An endwall boundary layer fence technique was adapted to improve the aerothermal environment of a gas turbine passage. The shape optimization of the fence was performed to maximize the improvement. The turbine passage was simulated by a $90^{\circ}$ turning duct (ReD=360,000). The main purpose of the present investigation was to focus on finding a endwall boundary layer fence with minimum total pressure loss in the passage and heat transfer coefficient on the endwall of the duct. Anothor objective function was to minimize the area on the endwall of the duct. An approximate optimization method was used for the investigation to secure the computational efficiency. Results indicated that a significant improvement in aerodynamic environment can be achieved through the application of the fence. Improvement of the thermal environment was smaller than that of the aerodynamic enviroment.

A design study of gas turbine engine simulation duct was conducted to investigate the operating characteristics and control gain tunning of the Altitude Engine Test Facility(AETF). The simulation duct design involved testing variable spike nozzle and ISO standard choking nozzle to verify the measurements such as mass flow rate and thrust. The simulation duct air flow area was designed to satisfy Ma 0.4 at the aerodynamic interface plane(AIP) at engine design condition. The test conditions for verifying the AETF controls and measurement devices were deduced from 1D analysis and CFD calculation results. The spike-cone driving part was designed to withstand the applied aero-load, and satisfy the axial traversing speed of 10 mm/s at whole operation envelops.
The purpose of this study was to promote the utilization of wind velocity of kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts for wind power generation in high-rise apartments. The research content can be summarized as follows: 1) Nine high-rise apartments were examined for the installation of kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts located in the pipe shaft (PS) section. After selecting simulation candidates, a simulation was performed with the STAR-CCM+ Ver 5.06 program. 2) Of nine high-rise apartments, seven had kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts, whose cross section was in the range of $0.16m^2{\sim}0.4m^2$. The area ratio between the exhaust ducts and PS section (cross section of exhaust duct/area of PS section ${\times}$ 100) was on average 3.2%. 3) The simulation results were analyzed. As a result, the smaller cross section kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts had, the more advantages there were for increasing exhaust wind velocity. If an out air inlet duct is installed to the old kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts, it will increase exhaust wind velocity by 3.01~3.98m/s and contribute to the proper wind velocity level (3.0m/s). 4) When the simultaneous usage rate between the kitchen and bathroom exhaust fan increased from 20% to 60%, exhaust wind velocity increased. The "entire house holds" condition for exhaust fan operation provided more even exhaust wind velocity than the "some house holds" condition. 5) Exhaust wind velocity increased in the order of amplified (T-3), induced (T-2) and vertical (T-1) top of kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts. Of them, the amplified type (T-3) was under the least influence of external wind velocity and thus the most proper for kitchen and bathroom exhaust duct tops.
A numerical study has been performed on the flow past a two-staged orifice in a rectangular duct. The flow field including the recirculation region behind the orifice was investigated and the pressure drop was calculated. Water was used as a working fluid and the flow was treated as the turbulent flow, of which the Raynolds number was 6000. The main parameters for the pressure drop and the recirculation region were the orifice's inclined angle against the duct, the interval between two orifices, the shape of the orifice's hole having the same area, and the change of the hole position at the same interval. The variation of the flow field was investigated with each parameter. Consequently, it was found that the most dominant parameter influencing the drop of the pressure was the change of the hole position at the same interval between orifices. Especially when the interval between orifices was narrow and the relative position the holes was changed, its effect to the flow field was shown most drastically as a result of this study. The SIMPLER algorithm with FLUENT code was employed to analyze the flow field.

The objective of the current study is to understand steady 3-dimensional flow phenomena in a bifurcated duct experimentally. A bifurcation model is fabricated with transparent acrylic resin to visualize the whole flow field with the PIV system. The gray level cross-correlation method is applied to the image processing algorithm. The subpixel and the area interpolation methods are used to obtain the final velocity vectors. The finite volume predictions are used to analyze the flow patterns in the bifurcation model. The results of the computer simulation and the PIV experiment for three-dimensional flow show the recirculation zone and the formation of the paired secondary flow distal to the apex of the bifurcation model. The results obtained with the two methods also show that the branch flow strongly strikes the inner wall due to the inertial effect and accompanied helical motion as it flows toward the outer wall.
An experimental analysis of the flow inside the refrigeration compartment of a home refrigerator was conducted in order to achieve better performances in terms of uniform temperature distribution and cooling speed. 2D PIV and stereoscopic PIV were used for the experiments on an actual-size refrigerator at operating conditions. Two CCD cameras were employed for a wider field of view in the measurement of the shelf, and stereoscopic PIV was used to measure the three velocity components at the various cooling duct outlets and the mean velocity fields were area-integrated to calculate the flow-rates. 50 to 100 instantaneous velocity fields were time averaged for the mean velocity fields. With the result of this analysis, a new cooling duct system was developed, with the refrigerator's cooling performance increasing 11% in terms of cooling speed, and 25% in temperature uniformity.

