중성자방사화분석법을 이용한 대기분진중의 미량원소 비교분석 (Intercomparison and Determination of Trace Elements in Urban Dust by Neutron Activation Analysis)

  • 대기환경시료인 도시분진시료와 인공적으로 준비한 휠터상 도시분진시료중의 미량원소를 중성자방사화분석법을 사용하여 비파괴 분석하였다. 분석정도관리를 위하여 미국 표준기술원의 인증표준시료 (Urban Dust, NIST SRM 1648)를 이용하였다. 37종의 검출된 원소의 상대오차와 상대 표준편차를 계산하였으며 각각 10%와 15%이내이었다. 도시분진시료로부터 29종의 원소, 휠터상 도시분진시료로부터 21종의 원소를 정량하였다. 측정결과의 신뢰도 및 숙련도 평가를 위하여, 중성자방사화분석법, 하전입자유도 X-선방출분광법, X-선 형광분석법과 원자흡수분광법을 이용한 세계 39개 실험실이 참여한 실험실간 비교시험에 참여하였으며 수집된 결과를 통계처리하였다. 평균값과 표준편차로 계산한 z-score는 몇개의 원소를 제외하고 모두 -1

Merging Features and Optical-NIR Color Gradient of Early-type Galaxies

  • It has been suggested that merging plays an important role in the formation and the evolution of early-type galaxies (ETGs). Optical-NIR color gradients of ETGs in high density environments are found to be less steep than those of ETGs in low density environments, hinting frequent merger activities in ETGs in high density environments. In order to examine if the flat color gradients are the result of dry mergers, we studied the relations between merging features, color gradient, and environments of 281 low redshift ETGs selected from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe82. The sample contains 222 relaxed ETGs, 38 ETGs with tidal features, 10 galaxies with dust features and 11 galaxies with tidal and dust features, and Near Infrared (NIR) images are taken from UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Large Area Survey (LAS). We find that r-K color gradients of field sample galaxies are steeper than those of sample ETGs within cluster environments. For the field sample galaxies, a relatively large number of galaxies with peculiar features contribute to the steeper color gradients, while the absence of these peculiar early-type galaxies make color gradients of the cluster sample galaxies intact. In high density environment, ETGs are already evolved and relaxed, resulting flat color gradients. However, in low density environments, a majority of ETGs undergone merging recently which makes the color gradients steep.

A NEW CATALOG OF SILICATE CARBON STARS

  • A silicate carbon star is a carbon star which shows circumstellar silicate dust features. We collect a sample of 44 silicate carbon stars from the literature and investigate the validity of the classification. For some objects, it is uncertain whether the central star is a carbon star. We confirm that 29 objects are verified silicate carbon stars. We classify the confirmed objects into three subclasses based on the evolution phase of the central star. To investigate the effect of the chemical transition phase from O to C, we use the radiative transfer models for the detached silicate dust shells. The spectral energy distributions and the infrared two-color diagrams of the silicate carbon stars are compared with the theoretical model results. For the chemical transition model without considering the effect of a disk, we find that the life time of the silicate feature is about 50 to 400 years depending on the initial dust optical depth.

Nuclear power in jeopardy: The negative relationships between greenhouse gas/fine dust concerns and nuclear power acceptance in South Korea

  • South Korea, a country that built a world-class nuclear power infrastructure, shifted to a nuclear phaseout during the previous government's reign. This shift was pursued as part of a larger task of electricity mix reform, and one of the integral motives for such reform is addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) and fine dust problems. Thus, verifying the relationships between the public's concerns about GHG/fine dust and their acceptance of nuclear power generation is essential for designing public communication strategies to revive nuclear power under the ongoing environmental regime. Our analysis using a nationwide survey sample of South Korea (N = 1009, through proportionated quota sampling method) showed that the more people are concerned about GHG and fine dust, the less they accept nuclear power. These relationships held even after controlling for the effect of a third variable-energy-related environmentalism. This finding means that despite past communication efforts positioning nuclear power as a generation source that can mitigate GHG/fine dust emissions and the widely accepted scientific evidence that supports such positioning, nuclear power in Korea is in jeopardy. Our finding provides implications for public communications and fundamental knowledge for research on the determinants of nuclear power acceptance.

