Simulation-based Network Vulnerability Analysis Using the SIMVA (SIMVA를 이용한 시뮬레이션 기반의 네트워크 취약성 분석)

  • The major objective of this paper is to analyze network vulnerabilities using the SIMVA (SIMualtion-based Vulnerability Analyzer). SIMVA is capable of monitor network status and analyze vulnerabilities automatically. To do this, we have employed the advanced modeling and simulation concepts such as SES/MB (System Entity Structure / Model Base) framework, DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism, and experimental frame for developing network security models and simulation-based analysis of vulnerability. SIMVA can analyze static vulnerability as well as dynamic vulnerability consistently and quantitatively. In this paper, we verified and tested the capability of application of SIMVA by slammer worm attack scenario.

Recycling of In-site waste soil material to fill a hollow between PHC pile and Earthen wall

  • This study evaluated the recycling potential of in-site waste soil as pile back filling material (PBFM). We performed experiments to check workability, segregation resistance, bond strength, direct shear stress test, and dynamic load test using in-site waste soil in coastal areas. We found that PBFM showed better performance than general cement paste in terms of workability, segregation resistance, and bond strength. On the other hand, the structural performance of PBFM was slightly lower than that of general cement paste due to the skin friction force of pile by Pile Driving Analyzer and direct shear stress. However, because this type of performance degradation in terms of structure can be improved through the use of piles with larger diameter or by changing the type of pile, considering the economics and environment, we considered that recycling of PBFM has sufficient value.

  • Polymeric composite structures used in ground transportation applications such as the carbody of tilting train may be exposed to a ground environmental conditions during long-term missions. In this study, the degradation of mechanical and physical properties of graphite/epoxy composite and glass fabric/phenol composite under ground environmental conditions was investigated. Accelerated environmental conditions of ultraviolet radiation, temperature, and moisture were considered. Several types of specimens were used to investigate the effects of environmental conditions on mechanical properties of the composites. Also, storage shear modulus, loss shear modulus, and tan 8 were measured as a function of exposure times through a dynamic mechanical analyzer. Finally, composite surfaces exposed to environmental conditions were examined using a scanning electron microscope.

  • An experimental and numerical study of a spray flow is performed to investigate the spray characteristics using an air-assisted atomizer. A Partical Dynamic Analyzer(PDA) is used to measure SMD, dmp velocity, and drop number density whose the initial conditions have considerable effect on the numerical results. The measured experimental data have been used to asses the accuracy of model predictions. Numerical investigation is made with the Eulerian - Lagrangian formulism. Turbulent dispersion effects using a Monte-Carlo method, turbulent modulation effect and entrainment of air are also numerically simulated. Results show that the numerical predictions of SSF(Stochastic Separated Flow) analysis yielded reasonable agreement with the experimental data. However, the model calculations for small drops produced the inconsistent numerical results due to the effect of surrounding air entrainment.

  • A series of Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers was prepared via a two-step polymerization process. The NCO/OH feed ratio of polyurethane synthesized in this study was varied from 1 to 1.3. Studies have been made on the effects of chemical and physical cross-linkina, and the properties of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers based on isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI)/1,4-butanediol (BD)/poly(propylene glycol) (PPG, MW:2000), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI)/BD /poly(oxytetramethylene) glycol (PTMG, MW:2000) was compared. These materials were characterized using FTIR spectrometer, dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer, and tensile retraction tester. PTMG based polyurethane elastomers showed higher elasomeric behavior than PPG based polyurethane elastomers at the same NCO/OH ratio. This feature has been connected with the specific nature of the polyols. The permanent set(%) was decreased with increasing maximum elongation from 50% to 300%.

  • The frequency characteristics of the optical pickup are investigated indirectly from the bode diagram of the open loop system and the actuator. However, there is necessity of acquiring the optical pickup bode diagram in a view of the differences in the frequency characteristics. One of the differences is that bode diagrams of the optical pickup are differ to that of the actuator and the other is that bode diagrams of the open loop system include controller, gains and filters. So this paper presents the method acquiring the optical pickup bode diagram. In addition, usefulness of the optical pickup bode diagram was demonstrated by being applied to the optical pickup design. The reason of reducing the development period and acquiring the frequency characteristics of the optical system, the optical pickup bode diagram has many merits in the optical pickup design before acquiring the stable bode diagram of the open loop system.

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a continuous circular cylindrical shell multi-simply supported at arbitrary axial positions for searching design parameters. In this modal test the impulse test method is applied to the excitation of experimental model. Natural frequencies are obtained from the peak points of frequency response function(FRF) through frequency analyzer and vibration behaviors are investigated. FE analysis is performed with ANSYS 5.5 to improve the reliability of experimental results. Their results are compared with experimental results. The effect of dynamic characteristics is analyzed for the number of support point on the shell.

Application of Scaling Theories to Estimate Particle Aggregation in a Colloidal Suspension

  • Average aggregate size in particulate suspensions is estimated with scaling theories based on fractal concept and elasticity of colloidal gel. The scaling theories are used to determine structure parameters of the aggregates, i.e., fractal dimension and power-law exponent for aggregate size reduction with shear stress using scaling behavior of elastic modulus and shear yield stress as a function of particle concentration. The structure parameters are utilized to predict aggregate size which varies with shear stress through rheological modeling. Experimentally rheological measurement is conducted for aqueous suspension of zinc oxide particles with average diameter of 110 nm. The predicted aggregate size is about 1135 nm at 1 s-1 and 739 nm at 1000 s-1 on the average over the particle concentrations. It has been found that the predicted aggregate size near 0.1 s-1 agrees with that the measured one by a dynamic light scattering analyzer operated un-sheared.

A study on power improvement emission characteristics of marine diesel engine with response power 200HP turbocharger (대응출력 200마력 과급기에 의한 디젤기관의 출력향상 및 배출특성에 관한 연구)

  • To improve efficiency of diesel engine which requests high output recently and is used all kinds of industrial areas, this thesis experimented dynamic characteristics and exhaust gas characteristics of diesel engine installed by supercharger of correspondent output 200HP and natural inhalation diesel engine through the dynamometer and exhaust gas analyzer in same condition. As the result of experiment with natural inhalation diesel engine and diesel engine installed by supercharger, there were a few differences of output, but dynamic characteristics at high speed showed increased output and efficiency of the engine installed by supercharger. On the contrary, in exhaust gas characteristics, the model installed by supercharger showed increased exhaust gas such as $NO_X$, $O_2$, etc, but added value of exhaust gas is low if considering $CO_2$ reduction and efficiency of dynamic characteristic's increase. Based on the results, diesel engine installed by supercharger is expected to show higher economic feasibility than natural inhalation diesel than natural inhalation engine from an angle of efficiency.   • There are several methods for malware analyses. However, it is difficult to detect malware exactly with existing detection methods. Especially, malware with strong anti-debugging facilities can detect analyzer and disturb their analyses. Furthermore, it takes too much time to analyze malware. In order to resolve these problems of current analyzers, more improved analysis scheme is required. This paper suggests a dynamic binary instrumentation which supports the instruction analysis and the memory access tracing. Additionally, by supporting the API call tracing with the DLL loading analysis, our system establishes the foundation for analyzing various executable codes. Based on Xen, full-virtualization environment is built using Intel's VT technology. Windows XP can be used as a guest. We analyze representative malware using several functions of our system, and show the accuracy and efficiency enhancements in binary analyses capability of our system.
