Dynamic Characteristics of Droplet Impinging on Multi-layer Texture Surfaces (이중으로 텍스쳐 된 표면에 충돌하는 액적의 동적 특성)

  • This study presents the dynamic characteristics of an impinging droplet on hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces with various texture area fractions. The flat surface was fabricated by using the drilling technique to make micro-meter hole-patterned surfaces, which shows hydrophobic textured surfaces. Moreover, the hydrophilic textured surfaces were manufactured by anodizing technique on the micro-meter hole-patterned surfaces to generate multi-layer surfaces. Impinging droplet experiments were conducted for various hole-patterned surfaces, with changing impact velocity and texture area fractions. It is observed that an anodizing technique increases wettability by decrease in hole diameter on the textured surfaces. However, micro-drilled surfaces decreases wettability because the hole diameter was so large that air can be trapped under the holes. In addition, the maximum spreading diameter decreases with the texture area fraction for the micro-drilled surfaces because of decrease in wettability.

  • To retrieve Sea Surface Temperature(SST) from NOAA-AVHRR imagery the spilt window atmospheric correction algorithm is generally used. Recently, there have been various new algorithms developed to process these data, namely the variable-coefficient split-window, the R54 transmittance-ratio method, fixed-coefficient nonlinear algorithm, dynamic water vapour (DWV) correction method, Dynamic Water Vapour and Temperature algorithm (DWVT). We used MCSST (Multi-Channel Sea surface temperature) and NLSST(Non linear sea surface temperature) algorithms in this study. The study area is around the Korea sea area (Yellow Sea). We compared and analyzed with various methods by applying each Ocean in-situ data and satellite data. The primary aim of study is to verify and optimize algorithms. Finally, this study proposes an optimized algorithm for SST retrieval.

  • In this research, we determine the proper number of entrances in the evacuation facilities for civil and military personnel. The current standards on the emergency evacuation facility only sets the number of possible evacuees and the according architectural floor area since the evacuation have been completed. However, other than static standards such as the floor area, there is needs to consider the dynamic standards along with allowable evacuation time such as the number of entrance, staircases and so on. Therefore, we need to consider the number of entrances and their location in order to account for the allowed evacuation time of particular number of people in a set area. The outcome could be contributed to the standards which should contain the dynamic conditions associated with evacuation.

The Threat List Acquisition Method in an Engagement Area using the Support Vector Machines (SVM을 이용한 교전영역 내 위협목록 획득방법)

  • This paper presents a threat list acquisition method in an engagement area using the support vector machines (SVM). The proposed method consists of track creation, track estimation, track feature extraction, and threat list classification. To classify the threat track robustly, dynamic track estimation and pattern recognition algorithms are used. Dynamic tracks are estimated accurately by approximating a track movement using position, velocity and time. After track estimation, track features are extracted from the track information, and used to classify threat list. Experimental results showed that the threat list acquisition method in the engagement area achieved about 95 % accuracy rate for whole test tracks when using the SVM classifier. In case of improving the real-time process through further studies, it can be expected to apply the fire control systems.

Dynamic Stiffness and Frequency Response Analysis for the Development of Magnesium Oil Pans (마그네슘 합금 오일팬 개발을 위한 동적 강성 및 주파수 응답 해석)

  • The oil pan is an important factor for the noise behavior of the engine system. In this paper a new Magnesium oil pan was designed and analyzed to replace the current Aluminium oil pan. Dynamic stiffness and sound pressure level of the newly designed Mg oil pan were compared with the AI oil pan using the finite element method. NVH characteristics of the Mg oil pan is slightly insufficient when we changed the material of the oil pan from Al to Mg without modifying the design. Some design modifications of the Mg oil pan resulted in equal or superior characteristics compared to the Al oil pan. New ribs were added to stiffen the structure of the Mg oil pan. Thickness of thin plate area was increased to reduce the radiated noise. Through the changes of shape, higher dynamic stiffness than the current Al oil pan were achieved. Results of frequency response analysis show that we can reduce the sound pressure level of the oil pan if we increase the thickness of the thin plate area. It is shown that the new Mg oil pan could reduce the weight of the engine system and improve NVH quality of an automobile.

Hence, semi -empirical method that using on the basis of experimental data about undefined information (properities of vibration source, dynamic properities of structure, etc.,) for prediction of vibration response make the use of dynamic structure design of semiconductor & TFT-LCD in the inside and outside country. Like this, for doing an optimal design of dynamic about structure, it is best important to get trust data that apply to semi-empirical method that is method of prediction vibration level. In this paper, on the basis of experimental data which was offered by a manufacturing company Of precisin equipment that plan to set up in semiconductor factory, we predicted vibration response on expected area that equipment be set up.