일부 요업사업장의 분진, 결정형 유리규산 및 납의 폭로에 관한 연구 (A Study on Work's Exposure to Dust, Crystalline Free Silica and Lead in Ceramic Industry)

  • In some ceramic industries, worker exposure to dust, crystalline free silica and lead were determined and evaluated. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Crystalline silica in bulk samples was 10.5 % in sanitary ware industry, 9.4 % in tile industry, and 2.1 % in ceramic insulator industry respectively. The free silica content of air filter sample was 8.03 % in table ware industry, 5.59 % in sanitary ware industry, and 1.32 % in ceramic insulator industry. Because silica content in ceramic dust is relatively high, it is should be considered silica as important factor in evaluating for ceramic industry. 2. The silica contents in dust from tile, sanitary ware and table ware industries are above 5%, it should be classified as "Type" 2 dust. 3. The airborne concentration of respirable crystalline silica was $27.9{\mu}g/m^3$ in a sanitary ware factory and $5.8{\mu}g/m^3$ in a ceramic insualtor factory. Three of ten samples sampled the above factories were exceeded the occupational exposure levels, $100{\mu}g/m^3$. 4. Geometric mean(GM) of total dust in 11 factories was $1.00mg/m^3$ and GM of respirable dust concentration in 5 factories was $0.33mg/m^3$. Sanitary ware industry had the highest concentration of total dust, $1.62mg/m^3$ and of respirable dust, $0.88mg/m^3$. 5. Average lead concentration in air was $0.05mg/m^3$ in glazing process of 2 factories manufacturing table ware. Five of ten sample(50%) were exceeded $0.05mg/m^3$. Therefore lead exposure in pottery industry should be considered as important problem.

화력발전소의 회처리장 내 비산먼지 저감을 위한 화학적 먼지억제제 적용 연구 (Application of Chemical Dust Suppressants for Control of Fugitive Dust in Ash pond of Thermal Power Plant)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate efficiencies of chemical suppressants for control of fugitive dust in ash pond of thermal power plant. In this study, $MgCl_2$, PAM (polyacrylamide), and PVA (poly vinyl alcohol) that are generally applied to suppression of fugitive dust generated from unpaved road, coal mining, storage piles and etc, were employed as chemical dust suppressants. The coal ash (coal combustion residuals) were sampled from the ash pond of Yeongheung power division in Incheon, South Korea. The characterization of the sample including particle size distribution, pH, $pH_{PZC}$ and pore volume as well as XRF analysis were carried out. The suppressant treated-samples were investigated with the wind tunnel experiments to estimate and compare the effect of suppressants on stabilization of the surface of coal ash samples. According to the results, the stability of suppressant-treated samples were significantly improved compared to water-treated samples. Among the three kinds of suppressants, PAM and PVA showed higher efficiencies and cost saving than $MgCl_2$.

Cadmium pentachlorophenolxanthate의 합성 및 살균작용에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Synthesis and Fungicidal Activity of Cadmium Pentachlorophenolxanthate)

  • 1. 수도용 비수은계 살균제의 개발을 위해 PCP와 $CS_2$ 및 NaOH를 가지고 sodium pentachlorophenolxanthatethate를 합성하고 이에다 $CdCl_2$를 작용시켜 cadmium pentachlorphenolxanthate(Cd-PCP-xanthate)를 항성 하였다. 2. 시료 I, II, III, IV 및 V를 합성하여 화학분석 한 결과 시료 V가 가장 순도가 높았으며, 이의 분석치는 Cd-PCP-xanthate와 Cd-PCP가 약 $50\%$씩 함유된 것과 동일하다. 3. 시료 V를 가지고$ 50\%$ 수화제, $1.5\%$$1\%$ 분제를 조제하였다. 4. 살균효과시험은 수도의 깨씨무늬병균과 도열병균에 대하여 분생포자 발아 억제시험 및 균사신장억제 시험을 한 결과 포자발아억제효과는 10∼20ppm에서 유효하였고 균사억제효과는 $1.5\%$ 분제 30초 부착구에서 Ceresan 석회와 비슷한 결과를 보였다. 5. 수도에 대한 약해 시험결과는 약해를 볼 수없었다.

돈분 퇴비화 공정에서 석고 및 석탄회의 첨가효과 (Effect of Adding Gypsum and Coal Fly Ash on Composting Process of Pig Manure)

  • 이 연구는 돈분, 석고와 석탄화를 혼합물을 퇴비화한 것이다. 실험에 사용한 A 시료(PM : SD = 6 : 4)와 C 시료(PM : SD : GS : CFA = 6 : 2 : 1 : 1)를 사용하여 퇴비화 실험결과 A, C 시료의 초기 수분함량은 64, 50%이었고 온도, pH에서도 A시료와 비교했을 때 큰 차이는 없었으나 A,C 시료의 최종 TOC는 약 5550, 2900 mg/kg 이었다. 양이온 교환능은 A, C시료와는 크게 차이는 없었으나 CEC값으로 보아 숙성에 더 많은 시간이 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 석고와 석탄회 첨가는 돈분 퇴비화 과정에서 첨가제로서의 역할이 있음을 알 수 있었다.
