얼굴 인식을 통한 동적 감정 분류 (Dynamic Emotion Classification through Facial Recognition)

  • Human emotions are expressed in various ways. It can be expressed through language, facial expression and gestures. In particular, the facial expression contains many information about human emotion. These vague human emotion appear not in single emotion, but in combination of various emotion. This paper proposes a emotional expression algorithm using Active Appearance Model(AAM) and Fuzz k- Nearest Neighbor which give facial expression in similar with vague human emotion. Applying Mahalanobis distance on the center class, determine inclusion level between center class and each class. Also following inclusion level, appear intensity of emotion. Our emotion recognition system can recognize a complex emotion using Fuzzy k-NN classifier.

  • For the adaption of roll-to-roll printing method to the printed electronics, it is mandatory to increase the resolution of register errors. Therefore it is desired to derive the mathematical modeling of register error or to develop controller design. The cross direction register error was derived considering both lateral motion of moving web and transverse position of printing roll. The mathematical modeling was validated and the relationship between the lateral motion and register error was analyzed by numerical simulations in various operating conditions using multi-layer direct gravure printing machine. The results could be used for a design of the CD register in the multi-layer printing and the lateral motion caused by translation.

드론 협업 지속을 위한 프레임워크 연구 (Study on Framework for Continuing Drone Collaboration)

  • The drone has the restrictions on the controls, the battery and the surrounding environment in performing missions such as fire extinguishing. This restriction can improve the limitations that leave the leader can be monitored. The existing method of constructing the leader based on the GPS is highly dependent on the signal and is vulnerable to hardware defects. In this paper, we solve these problems with dynamic leaders decision. Drones can use their leader drones rather than remote controls. Information about the drones changes depending on the surrounding environment by replacing the leader with a dead battery or electing leader by the drones themselves without human intervention. This suggests that the leader monitors the community through a framework for continuing the drones collaboration and that the community can collaborate to overcome the limitations and continue the mission. The analysis of the proposed system through simulation experiments confirm that it has a better task performance. By using this system, it is possible to continue the mission and solve problems that are vulnerable to hardware defects.

  • Object detection and tracking have become one of the most active research areas in the past few years, and play an important role in computer vision applications over our daily life. Many tracking techniques are proposed, and Camshift is an effective algorithm for real time dynamic object tracking, which uses only color features, so that the algorithm is sensitive to illumination and some other environmental elements. This paper presents and implements an effective moving object detection and tracking to reduce the influence of illumination interference, which improve the performance of tracking under similar color background. The implemented prototype system recognizes object using invariant features, and reduces the dimension of feature descriptor to rectify the problems. The experimental result shows that that the system is superior to the existing methods in processing time, and maintains better problem ratios in various environments.

  • We reports improved monitoring performance of Self plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (SP-OES) by augmenting a by-pass tube to a conventional straight (or single) tube type self plasma reactor. SP-OES has been used as a tool for the monitoring of plasma chemistry indirectly in plasma process system. The benefits of SP-OES are low cost and easy installation, but some semiconductor industries who adopted commercialized SP-OES product experiencing less sensitivity and slow sensor response. OH out-gas chemistry monitoring was performed to have a direct comparison of a conventional single type tube and a by-pass type tube, and fluid dynamic simulation on the improved hardware design was also followed. It is observed faster pumping out of OH from the chamber in the by-pass type SP-OES.

A Study of the Performance Prediction Models of Mobile Graphics Processing Units

  • Currently mobile services are on the verge of full commercialization ahead of 5G mobile communication (5G). The first goal could be to preempt the 5G market through realistic media services utilizing VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) technologies that users can most easily experience. Basically this movement is based on the advanced development of smart devices and high quality graphics processing computing power of mobile application processors. Accordingly, the importance of mobile GPUs is emerging and the most concern issue becomes a model for predicting the power and performance for smooth operation of high quality mobile contents. In many cases, the performance of mobile GPUs has been introduced in terms of power consumption of mobile GPUs using dynamic voltage and frequency scaling and throttling functions for power consumption and heat management. This paper introduces several studies of mobile GPU performance prediction model with user-friendly methods not like conventional power centric performance prediction models.

