  • In terms of electrical safety, environmental impact assessment and revision of domestic regulation are needed for the electric facilities. In this paper, risk of electric facilities is assessed by the spot measures and analysis in dust generation area. Adhesion dust in a surface of insulated materials cause electrical accidents. In a mechanism of these accidents, when the dust lie on electric facilities, a leakage current is flowed and the surface of insulated material is carbonized. Hereafter, electrical fire is generated due to Joule's heat. As the results, dusts are found in protection devices or panel board and sampled dusts vary in sampled amounts and conductivity severally. For the most part, sodium is detected but zinc and calcium are detected in case of reclaimed rubber factory by the ICP-AES(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy). In a sewerage, the ingredients such as sodium, magnesium, iron, calcium, aluminium, etc are detected uniformly. So that, results of the spot measures and analysis of dusts are become the important data for the assessment of electrical hazard in dust generation area.

  • Solar energy has been known as a successful alternative energy source, however it requires a large area to build power generation facilities compared to other energy sources such as nuclear power. Weather factors such as rainy weather or night time impact on solar power generation because of lack of insolation and sunshine. In addition, solar power generation is vulnerable to external elements such as changes in temperature and fine dust. There are four seasons in the Republic of Korea hereby variations of temperature, insolation and sunshine are broad. Currently factors that cause find dust are continuously flowing in to Korea from abroad. In order to build a solar power plant, a large area is required for a limited domestic land hereby selecting the optimal location for the plant that maximizes the efficiency of power generation is necessary. Therefore, this research analyze the optimal site for solar power generation plant by implementing analytic hierarchy process based on weather factors such as fine dust. In order to extract weather factors that impact on solar power generation, this work conducts a case study which includes a correlation analysis between weather information and power generation.

  • A study on fugitive dust dispersion was conducted at Saemanguem reclaimed area located at the west coastal area of Jeon-buk Province Total reclaimed area is 40,100ha developed by building a 33km long sea dike through Gunsan, Gimje, and Buan. (Land: 28,300ha, Fresh Water Lake: 11,800ha) After this area was completely reclaimed in 2006, there has been high possibility of dust generation and dispersion to the neighboring area. The dust generated at the reclaimed land was composed mainly of minerals with high salinity, and it could make harmful effect on crop production as well on to human's health such as eye irritation and respiratory disease. Especially, when those aerosol particles are reached on the leaves of farm crops, the photosynthesis and respiration of the plants can be under restraint resulting in the decrease of agricultural productivity of the nearby farm areas. Furthermore, highly concentrated salty particles can directly damage the leaf cells. In this study, field experiment has been conducted to regularly measure the locally suspended dust particles and analyze how they were dispersed to the neighboring areas. The collected dust particles were analyzed to examine theirs sizes, concentrations, and components. The SPSS statistical program was also used to separate the dust concentration generated by the reclaimed land from the total dust concentration measured at the measuring locations.

  • Fugitive dust, which is emitted in the ambient air without first passing through a stack or duct designed to control flow, is frequently generated by means of wind erosion from storage yards at Pohang Steel Wokrs. The size distribution of fugitive dust is mostly in the range of coarse particulate which is deposited as soon as emitted and less harm to human health; however $20\%$ of fugitive dust contains PM 10 known as one of most harmful airborne pollutant. Consequently, effective control and reduction of fugitive dust is strongly requested by the local society, but it is not easy so far because the generation and dispersion of fugitive dust highly depends on meteorological conditions, and it being occurred for irregularity. This research presented a fugitive dust control system for each meteorological condition by providing statistical prediction data obtained from a statistical analysis on the probability of generating the threshold velocity at which the fugitive dust begins to occur, and the frequency occurring by season and by time of the wind direction that can generate atmospheric pollution when the dispersed dust spreads to adjacent residential areas. The research also built a fugitive dust detection system which monitors the weather conditions surrounding storage yards and the changes in air quality on a real-time basis and issues a warning message by identifying a situation where the fugitive dust disperses outside the site boundary line so that appropriate measures can be taken on a timely basis. Furthermore, in respect to the spraying of water to prevent the generation of fugitive dust from the storage piles at the storage yard, an advanced statistical meteorological analysis on the weather conditions in Pohang area and a case study of fugitive dust dispersion toward outside of working field during $2002\∼2003$ were carried out in order to decide an optimal water-spraying time and the number of spraying that can prevent the origin of fugitive dust emission. The results of this research are expected to create extremely significant effects in improving surrounding environment through actual reduction of the fugitive dust produced from the storage yard of Pohang Steel Works by providing a high-tech warning system capable of constantly monitoring the leakage of fugitive dust and water-spray guidance that can maximize the water-spraying effects.

