In order to reduce the possibilities of personnel injuries and damages to machines and to obtaim higher efficiency and machining accuracy in the manufacturing system, the chucking technology has recentry become important. The chucking technology of work greatly affects both the grometrical accuracy and fonctional performance of the workpiece. In this study, the dynamic gripping force of a 3-jaw power chuck is investigated on the factors of the shape of jaw and the shape of workpiece. From this investigation, the following observations are obtained. 1) The higher stiffness of workpiece is, the higher decrease of dynamic gripping force is. 2) The nearer to the root of jaw is, the higher decrease of dynamic gripping force is. 3) The centrifugal force of affectting the decrease of dynamic gripping force has to be considered in the centrifugal force of affecting jaw.

A sensorless motion planner which succeeds in grasping a polygonal part firmly into a desired orientation has been developed through the dynamic analysis. The analytical results on the impact process with friction are used for modeling the contact motionduring the parallel-jaw grasp operation, which is com- posed of the pushing and the squeezing process. The developed planner succeeds in grasping a part into a specified orientation in the face of uncertainties of initial position and orientation of the part, motion direction of the finger, and the physical parameters such as the coefficients of friction and restitution. The motion planner has been fully implemented into a viable package on the computer system, and verified experimentally. The motion of parts is recorded using a high-speed video camera, and then compared to the results of the planner and the graphic simulation results that illustrate the simulated motion of the grasp operation.
Speech articulators are coordinated for the purpose of segmental constriction in terms of a task. In particular, vertical jaw movements repeatedly contribute to consonantal as well as vocalic constriction. The current study explores vertical jaw movements in conjunction with bilabial constriction in bilabial stop /p/ in the context /a/-to-/a/. Revisiting kinematic data of /p/ collected using the electromagenetic midsagittal articulometer (EMMA) method from seven (four female and three male) speakers of Seoul Korean, we examined maximum vertical jaw position, its relative timing with respect to the upper and lower lips, and lip aperture minima. The results of those dependent variables are recapitulated in terms of linguistic (different word boundaries) and paralinguistic (different speech rates) factors as follows. Firstly, maximum jaw height was lower in the across-word boundary condition (across-word < within-word), but it did not differ as a function of different speech rates (comfortable = fast). Secondly, more reduction in the lip aperture (LA) gesture occurred in fast rate, while word-boundary effects were absent. Thirdly, jaw raising was still in progress after the lips' positional extrema were achieved in the within-word condition, while the former was completed before the latter in the across-word condition. Lastly, relative temporal lags between the jaw and the lips (UL and LL) were more synchronous in fast rate, compared to comfortable rate. When these results are considered together, it is possible to posit that speakers are not tolerant of lenition to the extent that it is potentially realized as a labial approximant in either word-boundary condition while jaw height still manifested lower jaw position in the across-word boundary condition. Early termination of vertical jaw maxima before vertical lower lip maxima across-word condition may be partly responsible for the spatial reduction of jaw raising movements. This may come about as a consequence of an excessive number of factors (e.g., upper lip height (UH), lower lip height (LH), jaw angle (JA)) for the representation of a vector with two degrees of freedom (x, y) engaged in a gesture-based task (e.g., lip aperture (LA)). In the task-dynamic application toolkit, the jaw angle parameter can be assigned numerical values for greater weight in the across-word boundary condition, which in turn gives rise to lower jaw position. Speech rate-dependent spatial reduction in lip aperture may be able to be resolved by means of manipulating activation time of an active tract variable in the gestural score level.

MDO(Multidisciplinary Design Optimization) methodology is a new technology to solve a complicate design problem with a large number of design variables and constraints. The design of a dental implant system is a typical complicate problem, and so it requires the MDO methodology. Actually, several analyses such as rigid body dynamic analysis and structural stress analysis etc. should be carried out in the MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system. In this paper, as a first step of MDO methodology application to the design of a dental implant system, the impact force which is applied on the tooth in masticating is calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis of upper and lower jaw-bones. This analysis is done using ADAMS. The impact force calculated through the rigid body dynamic analysis can be used for the structural stress analysis of a dental implant system which is needed for the design of a dental implant system. In addition, the rigid body dynamic analysis results also show that the impact time decreases as the impact force increases, the largest impact force occurs on the front tooth, and the impact force is almost normal to the tooth surface with a slight tangential force.

This paper dealt with a pincers-type gripper being able to grip a heavy-weighted cylindrical object having various size with itself. This gripper should be designed to seize the objects without any change of jaw shape. Grasping achieved equilibrium after the object slipped on the jaw while grasping it. To cope with this situation, we suggested the slip considered gripper design procedure based on grasping equilibrium. The obtained slip condition can provide a limit friction coefficient depending on the contact angle when initiating contact between jaw and object. Consequently, the gripping force and the required actuating force can be calculated. In order to verify the proposed slip condition, the simulations were performed using a dynamic software.

