We have prepared an aqueous dispersion of poly(aniline-dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid complex) (PANI-DC) that has an intrinsic viscosity (〔η〕) near 1.3 dL/g using aniline as a monomer, dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid(DBSA) as a dopant/emulsifier, and ammonium peroxodisulfate(APS) as an oxidant. We found that the electrical conductivity of a PANI-DC pellet was 0.7 S/cm. A waterborne-polyurethane (WBPU) dispersion, obtained from isophorone diisocyanate/polytetramethylene oxide glycol/dimethylol propionic acid/ethylene diamine/triethylene amine, was used as a matrix polymer. We prepared blend films of WBPU/PANI-DC with variable weight ratios (from 99/1 to 66/34) by solution blending/casting and investigated the effects that the PANI-DC content has on the mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties, hardness, electrical conductivity, and antistaticity of these films. The tensile strength, percentage of elongation, and hardness of WBPU/PANI-DC blend films all decreased markedly upon increasing the PANI-DC content. The antistatic half-life time ($\tau$$\sub$$\frac{1}{2}$/) of pure WBPU film was about 110 s, but we found that those of WBPU/ultrasound-treated PANI-DC blend films decreased exponentially from 1.2 s to 0.1 s to almost 0 s upon increasing the PANI-DC content from 1 wt% to 15 wt% to > 15 wt%, respectively.

Computational fluid dynamic simulation based on the ABAQUS software was conducted to observe the inside flow of slot-die nozzle. The slot-die nozzle was modeled as 3-dimensional structure and three significant parameters were determined: inlet velocity of fluid, reservoir angles, number of strips none of which have been mentioned previously in the literature. The design of experiment, full factorial analysis was performed within determined design and process levels. The simulation result shows the inlet fluid velocity is most significant factor for the flows of inside nozzle. As an interaction effect, reservoir angle is closely related with number of strip that should address when the nozzle is designed. Moreover, the optimized values of each determined parameter were obtained as 35 mm/s of inlet velocity, 3 of strip numbers, and $22^{\circ}$ of reservoir angles. Based on these parameters, the outlet velocity was obtained as 0.53% of outlet uniformity which is improved from 8.67% of nominal results.

The floc characteristics of base paper stock for coating by the retention aid system consisting of polyacrylamide (high molecular weight low charge density, HMLC) and PEI without and with anionic inorganic oxide (IO) were investigated under various shear conditions of MDDA (modified dynamic drainage analyzer). The floc size was increased with cationic electrolytes dosage whatever inorganic oxide is applied or not. The effect of inorganic oxide on the floc size showed the different result between PAM and PEI. The smaller floc was obtained by PAM without inorganic oxide, but larger floc was obtained by PAM with inorganic oxide. However, the effect of shear force was not observed. Floc formation index was decreased by the addition of cationic electrolytes with or without inorganic oxide. Floc formation index had better correlation format formation index than floc size. The relationships between wet web permeability and mat air permeability showed the significant linear correlation ($R^2$=0.97~0.98) for HML PAM and PEI. Floc formation index gave more useful information than the retention measurement when the performance of retention aids is evaluated at the laboratory before applying at the paper mill.
2 Components polyurethane coatings are widely used for the industrial coating in general because of its excellent film performance and the workability which were brought by the 3 dimensional cross linked chain structures being formed after the reaction between polyol and polyisocyanate. 2 components polyurethane can be classified into alkyd polyol, polyester polyol, acrylic polyol and polyester modified acrylic polyol depending on where it is used. This research was conducted under the conditions below; different chemical compositions of resin for paint, set the same conditions of viscosity, thinner and acid value, set alternative polyols, OH values and catalysts, set alternative polyisocyanate hardeners of the paint, measure the reaction rates and dynamic mechanical characteristics using RPT-3000, Rotation Rheometer, DMA and FTIR. The research found that the reactivity between polyol and isocyanate influences the film performance and workability depending on the catalysts, OH values and chemical compositions. We find out that different reaction rate of acrylic polyol and polyester modified acrylic polyol with poly-isocyanate is not influenced on temperature and catalyst. In addition, reaction speed of high hydroxyl content polyol is faster than low hydroxyl equivalent. These results can improve difficult working condition to apply urethane coating.
We made 8 wt% silica dispersion system with fumed silica and photo curable acrylic monomer by beads mill process. These dispersions could be applied in organic/inorganic hybrid coating systems. These dispersions could be applied in organic/inorganic hybrid coating systems. The 4 species of photo curable acrylic monomer which was presence of hydroxyl group, different solubility parameter, and different molecular size were used in the silica dispersions. Stability of polar solvent, isopropyl alcohol, in silica dispersions was investigated. We investigated the stability of silica dispersions by using steady-state and dynamic rheology. As the monomer has hydroxyl group increased in mono and binary monomer silica dispersions, they showed non flocculated stable sol (loss modulus (G")> storage modulus (G')). When polar solvent IPA was added into slightly flocculated silica dispersions, they changed to non flocculated stable sol.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is vital for detecting the onset of damage and for preventing catastrophic failure of civil infrastructure systems. In particular, piezoelectric transducers have the ability to excite and actively interrogate structures (e.g., using surface waves) while measuring their response for sensing and damage detection. In fact, piezoelectric transducers such as lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) have been used for various laboratory/field tests and possess significant advantages as compared to visual inspection and vibration-based methods, to name a few. However, PZTs are inherently brittle, and PVDF films do not possess high piezoelectricity, thereby limiting each of these devices to certain specific applications. The objective of this study is to design, characterize, and validate piezoelectric nanocomposites consisting of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles assembled in a PVDF copolymer matrix for sensing and SHM applications. These films provide greater mechanical flexibility as compared to PZTs, yet possess enhanced piezoelectricity as compared to pristine PVDF copolymers. This study started with spin coating dispersed ZnO- and PVDF-TrFE-based solutions to fabricate the piezoelectric nanocomposites. The concentration of ZnO nanoparticles was varied from 0 to 20 wt.% (in 5 % increments) to determine their influence on bulk film piezoelectricity. Second, their electric polarization responses were obtained for quantifying thin film remnant polarization, which is directly correlated to piezoelectricity. Based on these results, the films were poled (at 50 $MV-m^{-1}$) to permanently align their electrical domains and to enhance their bulk film piezoelectricity. Then, a series of hammer impact tests were conducted, and the voltage generated by poled ZnO-based thin films was compared to commercially poled PVDF copolymer thin films. The hammer impact tests showed comparable results between the prototype and commercial samples, and increasing ZnO content provided enhanced piezoelectric performance. Lastly, the films were further validated for sensing using different energy levels of hammer impact, different distances between the impact locations and the film electrodes, and cantilever free vibration testing for dynamic strain sensing.
The charging tendency of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor surface was modified in order to improve discharging characteristic of green cell in an ac-plasma display panel (ac-PDP). The Zinc-silicate ($Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$) green-emitting phosphor was coated with magnesium oxide(MgO), which is viable to have positive charge on the surface. After fabricating the green cell with MgO-coated $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$, the electrical and optical properties in the cell were examined. It was found that the dynamic voltage margin could be increased while the address time was reduced. It may be ascribed to the change of charging tendency of $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor by MgO coating, which makes it possible to stable wall-charge accumulation. When $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor was coated with 1.3wt%-MgO, the address time was reduced 1.2 ${\mu}s$ and the address voltage lowered 25 V without any misfiring problem, compared to those of typical $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor layer. The luminescence intensity of green cell using MgO-coated phosphor layer was also improved by 10%.
Titanium aluminium nitride((TiAl)N) film is anticipated as an advanced coating film with wear resistance used for drills, bites etc. and with corrosion resistance at a high temperature. In this study, (TiAl)N thin films were deposited both at room temperature and at elevated substrate temperatures of 573 to 773 K by using a two-facing-targets type DC sputtering system in a mixture Ar and $N_2$ gases. Atomic compositions of the binary Ti-Al alloy target is Al-rich (25Ti-75Al (atm%)). Process parameters such as precursor volume %, substrate temperature and Ar/$N_2$ gas ratio were optimized. The crystallization processes and phase transformations of (TiAl)N thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The microhardness of (TiAl)N thin films were measured by a dynamic hardness tester. The films obtained with Ar/$N_2$ gas ratio of 1:3 and at 673 K substrate temperature showed the highest microhardness of $H_v$ 810. The crystallized and phase transformations of (TiAl)N thin films were $Ti_2AlN+AlN{\rightarrow}TiN+AlN$ for Ar/$N_2$ gas ratio of 1:3, $Ti_2AlN+AlN{\rightarrow}TiN+AlN{\rightarrow}Ti_2AlN+TiN+AlN$ for Ar/$N_2$ gas ratio of 1:1 and $TiN+AlN{\rightarrow}Ti_2AlN+TiN+AlN{\rightarrow}Ti_2AlN+AlN{\rightarrow}Ti_2AlN+TiN+AlN$ for Ar/$N_2$ gas ratio of 3:1. The above results are discussed in terms of crystallized phases and microhardness.

