  • While the TCP throughput degradation problem in coded wireless mesh networks is well-known, few effective solutions have been proposed. Most schemes proposed attempts to mask packet reordering by ordering packets at a lower layer or to adjust a packet transmission rate to solve the scarcity problem of coding opportunities. Through the throughput comparison of traditional standard TCP variants, we show that losses and duplication of TCP acknowledgements in coded wireless mesh networks can impact throughput. In addition, we show that a TCP variant that does not rely on duplicate acknowledgements is more suitable for coded wireless mesh networks.

  • In this study, we aimed to identify the types of acknowledgments in Korean LIS journal articles and to find out whether there are differences in the bibliometric characteristics of journal articles based on the types of acknowledgments. For the analysis, the acknowledgments, references, and citation counts of 2,143 articles published in four representative journals in the field of library and information science in Korea for nine years from 2013 to 2021 were obtained as data. We analyzed the contents of 1,433 acknowledgments in 1,311 articles (61.2% of all articles) to divide them into types and then examined the bibliometric characteristics of each type of article. The acknowledgment types were broadly divided into the 'ethics' type (avoiding duplicate publication) and 'thanks' type, which were further subdivided into 9 and 10 types, respectively. We examined the number of references, recency of references, and citations as bibliometric characteristics, and found that all of these characteristics differed between the types of acknowledgements.

  • To increase wireless capacity, the concurrent use of multiple wireless interfaces on different frequency bands, called aggregation, can be considered. In this paper, we focus on aggregation of multiple Wi-Fi interfaces with packet-level traffic spreading between the interfaces. Two aggregation schemes, link bonding and multipath TCP (MPTCP), are tested and compared in a dualband Wi-Fi radio system with their Linux implementation. Various test conditions such as traffic types, network delay, locations, interface failures and configuration parameters are considered. Experimental results show that aggregation increases throughput performance significantly over the use of a single interface. Link bonding achieves lower throughput than MPTCP due to duplicate TCP acknowledgements (ACKs) resulting from packet reordering and filtering such duplicate ACKs out is considered as a possible solution. However, link bonding is fast responsive to links' status changes such as a link failure. It is shown that different combinations of interface weights for packet spread in link bonding result in different throughput performance, envisioning a spatio-temporal adaptation of the weights. We also develop a mathematical model of power consumption and compare the power efficiency of the schemes applying different power consumption profiles.
