  • Incident duration prediction is one of the most important steps of the overall incident management process. An accurate and reliable estimate of the incident duration can be the main difference between an effective incident management operation and an unacceptable one since, without the knowledge of such time durations, traffic impact can not be estimated or calculated. This research presents several multiple linear regression models for incident duration prediction using data consisting of 384 incident cases. The main source of various incident cases was the Traffic Incident Reports filled out by the Motorist Assistant Units of the Korea Highway Corporation. The models were proposed separately according to the time of day(daytime vs. nighttime) and the fatality/injury incurred (fatality/injury vs. property damage only). Two models using an integrated dataset, one with an intercept and the other without it, were also calibrated and proposed for the generality of model application. Some findings are as follows ; ?Variables such as vehicle turnover, load spills, the number of heavy vehicles involved and the number of blocked lanes were found to significantly affect incident duration times. ?Models, however, tend to overestimate the duration times when a dummy variable, load spill, is used. It was simply because several of load spill incidents had excessively long clearance times. The precision was improved when load spills were further categorized into "small spills" and "large spills" based on the size of vehicles involved. ?Variables such as the number of vehicles involved and the number of blocked lanes found not significant when a regression model was calibrated with an intercept. whereas excluding the intercept from the model structure signifies those variables in a statistical sense.

  • The vacuum systems of PLS linac provides average pressure of $2.6\times 10^{-6}$Pa under high power microwave of 54 MW peak with 4.1 $\mu \textrm s$ pulse width and 10 Hz repetition rates. The base pressure of system is$2.4\times 10^{-6}$Pa with 45$^{\circ}C$ cooling water. The outgassing rate of the system is decreased from $3.0\times 10^{-11}Torr-l/sec-\textrm{cm}^2$ at the initial stage after installation to $1\times 10^{-12}Torr-l/sec-\textrm{cm}^2$ at present. Total accumulated microwave energy dose is about 140 GJ per module. All ion pumps are working under saturated regime and effective pumping speeds of 60 I/s, 230 I/s ion pumps are 45 I/s, 65 I/s, 140 I/s under the operating range. Main problems occurred in recent year are troubles of ion pump controller and vacuum gauge controller, vacuum leak of energy doubler window and electron gun ceramic, and water leak in the dummy load of acceleraing columns. Total of 41 troubles with 140. 8 hours down time give good system availability of 98%. Down time can be reduced by high power waveguide valves and water dummy loads under development, and then availability is expected to be increased up to 99.5%.

  • In this paper, a receiver for wireless power transfer is proposed. The receiver consists of a 100 W rectifier in 1.8 MHz frequency band, and a constant current charger. In particular, two kinds of protection circuits are installed in the rectifier. They are a over-voltage protection circuit which block the input voltages greater than 30 V and a active-dummy load which maintains the receiver input impedance by automatically consuming the remaining input power. The constant current charger is designed to charge the battery with a charging current of up to 1 A. A wireless charging system is fabricated using the proposed receiver. The system is composed of a 130 W transmitter, two magnetic resonator, and proposed receiver for charging a 48 V Li-Ion battery using the coupled magnetic resonance method. By the measurement result, the system efficiency is about 54 %.

  • During start up and shut down of a proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), the performance and lifetime of PEMFC were reduced. In this study, effect of startup and shutdown were investigated in dead-end type PEMFC using oxygen as a cathode gas with polarization curve, impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Dummy load which eliminates residual hydrogen and oxygen during startup and shutdown operation should be applied to mitigated the degradation of PEMFC performance. At 50% relative humidity (RH) under the repetitive on/off cycling, the cell performance decayed faster than at 100% RH because of corrosion of the cathode carbon support. Water suppling into cell reduced the degradation rate of dead-end type PEMFC during start up and shut down cycling at 50% RH.

  • Recently, Healthcare system has not been standardized and has been developed as an embedded system lacking interoperability. We are finally going to face such problems as having excessive load in using network caused by the uncontrolled spread of system and un-guaranteed interoperability among the heterogeneous systems. We suggest the possibility that OSGi and JADE can be accepted as a solution for the above problems.

  • UFFO Burst Alert & Trigger telescope (UBAT) is one of major instruments of UFFO-Pathfinder. The UBAT aims at 10 arcmin resolution localization of Gamma Ray Bursts with X-ray coded mask technique. It has $400mm{\times}400mm$ coded mask aperture, hopper, shielding and detector module with effective area of $191cm^2$. The detector module consists of an assembly of 36 64-ch MAPMTs and $25mm{\times}25mm$ pixellated YSO crystal array, and associated analog and digital electronics of about 2500 channels. We performed a vibration test using a dummy MAPMT with the detector module structure to measure the indused stress applied onto the MAPMT. We designed a sub-structure on the detector module to avoid the resonance that would otherwise deforms the detector module structure. A finite element analysis confirms the reduction of the load acceleration down to 12g. The experimental results are to be reported. Consequently, it proves that the MAPMT arrays of the flight UBAT detector module structure would survive in the space launch environment.

  • As a part of the plasma control system (PCS) for the first plasma campaign of KSTAR, seven sets of fast feedback control loop for the superconducting poloidal field magnet power supply (PF MPS) have been implemented. A special real-time digital communication interface has been developed for the simultaneous exchanges of the current/voltage data from the 7 sets of 12-thyristor power supplies in a 200 microsecond control cycle. Preliminary power supply tests have been performed before actual cooldown of the device. A $29mH/50m{\Omega}$ solenoid dummy has been fabricated for a series of single power supply tests. Connectivity and response speed of the plasma control system have been verified. By changing hardware cabling, this load was also used to estimate mutual inductance coupling effects of two geometrically adjacent solenoid coils on each power supply. After the cooldown was complete, each pair of the up/down symmetric PF coils has been serially connected and tested as part of the device commissioning process. Bipolar operation and longer pulse attempts have been investigated. The responses of the coils and power supplies corresponding to the plasma magnetic controls in plasma discharges are also analyzed for the future upgrades.

  • This paper presents the design method of an impedance matching network using an isolation transformer and the Chebyshev filter function for the high efficiency and the flat power driving of an underwater acoustic piezoelectric transducer. The proposed impedance matching network is designed for minimizing the reactance component of transducer and having the flat power response in the wide frequency range. We design a low pass filter with ladder-type circuit using the Chebyshev function as standard prototype filter function. In addition, we design the impedance matching network which is suitable for the equivalent circuit of transducer and the turn ratio of transformer through the bandpass frequency transformation. The proposed method is applied to the simulated dummy load of the tonpilz-type transducer operating in the middle frequency range. The simulation results are compared with the measured characteristics and the validity of the proposed method is verified.

  • Ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) heating system is an important auxiliary heating method in the experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST). In EAST, several megawatts of power are transmitted with coaxial transmission lines and coupled to the plasma. For the long pulse and high power operation of the ICRF waves heating system, it is very important to effectively control the power and initial phase of the ICRF signals. In this paper, a power and phase feedback control system is described based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, which can realize complicated algorithms with the advantages of fast running and high reliability. The transmitted power and antenna phase are measured by a power and phase detector and digitized. The power and phase feedback control algorithms is designed to achieve the target power and antenna phase. The power feedback control system was tested on a dummy load and during plasma experiments. Test results confirm that the feedback control system can precisely control ICRF power and antenna phase and is robust during plasma variations.