This study was performed to determine the postitional relationships of two lobes of parenchyma and to analysis the anatomical feature and its variations of duct on the panoramic views of the normal parotid glands in adults. Materials included 66 panoramic views and anterioposterior views of sialograms of selected persons and the radiograms of the gland experimentally reproduced on dry skull with lead foil and the reference images of computed tomograms of normal persons. Results were as follows : 1. On panoramic view of sialogram, the superficial lobe was revealed with totally being superimposed with the mandibular ramus and condyle and its tail portion superimposed with mandibular angle area, the deep lobe was revealed between the posterior border of the ramus and the mastoid process, and the isthmus was begin from the marked furcation off main duct and superimposed partially with the medial part of the deep lobe. 2, The mean length and the lateral extension of parenchyma was 63.18±8.05mm and 21.78±4.87mm respectively on panoramic view and showed no statistical relationship between them. 3. The main duct was generally perpendicular to the posterior border of ramus at middle portion and its configurations revealed 57,58% of curvilinear type, 21.21% sigmoid type, 15.15% reverse sigmoid type. 4, The interlobular ducts of the deep lobe showed relatively well defined features between the mandibular ramus and the mastoid process.

The frost and mist in the windshield disturb the sight of driver and passengers especially in winter. This possibly leads to safety problems. In order to export automobiles to the countries of North America, the safety regulation requires the frost of selected area should be completely melted in 30 minutes. The defrost pattern and time for melting of frost are fully dependent on the flow and temperature field near the windshield. Furthermore, the flow and temperature field near the windshield are dependent on the air discharged from defrost nozzle. The present work has been done for understanding the flow features of the discharged air and internal flow within the nozzle duct. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes code was used for performing the generic A/C duct flow analysis. The present results were nearly coincided with experimental data. To perform the parametric study of the effectiveness of the number of guide vanes, the discharge angle and the location of nozzle were changed. The ratio of volume flow rate through defrost nozzle and side exit were compared to investigate the influence of parameters on the effectiveness of defrost nozzle. The velocity profiles and flow patterns of the defrost nozzle duct were also analyzed.

Mercury is one of the most frequently used heavy metal in dental clinic. Mercury poisoning rises up when someone is exposed to mercury chronically. In 1818, Amalgam was used for dental restorative procedure, and after then study about mercury toxicity has begun. Clinical signs of mercury toxicity in oral & maxillofacial area were increases of salivation, metallic taste, swelling and pain of tongue, redness and ulceration of oral mucosa, and increased mobility and loss of teeth. After we injected mercury($HgCl_{2}$) into intraperitoneum of rat, studied about histopathological changes of submandibular gland cell. Experimental group was divided into two groups by amount of mercury. (Group 1 was 0.5mg/Kg of mercury injection, group 2 was 1.0mg/Kg of mercury injection.) 1. After 3days of intraperitoneal injection, black granules were observed at macrophage cell in both group. In group 2, author found hyperchromatism of nucleus, and vacuolization of cellular matrix and nucleus of acinar cell. 2. After 1week of intraperitoneal injection, author found severe vacuolization of nucleus and cellular matrix, and irregular granules around nuclear membrane at mucous cell and serous cell in both group. Vacuolization of nucleus and cellular matrix was seen at duct cell in group 2. 3. After 2weeks of intraperitoneal injection, author could found severe vacuolization of cellular matrix, and sometimes nucleus was positioned in central area of cellular matrix at mucous and serous cell in both group. Vacuolization of nucleus and cellular matrix was found at vascular endothelial cell in group 2. 4. After 4weeks of intraperitoneal injection, destruction and distortion of gland cells were distinct. Vacuolization and destruction of nucleus and cellular matrix was found at duct cell in group 2. After intraperitoneal injection of mercury, we found equanimity of mercury and destruction of cellular matrix at serous cell, mucous cell, and duct cell of submandibular gland. So, we thought that metallic taste of mercury poisoning patient would be due to excretion of saliva containing mercury.

Packaged power station (PPS) is a stationary diesel engine generator set and developed for the supply of electric power to small villages, islands and factories etc. Therefore, the PPS is closely installed to residence area and sometimes cause the environmental noise problems. In this paper, environmental noise analysis was performed for the power plant with 28 sets of PPS. The initial analysis results showed the some difference between the measurement and analysis because of the inaccurate noise source data. To improve the accuracy of analysis, main noise sources were inversely estimated using the in-situ measurement data in the vicinity of PPS and steam boiler. As the results of re-analysis, the good agreement was obtained and it was concluded that the noise levels exceed the specified noise limit in residence area. In order to reduce the noise, the several methods such as geometry alteration of inlet duct, application of hybrid-type silencer and noise protection barrier were suggested and verified with the confirmed analysis model.
