  • The motivations of the application of shakedown analysis to the earthquake-resistant design of ductile moment-resisting steel structures are presented. The problems which must be solved with this application are also addressed. The illustrative results from a series of static and time history nonlinear analyses of one-bay three-story steel frame and the related discussions have shown that the incremental collapse may be the critical design criterion in case of earthquake loading. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the inelastic excursion mechanism for alternation load pattern, such as in earthquake, should be the sidesway mechanism of the whole structure for the efficient mobilization of the structural energy dissipating capacity and that the shakedown analysis technique can be used as a tool to ensure this mechanism.

  • In the multi-stage former, a manufacture of hexagonal fitting nut was generated in a defective products about 70∼80% in the industry field. Products generated in defects manufactured to be a machining about 60%. Additional process increased a product cost and decreased a product rate. Therefore, it is important to predict and design a preform reducing defective products in the early stage of process design. So in the study Defects for manufacturing hexagonal fitting nut verified a cause through the finite element simulation. To reduce a defective generation. a preform designed and a designed preform verified through the finite element simulation. In conclusion, a generated defects when a hexagonal fitting nut manufactured should reduce if a round dimension of preform reduced and a part of opposition angle distributed in plenty a volume.

  • The failure modes of rock anchors subjected to tension can be defined as follows: tensile failure of tendon, shear failure on tendon-grout interface, shear failure on grout-rock interface and tensile failure of rock. This study proposes a design method to induce the rock anchor systems to avoid the brittle failure by ensuring the minimum embedded length of rock anchors. Pull-out test results of full-scale rock anchors show that the proposed method is effective in predicting the design conditions expecting the ductile tendon failure.

  • The objective of this research is to development of a parametric design system for membrane structures. The parametric design platform for the spatial structures has been designed and implemented. Rhino3D is used as a 3D graphic kernel and Grasshopper is introduced as a parametric modeling engine. Modeling components such as structural members, loading conditions, and support conditions are developed for structural modeling of the spatial structures. The interface module with commercial structural analysis programs is implemented. An iterative generation algorithm for design alternatives is a part of the design platform. This paper also proposes a design approach for the parametric design of Spoke Wheel membrane structures. A parametric modeling component is designed and implemented. SOFiSTik is examined to interact with the design platform as the structural analysis module. The application of the developed interface is to design optimally Spoke Wheel Shaped Ductile Membrane Structure using parametric design. It is possible to obtain objective shape by controlling the parameter using a parametric modeling designed for shape finding of spoke wheel shaped ductile membrane structure. Recently, looking at the present Construction Trends, It has increased the demand of the large spatial structure. But, It requires a lot of time for Modeling design and the Structural analysis. Finally an optimization process for membrane structures is proposed.

First, the structure of the optimal design Layout design and development of the component, and then achieve them through the Control Arm rigidity and optimal structure design and robust design of the focus areas of the expected stress Control Arm. Second, to develop a Control Arm reflects the high rigidity and high performance lightweight structures. Control Arm them developed to meet the design and rigidity as required by the consumer through the hollow, and to develop a process for the Core. Third, through optimum alloy composition and heat treatment methods will be derived to derive the amount of iron alloy (Cu, Ni, Mo) and Austempered heat treated and tempered condition. Fourth, through the development of optimum molding technology development component to develop the optimum ADI for the low-stiffness, high-rigidity component development, it attempts to develop a high-strength casting forming technology..

  • In reinforced concrete structure, it is very important to secure ductile performance of column because the columns become brittle failure and cause the collapse of an entire structure and the damage of human life. This study is intending to seek the quantity of transverse steels in square reinforced concrete columns which is derived from moment-curvature analysis of cross section about various arrangements of transverse steel and the ratio of axial force and to propose the design method to secure the sufficient ductile behavior subjected to complex loading.

  • A generalized numerical approach based on the finite element method to analysis and design of hydroforming process is proposed in this paper. The special attention is focused on comparison of an implicit and an explicit finite element method widely used for hydroforming simulation. Furthermore, in order to meet the increasing real needs for prediction of forming limit, a ductile fracture criterion combined with finite element method is introduced and then applied to hydroforming process of an automobile lower m Consequently, the numerical analysis and design for hydroforming process presented here will facilitate the development and application of the tube hydrofoniung process to a new level.

  • The limit drawing ratio (LDR) is a major process parameter in the process design of deep drawing. If the actual drawing ratio is greater than the LDR for a particular stage, then an intermediate stage has to be added to the process sequence to avoid failure during the ratio. In this study, the optimal process design considering forming limit is performed for the first-drawing and redrawing by using finite element method combined with ductile fracture criterion. The LDR and the site of fracture initiation are predicted by means of the fracture criterion. From the results of finite element analysis, the optimal value of drawing ratio is obtained, which contributes to the more uniform distribution of thickness and the smaller values of the ductile fracture in final cup.

  • Exterior beam-column joint is typically the weakest link in a limited-ductile reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure. The use of diagonal haunch element has been considered as a desirable seismic retrofit option for reducing the seismic demand at the joint. Previous research globally has focused on implementing double haunches, while the use of single haunch element as a less-invasive and more architecturally favorable retrofit option has not been investigated. In this paper, the key formulations and a design procedure for the single haunch system for retrofitting RC exterior beam-column joint are developed. An application of the proposed design procedure is then illustrated through a case study.

  • In the recent design of high ductile fiber-reinforced ECC (engineered cementitious composite), optimizing both processing and mechanical properties for specific applications is critical. This study presents an innovative method to develop new class ECCs, which possess the different fluid properties to facilitate diverse types of processing (i.e., self-consolidating or shotcrete processing) while maintaining ductile hardened properties. In the material design concept, we employ a parallel control of fresh and hardened properties by using micromechanics and cement rheology. Control of colloidal interaction between the particles is regarded as a key factor to allow the performance of the specific processing. To determine how to control the particle interactions and the viscosity of cement suspension, we first introduce two chemical admixtures including a highly charged polyelectrolyte and a non-ionic polymer. Optimized mixing steps and dosages we, then, obtained within the solid concentration predetermined based on micromechanical principle. Test results indicate that the rheological properties altered by this approach were revealed to be highly effective in obtaining the desired function of the fresh ECC, allowing us to readily achieve hardened properties, represented by pseudo strain-hardening behavior in uniaxial tension.
