  • This paper introduces an analysis method to predicting the flow characteristic of flow field around otter board In order to develope a high performance model. In this experiment, it is used a numerical analysis of flow field through CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic), PIV method in which quantitative, qualitative evaluation is possible. In this experiment, it is used PIV method with flow filed image around otter board in order to analysis of flow characteristic. The result compared flow pattern with analysis result through CFD and also measurement result of lift and drag force coefficient carried out in CWC(Circulating Water Channel). The numerical analysis result is matched well with experiment result of PIV in the research and it is able to verify In the physical aspect. The result is as follows ; (1) It was carried out visibility experiment using laser light sheet, and picture analysis through PIV method in order to analysis fluid field of otter-board. As a result, the tendency of qualitative fluid movement only through the fluid particle's flow could be known. (2) Since PIV analysis result is quantitative, this can be seen in velocity vector distributions, instantaneous streamline contour, and average vorticity distributions through various post processing method. As a result, the change of flow field could be confirmed. (3) At angle of attack 24$^{\circ}$ where It Is shown maximum spreading force coefficient, the analysis result of CFD and PIV had very similar flow pattern. In both case, at the otter-board post edge a little boundary layer separation was seen, but, generally they had a good flow (4) As the result of post processing with velocity vector distributions, instantaneous streamline contour and average vorticity distributions by PIV, boundary layer separation phenomenon started to happen from angle of attack 24$^{\circ}$, and from over angle of attack 28$^{\circ}$, it happen at leading edge side with the width enlarged.

  • An arteriovenous fistula is artificially produced using a graft for hemodialysis in patients. In an arteriovenous graft (AVG), the angle of its arterial or venous anastomosis play an important role in producing flows inside blood vessels, through which a stenosis may occur. Most studies thus far have focused on CFD results. In this study, a PIV technique is used to analyze the hemodynamic characteristics at the arterial or venous anastomosis of an AVG having an angle of $30^{\circ}C$. For flow dynamic similarity, the Reynolds number is set to be the same for real and simulated flows. A PIV experiment is performed with a control valve in the arterial part. In conclusion, the recirculation flow appeared in the bifurcation area and the total blood velocity changed according to the extent of valve opening.

  • The sloshing phenomenon can be defined as the nonlinear movement of the free-surface of liquids inside tanks. It generates dynamic loads on the tank structure and thus becomes a problem of relative importance in the design of marine structures. The present study describes a experiment of the sloshing of flows with free-surface which contained in a rectangular tank moving in pitching motion.

  • The characteristics of methanol and methanol blended (M85) sprays were investigated under atmospheric conditions at various temperature, ranging from on-vaporizing to vaporizing ambient conditions (298∼353 K). From laser scattering images, the macroscopic characteristics of the spray, such as the spray tip penetration and the spray angle, were determined. Entropy concept was introduced to represent homogeneity and PIV analysis was adopted to determine the fluid dynamic information at each location of the spray. The correlation between entropy and vorticity strength enabled us to find their relations. The effect of ambient composition, mainly of viscous effect as affected by CO$_2$levels, was investigated using PIV and entropy analysis. Spray width and entropy value were found to tend to decrease at increased CO$_2$levels.

  • A visualization study of flow characteristics in a mixer using multi-nozzle bubbling was performed. The mixer is filled with liquid glycerin (dynamic viscosity = $1000mPa{\cdot}$ s at $25^{\circ}C$) and convective mixing is induced by air bubbles generated from 9 orifices installed on the bottom of the mixer. To visualize the flow field, PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) system consisting of 532nm Nd:YAG laser, $2k\times2k$ CCD camera and synchronizer is adopted. The bubbles generated with uniform size and frequency form bubble stream, and bubble streams rise vertically without interaction between bubble streams. Mixing efficiency is affected by the height of bubbler and the effective height of bubbler is 20mm from the bottom of the mixer.

  • This experiment has been carried out to measure the process of droplet formation between water phase fluid(PVA 3%) and organic phase fluid(oil) and vector fields measured by a Dynamic Micro-PIV method in the inside of a droplet while generated. Droplet length controlled by changing flow rate conditions in microchannel. Water-in-oil(W/O) droplets successfully generated at a Y junction and cross microchannel. But oil-in-water(O/W) droplets could not be formed at a Y junction microchannel. That is, PVA 3% flow could not be detached from the PDMS surface and ran parallel with oil flow. When PVA 3% flow rate was constant, droplet length and time period decreased as oil flow rate increased, but droplet frequency increased. When PVA 3% and oil flow rate ratio was constant, droplet length and time period decreased as flow rate increased, but droplet frequency increased. All that case, Standard deviation of droplet formation have less than 5% at averaged droplet length and regular-sized droplets were reproducibly formed.

  • The turbulent flow with wake, reattachment and recirculation is a very important problem that is related to vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics. The Smagorinsky Model (SM), the Dynamics Subgrid Scale Model (DSM), and the Lagrangian Dynamic Subgrid Scale Model (LDSM) are used to predict the three-dimensional flow field around a bluff body model. The Reynolds number used is 45,000 based on the bulk velocity and the height of the bluff body. The fully developed turbulent flow, which is generated by the driver part, is used for the inlet boundary condition. The Convective boundary condition is imposed on the outlet boundary condition, and the Spalding wall function is used for the wall boundary condition. We compare the results of each model with the results of the PIV measurement. First of all, the LES predicts flow behavior better than the k-$\xi$ turbulence model. When ew compare various LES models, the DSM and the LDSM agree with the PIV experimental data better than the SM in the complex flow, with the separation and the reattachment at the upper front part of th bluff body. But in the rear part of the bluff body, the SM agrees with the PIV experimental results better than them. In this case, the SM predicts overall flow behavior better than the DSM nd the LDSM.

  • Leading edge extension(LEX) in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modem air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present 3-D stereo PIV includes the Identification of 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterion and so on. A delta wing model with or without LEX was immersed in a circulating water channel. Two high-resolution, high-speed digital cameras($1280pixel{\times}1024pixel$) were used to allow the time-resolved animation work. The present dynamic stereo PIV represents the complicated vortex behavior, especially, in terms of time-dependent characteristics of the vortices at given measuring sections. Quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing to make the easy understanding of the LEX effect or vortex emerging and collapse which are important phenomena occurring in the field of delta wing aerodynamics.
