  • Although concrete is believed to be a durable material, concrete structures have been degraded by severe environmental conditions such as the effects of chloride and chemical, abrasion, and other deterioration processes. Therefore, durability evaluation has been required to ensure the long term serviceability of structures located in chloride exposed environments. Recently, probability-based durability analysis and design have proven to be reliable for the service-life predictions of concrete structures. This approach has been successfully applied to durability estimation and design of concrete structures. However, currently it is difficult to find an appropriate method engineers can use to solve these probability-based diffusion problems. In this paper, computer software has been developed to facilitate probability-based durability analysis and design. This software predict the chloride diffusion using the Monte Carlo simulation method based on Fick's second law, and provides durability analysis and design solutions. A graphic user interface (GUI) is adapted for intuitive and easy use. The developed software is very useful not only for prediction of the service life but for the durability design of the concrete structures exposed to chloride environments.

  • For producing cement and concrete, the construction field has been encouraged by the usage of industrial soil waste (or) secondary materials since it decreases the utilization of natural resources. Simultaneously, for ensuring the quality, the analyses of the strength along with durability properties of that sort of cement and concrete are required. The prediction of strength along with other properties of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) by optimization and machine learning algorithms are focused by already available research methods. However, an error and accuracy issue are possessed. Therefore, the Enhanced Deep Neural Network (EDNN) based strength along with durability prediction of HPC was utilized by this research method. Initially, the data is gathered in the proposed work. Then, the data's pre-processing is done by the elimination of missing data along with normalization. Next, from the pre-processed data, the features are extracted. Hence, the data input to the EDNN algorithm which predicts the strength along with durability properties of the specific mixing input designs. Using the Switched Multi-Objective Jellyfish Optimization (SMOJO) algorithm, the weight value is initialized in the EDNN. The Gaussian radial function is utilized as the activation function. The proposed EDNN's performance is examined with the already available algorithms in the experimental analysis. Based on the RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R2 metrics, the performance of the proposed EDNN is compared to the existing DNN, CNN, ANN, and SVM methods. Further, according to the metrices, the proposed EDNN performs better. Moreover, the effectiveness of proposed EDNN is examined based on the accuracy, precision, recall, and F-Measure metrics. With the already-existing algorithms i.e., JO, GWO, PSO, and GA, the fitness for the proposed SMOJO algorithm is also examined. The proposed SMOJO algorithm achieves a higher fitness value than the already available algorithm.

  • The purpose of this raper is to assess the benefits of frequency domain fatigue analysis and compare it with more conventional time domain techniques. The multi-body dynamic analysis, FE analysis and fatigue life prediction technique are applied for the frequency domain fatigue analysis. To obtain the dynamic load history used in the frequency domain fatigue analysis, the computer simulations running over typical road Profiles are carried out by utilizing vehicle dynamic model. The fatigue life estimation for the rear suspension system of small-sized passenger car is performed by using resonance durability analysis technique, and the estimation results are compared with the conventional quasi-static durability analysis results. For the pothole simulation, the percent changes, of the fatigue life between the two durability analysis techniques don't exceed 10%. But for the Belgian road simulation because of the resonance effect, the fatigue life using the resonance durability analysis technique are much smaller estimated than the quasi-static durability analysis results.

  • 1078 sets of mixtures in total that include fly ash, slag, and/or silica fume have been collected for prediction on concrete properties. A new database platform (Compos) has been developed, by which the stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) and BP artificial neural networks (BP ANNs) programs have been applied respectively to identify correlations between the concrete properties (strength, workability, and durability) and the dosage and/or quality of raw materials'. The results showed obvious nonlinear relations so that forecasting by using nonlinear method has clearly higher accuracy than using linear method. The forecasting accuracy rises along with the increasing of age and the prediction on cubic compressive strength have the best results, because the minimum average relative error (MARE) for 60-day cubic compressive strength was less than 8%. The precision for forecasting of concrete workability takes the second place in which the MARE is less than 15%. Forecasting on concrete durability has the lowest accuracy as its MARE has even reached 30%. These conclusions have been certified in a ready-mixed concrete plant that the synthesized MARE of 7-day/28-day strength and initial slump is less than 8%. The parameters of BP ANNs and its conformation have been discussed as well in this study.

  • Carbonation in RC (reinforced concrete) structure is considered as one of the most critical deteriorations in urban cities. Although RC column has one mix condition, carbonation depth is measured spatially differently due to its various environmental and internal conditions such as sound, cracked, and joint concrete. In this paper, field investigation was performed for 27 RC columns subjected to carbonation for eighteen years. Through this investigation, carbonation distribution in sound, cracked, and joint concrete were derived with crack mappings. Considering each related area and calculated PDF (probability of durability failure) of sound, cracked, and joint concrete through Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS), repairing timings for RC columns are derived based on several IPDF (intended probability of durability failure) of 1, 3, and 5%. The technique of equivalent probability including carbonation behaviors which are obtained from different conditions can provide the reasonable repairing strategy and the priority order for repairing in a given traffic service area.

  • Predicting fatigue life of rubber components is an important issue in design procedure for industrial trucks to assure the durability and reliability. Main considerations in designing rubber components against fatigue failure are the compounding technology, shape design, and manufacturing process. Among them the rubber compounding technology is one of the most critical factor to determine more than 50% of component's quality. This paper presents how to improve the durability and reliability of industrial rubber mount during its design, development and prototype testing. The data presented illustrates explicitly the prediction of reliability growth in the product development cycle. The application of these techniques is a part of the product assurance function that plays an important role in rubber components reliability improvement.

  • In this paper a computer aided analysis method is proposed for durability assessment in the early design stages using dynamic analysis, stress analysis and fatigue life prediction method. From dynamic analysis of a vehicle suspension system, dynamic load time histories of a suspension component are calculated. From the dynamic load time histories and the stress of the suspension component, a dynamic stress time history at the critical location is produced using the superposition principle. Using linear damage law and cycle counting method, fatigue life cycle is calculated. The predicted fatigue life cycle is verified by experimental durability tests.

  • Chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcement is one of the main factors which cause the deterioration of concrete structures. Durability and service lives of the concrete sturctures should be predicted in order to minimize the risk of corrosion of reinforcement. The objective of this study is to suggest the basis of analytical methods of predicting the corrosion threhold time of concrete structures. Based on the chemistry and physics of chloride ion transport and corrosion process, chloride intrusion with various exposure conditions, variability of diffusivity and transport of pore water in concrete are taken into consideration in applying finite element formulation to the predicion of corrosion threhold time. The effects of main factors on the prediction of chloride intrusion and corrosion threhold time are examined. In addition, after chloride diffusivities of several mixture proportions with different parameters are measured by chloride diffusion test, the exemplary anayses of corrosion threhold time of those mixture proportions are carried out.