Rhizobia are well-known for their ability to infect and nodulate legume roots, forming a nitrogen-fixing symbiosis of agricultural importance. In addition, recent studies have shown that rhizobia can colonize roots and aerial plant tissues of rice as a model plant of the Graminaceae family. Here we show that rhizobia can invade tobacco, a model plant belonging to the Solanaceae family. Inoculation of seedling. roots with five GFP-tagged rhizobial species followed by microscopy and viable plating analyses indicated their colonization of the surface and interior of the whole vegetative plant. Blockage of ascending epiphytic migration by coating the hypocotyls with Vaseline showed that the endophytic rhizobia can exit the leaf interior through stomata and colonize the external phyllosphere habitat. These studies indicate rhizobia can colonize both below- and above-ground tissues of tobacco using a dynamic invasion process that involves both epiphytic and endophytic lifestyles.
Objective: This study was designed to identify and explore the pathological patterns of functional dyspepsia (FD) patients. We also evaluated the usefulness of the Pattern Identification Questionnaire by comparing it with other assessment tools for FD. Methods: We recruited 97 FD patients based on the Rome III criteria for FD diagnosis. The pathological patterns of the subjects were determined by the Pattern Identification Questionnaire. Their dyspepsia-related symptoms were assessed using the Gastrointestinal Symptom Questionnaire (GIS) and the Pyeongwi-san (Pingwei-san) Patternization Questionnaire. Depressive symptoms were evaluated with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and quality of life with the Functional Dyspepsia-Related Quality of Life (FD-QoL) Questionnaire. Tongue coating was measured by the Digital Tongue Diagnosis System (DTDS). Results: The male to female ratio was 1:1.1, and the forties and fifties age groups were largest in number. The spleen deficiency and phlegm-dampness pattern was the most common pattern found among the FD patients. No significant differences in the GIS, BDI, FD-QoL, and DTDS scores were found among the five pattern types. All pattern types showed significant correlation with GIS, Pyeongwi-san Patternization Questionnaire, and FD-QoL scores. Conclusions: Pattern Identification Questionnaire can not only identify the pathological pattern types of FD patients but also evaluate the severity of their symptoms. Compared to conventional assessment tools for FD, it could enable a more dynamic evaluation of FD patients reflecting the severity of dyspeptic symptoms and the quality of life. Further studies on the Pattern Identification of FD patients are anticipated in order to improve the diagnosis and therapy for Korean FD patients.
