the dynamic mechanical response of the resistance spot welding machine. During the test, acceleration of the electrodes for each level of applied load was measured by accelerometer, filtered and numerically integrated to find the corresponding velocity and displacement. The machine dynamic parameters were determined by finding the unknowns of the proposed model with experimental data. A Simulink model was proposed to investigate the influence of these mechanical parameters on the welding process. The electrode response was simulated by changing values of stiffness and damping. It was observed that both of the machine parameters(c, k) have significant effect on the response of electrode head.
A new adaptive dual reciprocity boundary element method for dynamic analysis of 3-D structures is presented in this paper. It is based on finding the best approximation function of a radial basis function (RBF) group $f=r^n+c$ which minimize the error of displacement field expansion. Also, the effects of some parameters such as the existence of internal points, number of RBF functions and position of collocation nodes in discontinuous elements are investigated in this adaptive procedure. Three numerical examples show improvement in dynamic response of structures with adaptive RBF in dual reciprocity with respect to ordinary BEM.

In this study, the dynamic characteristics of Bellows, used for expansion joint, were investigate by F.E.M. Using the axisymmetric conical frustum element, the natural frequencies, modevectors and the parameters governing the dynamic characteristics of Bellows were also investigated. Through the experiment, it was shown that the results calculated by finite element method and measured experimental values were in good agreement.

In case of heat exchangers operating under frosting condition, the thermal resistance and the air-side pressure loss increase with a growth of frost layer. In this paper, a transient characteristic prediction model of the heat transfer for a multi-inverter heat pump with frosting on its surface was presented by taking into account the change of the fin efficiency due to the growth of the frost layer. This dynamic simulation program was developed for a basic air conditioning system composed of an evaporator, a condenser, a compressor, a linear electronic expansion valve, and a bypass circuit. The theoretical model was derived from measured heat transfer and mass transfer coefficients. We also considered that the heat transfer performance was only affected by the decrease of wind flow area. The calculated results were compared with the experimental results for frosting conditions.
Silicon nitride is one of the most successful engineering ceramics, owing to a favorable combination of properties, including high strength, high hardness, low thermal expansion coefficient, and high fracture toughness. However, the impact damage behavior of $Si_3N_4$ ceramics has not been widely characterized. In this study, sphere and explosive indentations were used to characterize the static and dynamic damage behavior of $Si_3N_4$ ceramics with different microstructures. Three grades of $Si_3N_4$ with different grain size and shape, fine-equiaxed, medium, and coarse-elongated, were prepared. In order to observe the subsurface damaged zone, a bonded-interface technique was adopted. Subsurface damage evolution of the specimens was then characterized extensively using optical and electron microscopy. It was found that the damage response depends strongly on the microstructure of the ceramics, particularly on the glassy grain boundary phase. In the case of static indentation, examination of subsurface damage revealed competition between brittle and ductile damage modes. In contrast to static indentation results, dynamic indentation induces a massive subsurface yield zone that contains severe micro-failures. In this study, it is suggested that the weak glassy grain boundary phase plays an important role in the resistance to dynamic fracture.

In this paper, an A/D conversion module was designed and fabricated to improve the dynamic range of wideband digital receivers. The A/D conversion module for expanding the dynamic range converts signals into a digital signal by branching the input signal into the normal path and the amplification path according to the input signal level. Test results of the fabricated module show that the normal path of the A/D conversion module converts an input level of -57 dBm to -12 dBm into a digital signal, and the amplification path converts an input level of -30 dBm to +12 dBm into a digital signal without distortion. This translates to an input dynamic range characteristic of 69 dB. Moreover, it is confirmed that the constant output characteristic is exhibited at an instantaneous bandwidth of 100 MHz.

A driver interacts directly with the car seat at all times. There are ergonomic characteristics that have to be followed to produce comfortable seats. However, most of previous researches focused on either static or dynamic condition only. In addition, research on car seat development is critically lacking although Malaysia herself manufactures its own car. Hence, this paper integrates objective measurements and subjective evaluation to predict seat discomfort. The objective measurements consider both static and dynamic conditions. Steven's psychophysics power law has been used in which after expansion; ${\psi}\;=\;a+b{\varphi}_s^{\alpha}+c{\varphi}_v^{\beta}$ where ${\psi}$ is discomfort sensation, ${\varphi}_s^{\alpha}$ is static modality with exponent ${\alpha}$ and ${\varphi}_v^{\beta}$ is dynamic modality with exponent ${\beta}$. The subjects in this study were local and the cars used were Malaysian made compact car. Static objective measurement was the seat pressure distribution measurement. The experiment was carried out on the driver's seat in a real car with the engine turned off. Meanwhile, the dynamic objective measurement was carried out in a moving car on real roads. During pressure distribution and vibration transmissibility experiments, subjects were requested to evaluate their discomfort levels using vehicle seat discomfort survey questionnaire together with body map diagram. From subjective evaluations, seat pressure and vibration dose values exponent for static modality ${\alpha}$ = 1.51 and exponent for dynamic modality ${\beta}$ = 1.24 were produced. The curves produced from the $E_{q.s}$ showed better $R_{-sq}$ values (99%) when both static and dynamic modalities were considered together as compared to Eq. with single modality only (static or dynamic only R-Sq = 95%). In conclusion, car seat discomfort prediction gives better result when seat development considered both static and dynamic modalities; and using ergonomic approach.