  • Based on the capture-emission energy (CEE) maps of CMOS devices, a physics-informed machine learning model for the bias temperature instability (BTI)-induced threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise is presented. In order to incorporate physics theories into the machine learning model, the integration of artificial neural network (IANN) is employed for the computation of the threshold voltage shifts and low frequency noise. The model combines the computational efficiency of IANN with the optimal estimation of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) with soft clustering. It enables full lifetime prediction of BTI under various stress and recovery conditions and provides accurate prediction of the dynamic behavior of the original measured data.

  • The importance of load-to-use latency has been highlighted as state-of-the-art computing cores adopt deep pipelines and high clock frequencies. The cascaded cache was recently proposed to reduce the access cycle of the L1 cache by utilizing differences in latencies among banks of the cache structure. However, this study assumes the cache is comprised of SRAM, making it unsuitable for direct application to non-volatile memory-based systems. This paper proposes a novel mechanism and structure for lowering dynamic energy consumption. It inserts monitoring logic to keep track of swap operations and write counts. If the ratio of swap operations to total write counts surpasses a set threshold, the cache controller skips the swap of cache blocks, which leads to reducing write operations. To validate this approach, experiments are conducted on the non-volatile memory-based cascaded cache. The results show a reduction in write operations by an average of 16.7% with a negligible increase in latencies.

프로세싱 인 메모리 시스템에서의 PolyBench 구동에 대한 동작 성능 및 특성 분석과 고찰 (Performance Analysis and Identifying Characteristics of Processing-in-Memory System with Polyhedral Benchmark Suite)

  • In this paper, we identify performance issues in executing compute kernels from PolyBench, which includes compute kernels that are the core computational units of various data-intensive workloads, such as deep learning and data-intensive applications, on Processing-in-Memory (PIM) devices. Therefore, using our in-house simulator, we measured and compared the various performance metrics of workloads based on traditional out-of-order and in-order processors with Processing-in-Memory-based systems. As a result, the PIM-based system improves performance compared to other computing models due to the short-term data reuse characteristic of computational kernels from PolyBench. However, some kernels perform poorly in PIM-based systems without a multi-layer cache hierarchy due to some kernel's long-term data reuse characteristics. Hence, our evaluation and analysis results suggest that further research should consider dynamic and workload pattern adaptive approaches to overcome performance degradation from computational kernels with long-term data reuse characteristics and hidden data locality.

히스토그램 변형을 이용한 HDR 영상 렌더링을 위한 인지기반 톤 맵핑 기법 (Perception-Based Tone Mapping Technique for Rendering HDR Image Using Histogram Modification)

  • 본 논문에서는 HDR (high dynamic range) 영상 렌더링을 위한 히스토그램 변형 기법을 이용한 인지기반 톤 맵핑(tone mapping) 기법을 제안한다. HDR 톤 맵핑 알고리듬은 넓은 동적 영역을 갖는 영상을 LDR (low dynamic range) 영상 장치에 표현하기 위해 사용된다. 인간의 시각특성을 이용한 톤 맵핑 알고리듬은 상당히 효과적이지만 고정된 형태의 맵핑 함수를 사용하기 때문에 모든 영상에서 동일한 성능을 얻지 못한다. 제안하는 방법은 인지기반 톤 맵핑 함수와 히스토그램 변형기법을 적용하여 HDR 영상의 동적 영역을 압축한다. 인지기반 톤 맵핑 함수를 이용해서 원 영상의 히스토그램을 제한하고 보상과정을 통해서 적응적인 톤 맵핑 함수를 얻을 수 있다. 이는 화소값에 따라 서로 다른 제약조건들을 사용함으로써 contrast를 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라 원 영상의 디테일도 보존한다. 또한, 히스토그램 변형기법을 사용함으로써 과도한 히스토그램 평활화로 인한 왜곡을 개선할 수 있고, 더욱이 제어파라미터를 이용하여 영상의 contrast를 조정할 수 있다. 시뮬레이션 및 실험을 통해 주관적 및 객관적 성능을 비교하고 기존 방법에 비해 제안한 방법이 우수함을 입증한다.