Purpose : The goal of this study was to compare and analysis the dose distribution and treatment time between Tomotherapy planning with fixed jaw(FJ) and dynamic jaw(DJ). Materials and Methods : Seven patients were selected in the study including five common clinical cases(brain, head and neck(HN), lung, prostate, spine). 1) Helical Tomotherapy plans with FJ and DJ were generated with the same planning parameters such as Modulation factor, Pitch and Field width. 2) Tomo_edge plans with a larger field width were generated to compare to conventional HT delivery with fixed jaw. Dosimetric evaluation indices for target coverage are Dmin, Conformity index(CI) and for whole body including target are $V_{10%}$, $V_{25%}$, $V_{50%}$, $V_{75%}$ using Dose-volume histogram(DVH). Also, Treatment time and Cumulative MU were used for clinical review on Tomo_edge. Results : In case of using the same field width of Tomotherapy planning with FJ and DJ, the averaged variations were $V_{10%}$: -11.91%, $V_{25%}$: -7.6%, $V_{50%}$ :-4.75%, $V_{75%}$: -1.04%. Tomo_edge with a larger field width provides the averaged variations for target coverage: Dmin: -0.72%, CI: -1.25% and also shows the tendency of a sharp $V_{x%}$ decline in low dose area. The clinical improvements in the larger field width with DJ were observed in the treatment time, ranging from -51.21% to -15.11, and the Cumulative MU decrease, ranging from -57.74% to -15.31%. Conclusion : Target coverage achieved by FJ and DJ with the same field width has little differences. But integral doses on whole body efficiently decreased. Compared to the conventional HT delivery, Tomo_edge with a larger field width presents a little worse target coverage. However, it provides faster treatment delivery and improved cranial-caudal target dose conformity. Therefore, Tomo_edge mode is efficient in improving the treatment time and integral dose while maintaining comparable plan quality in clinic.
Ultrasound sonography(US) is used to evaluate various diseases of maxillofacial region including salivary glands, soft tissue and jaw lesions because of easy accessibility and no hazard of ionizing radiation. Also, US can offer dynamic study showing real-time images during diagnostic or surgical procedure. US images provide accurate information about the internal features of lesions on the jaw prior to surgical treatment. Doppler images are used to visualize the vascular distribution of the lesions and to provide additional information to enhance diagnostic value. Nevertheless, the clinical application of US imaging is limited in the dental field. This is due to the lack of knowledge about the US image and the image characteristics of the anatomical structures. It is necessary to evaluate the diagnostic value of US and evaluate its usefulness by looking at clinical cases using US images. Therefore, US imaging may be recommended as an assistant image in evaluating jaw lesions. US images provided accurate information about the internal structure of lesions on the jaw prior to surgical treatment, and diagnostic value was enhanced by visualizing the vascular distribution of the lesion using doppler imaging.

For clinical implementation of Enhanced Dynamic Wedge (EDW), it is necessary to adequately analyze and commission its dosimetric properties in comparison to common physical metal wedge (MTW). This study was implemented with the essential measurements of parameters for clinical application, such as percentage depth dose, peripheral dose, surface dose, effective wedge factor, and wedge profile. In addition, through the comparison study of EDW with open and MTW, the analysis was performed to characterize the EDW. We also compared EDW dose profiles of measured values using chamber array 24 (CA24) with calculated values using radiation treatment planning system. PDDs of EDW showed good agreements between $0.2\~0.5\%$ of open beam, but $2\%$ differences with MTW. In the result of the measurements of peripheral dose, it was shown that MTW was about $1\%$ higher than open field and EDW. The surface doses of $60^{\circ}$ MTW showed 10% lower than the others. We found that effective wedge factor of EDW had linear relationships according to Y jaw sizes and was independent of X jaw sizes and was independent of X jaw sizes and asymmetric Y jaw opening. In comparison with measured values and calculate values from Golden-STT based radiation treatment planning system (RTP system), it showed very good agreement within difference of $1\%$. It could be concluded that EDW is a very reliable and useful tool as a beam modification substitute for conventional MTW.

Purpose : The wedge filter is the most commonly used beam modifying device during radiation therapy Recently dynamic wedge technique is available through the computer controlled asymmetric collimator, independent jaw. But dosimetric characteristics of dynamic wedge technique is not well known. Therefore we evaluate dosimetric characteristics of dynamic wedge compared to conventional fixed wedge. Materials and Methods : We evaluated dosimetric characteristics of dynamic wedge and fixed wedge by ion chamber, film dosimetry and TLD in phantoms such as water, polystyrene and average breast phantom. Six MV x-ray was used in $15{\times}15cm$ field with 15,30 and 45 degree wedge of dynamic/liked wedge system, Dosimeric characteristics are interpreted by Wellhofer Dosimetrie system WP700/WP700i and contralateral breast dose (CBD) with tangential technique was confirmed by TLD. Results : 1) Percent depth dose through the dynamic wedge technique in tissue equivalent phantom was similar to open field irradiation and there was no beam hardening effect compared to fixed wedge technique. 2) Isodose line composing wedge angle of dynamic wedge is more straight than hard wedge. And dynamic wedge technique was able to make any wedge angle on any depth and field size. 3) The contralateral breast dose in primary breast irradiation was reduced by dynamic wedge technique compared to fixed wedge. When the dynamic wedge technique was applied, the scatter dose was similar to that of open field irradiation. Conclusion : The dynamic wedge technique was superior to fixed wedge technique in dosimetric characteristics and may be more useful in the future.