  • This research was aimed to figure out the trend of dust diffusion at open pit limestone mine for assessing the environmental impacts on the high voltage power transmission line. It is rather easy to assess the dust generation and size distribution of limestone dust at the blasting site, but it is very hard to assess the expected area of dust diffusion and amount of dust fall by the distances from the dust source. In this research, a 3-dimensional fluid dynamic simulation software (3D-Flow) was used for analysing the above mentioned matters to assess the impacts to the insulators on the transmission tower by the blasting dust. It was verfied that the 3D-Flow is reliable tool for simulating dust movement, and the limestone dust is not much hazardous to the power transmission line.

  • The contamination of photovoltaic (PV) cells reduces the incidence of sunlight and reduces the power generation output of PV cells. The main factor influencing the contamination of PV cells installed outdoors is the fine dust in the air, but the influence of temperature, humidity, rain and wind can be considered. In this paper, experiments on the contamination of PV cells according to the fine dust density, the temperature and humidity of air were investigated. As results of this study, the contamination area of PV cells increases with contamination time and cumulative fine dust density in the air. The contamination of PV cells increases when the temperature is low and the humidity is high. Also, as the contamination of PV cells is affected to the wind, the deviation of contamination area is happened.

  • As industrialization and urbanization accelerate, environmental issues have moved from local concerns to global issues. Among them, air pollution is the most important issue. Modern people spend more than 88% of their day indoors, but the concentration of fine dust and pollutants flowing indoors is increasing. The indoor environment has its own complexity, and various substances used indoors, such as building materials, furniture, electronics, and cleaning agents, emit chemical substances and cause various diseases. Therefore, when selecting building materials and interior finishing materials, the pollutant emission and adsorption capacity must be greatly considered. These considerations will ensure the construction of a sustainable future environment and a healthy life within that environment. Therefore, in order to reduce the generation of indoor air pollutants, this study aims to examine the fine dust adsorption properties of cement hardening materials using sepiolite, which has a porous structure and high absorption power among clay minerals. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the concentration of fine dust decreased as the addition rate of sepiolite increased. It is believed that the fine dust concentration was reduced due to the high porosity due to the microfibrous structure and large specific surface area of sepiolite, which has a porous structure among clay minerals. It is believed that these experimental results can be used as basic research for future use of sepiolite as a construction material.

  • This study analyzed the influence of domestic and Chinese factors on fine dust(PM10 & PM2.5) in Korea by using the panel quantile regression. Daily analysis was conducted for 11 regions in Korea. For domestic factors, electricity demand and traffic volume, and for Chinese factors, interaction term of Chinese three cities' fine dust and the domestic west wind are used. As a result, the influence of domestic factors was different when the domestic fine dust concentration was high and low. When the fine dust concentration was low, electricity demand had a positive effect only on PM2.5, and didn't affect PM10 in the national analysis. In regional analysis, the amount of electricity demand had a significant effect on fine dust and ultrafine dust only in the capital area and Chungcheong. Electricity demand was found to significantly increase both PM2.5 and PM10 when it was high. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the Chinese factor always had a significant effect regardless of the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of high concentration of fine dust, in addition to international cooperation, the reduction of PM2.5 generated by domestic thermal power generation should also be strengthened compared to the present.