Effects of Eight-week Pilates Training on Elderly People's Dynamic and Static Balance Abilities

  • PURPOSE: Improving elderly people's balance ability through pilates which may be easily applied in ordinary life is considered an important intervention method for elderly people. Therefore, this study examines the effects of pilates training on elderly people's static and dynamic balance abilities and provides clinical data to improve this ability. METHODS: The pilates program was applied to 19 elderly subjects three times per week for 8 weeks. Their training level took into consideration their age and was set so that the rating scales of perceived exertion became 13 to 14. Prior to the initiation of the experiment, the subjects had an adaptation period in order to practice the order and motions of pilates. After the adaptation period, the subjects received training. The program was conducted three times per week, for eight weeks. Their dynamic balance ability was observed through the timed up and go (TUG) test and tandem walk test (TWT), and their static balance ability was evaluated by the center of pressure (COP) area, medial-lateral displacement, and anterior-posterior displacement. RESULTS: The results of the TUG test and TWT and evaluations of the COP area and medial-lateral displacement were significantly different after the pilates exercise program compared to those before the program began. CONCLUSION: The results show that an 8-week pilates exercise program is an effective method to increase elderly people's static and dynamic balance abilities. In addition, the application result of the pilates exercise program will provide useful information for future research on elderly people's balance ability.

Prediction of the Dynamic Characteristics of a Bolt-Joint Plates According to Bolting Conditions (볼트 체결 조건에 따른 두 판재의 동적 특성 예측)

  • General systems have many substructures assembled at joints. The bolted joint is generally used in assembling the mechanical parts. However, there are no effective modeling methods to analyze the dynamic characteristics of bolt jointed structure using the finite element (FE) analysis, especially in case of large area contact. Moreover, the design methods for the appropriate bolt locations and the number of bolts considering the dynamic characteristics are not guided properly. In this study, a proper modeling method is developed to simulate the dynamic characteristics of a structure with the large interfaced area using the cone frusta method and spring elements. The natural frequencies are also controlled by adjusting the bolt-joint location and the number of bolts considering relative distances in mode shapes at the interface of bolt-jointed plates. The Modeling method and the optimized design method are verified based on the experimental and the FE analysis results.

Fractionated Volatile Flavor Components of Soybean Paste by Dynamic Headspace Method (Dynamic Headspace법에 의한 분획별 된장의 향기 성분)

  • The volatile compounds of soybean pastes(home made soondoenjang, commercial doenjang) were classified into basic, acidic and neutral fractions by dynamic headspace method. The fractionated flavor isolates were analyzed and identified by gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Each peak area of the flavor components was quantified at its ratio to the peak area of internal standard. Sixty one compounds from home made soondoenjang, and forty three compounds from commercial doenjang were identified. The different distribution of volatile compounds between the two soybean paste samples was observed. Ten pyrazines and benzothiazole were identified in the basic fraction of home made soondoenjang. On the other hand, trimethylpyrazine was the only one of nitrogen containing compounds in the commercial doenjang, which was made from soybean(28.3%), wheat(22.2%) and alcohols. The factors which influenced the levels of these identified compounds were considered to be the starting materials of soybean paste. Alcohols, esters and aldehydes in the neutral fraction of both samples were seemed to be characterisitic soybean paste flavor and showed much higher quantities than those of the basic or acidic fractions. Furfural in the commercial doenjang was the highest content (45.28ppm) among all of the compounds identified in the samples.

Reliability-based assessment of high-speed railway subgrade defect

  • In this paper, a dynamic response mapping model of the wheel-rail system is established by using the support vector regression (SVR) method, and the hierarchical safety thresholds of the subgrade void are proposed based on the reliability theory. Firstly, the vehicle-track coupling dynamic model considering the subgrade void is constructed. Secondly, the subgrade void area, the subgrade compaction index K30 and the fastener stiffness are selected as random variables, and the mapping model between these three random parameters and the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system is built by using the orthogonal test and the SVR. The sensitivity analysis is carried out by the range analysis method. Finally, the hierarchical safety thresholds for the subgrade void are proposed. The results show that the subgrade void has the most significant influence on the carbody vertical acceleration, the rail vertical displacement, the vertical displacement and the slab tensile stress. From the range analysis, the subgrade void area has the largest effect on the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system, followed by the fastener stiffness and the subgrade compaction index K30. The recommended safety thresholds for the subgrade void of level I, II and III are 4.01㎡, 6.81㎡ and 9.79㎡, respectively.
