Recently, the duct system with a cross flow fan was used to improve the ventilation in various industrial fields. For the efficient ventilation, it is necessary to design the duct system based on the flow characteristics around the cross flow fan. In the present study, the flow characteristics around a cross flow fan in the ventilation duct were predicted by using the moving mesh and sliding interface techniques for the rotation of blades. To design the duct system with the high performance of ventilation, the CFD simulations were repeated with the revised duct model based on the DOE. With the numerical results of flow rate through the ventilation duct with various geometric parameters, the optimized geometry of ventilation duct to maximize the flow rate was obtained by using the Kriging approximation method. From the performance curves of cross flow fan in the original and optimized models of ventilation duct, it was observed that the flow rate through the optimized model is about 16 percent larger than that through the original model.
Regarding the aircrafts with a rotor blade system, the miniaturization of them is limited due to the rotor blade length and the tail rotor system. To miniaturize an aircraft, an equipment is required that increases thrust and also shortens the length of the rotor blade. The present study will conduct the flow analysis for miniaturizing the aircraft by applying a duct to the coaxial rotor blade system without tail rotor. First, the verification on the calculated results was conducted through the computational flow analysis on the coaxial rotor blade system without a duct. Then, the flow analysis for the coaxial rotor blade systems was performed including Ka-60 duct, Single duct, Twin duct, and Double duct, respectively. From the numerical results, the thrust coefficient appeared higher with the duct than without a duct for the coaxial rotor blade system. Especially, in the case of Double duct, the thrust was improved due to the increase of incoming flow and the extension of the wake area. These results will be used as the basic concepts for miniaturizing the aircraft with the rotor blade system. The flow analysis on the coaxial rotor blade system including the fuselage remains as a future work.
A numerical study on the similarity of the developing laminar flows between in a straight duct rotating about an axis perpendicular to that of the duct and in a stationary curved duct was carried out. In order to clarify the analogy of two flows, dimensionless parameters K/sub LR/ = Re/(equation omitted) and Rossby number, Ro, in a rotating straight duct were used as a set corresponding to Dean number K/sub LC/ = Re/(equation omitted), and curvature ratio, λ, in a stationary curved duct. For the large values of Ro and λ, it is shown that the flow field satisfies the 'asymptotic invariance property', that is, there are strong quantitative similarities between the two flows such as flow patterns, friction factors, and maximum axial velocity magnitudes for the same values of K/sub LR/ and K/sub LC/ if they are correlated with dimensionless axial distances Z/sub R/ = z/(equation omitted) for a rotating duct flow and Z/sub C/ = z/(equation omitted) for a stationary curved duct flow.

Effects of the duct inlet guide vane on the flowrate distribution characteristics of the defroster nozzle exit in a defrost duct system were investigated experimentally to design the optimum heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system applied in an automotive compartment. A 3-dimensional hot-wire anemometer system was used to measure the velocity field in the vicinity of the defroster nozzle jet flow and the velocity distributions near the windshield interior surface. At first, two cases of with- and without-duct inlet guide vanes were considered as the test condition, and then three cases of the duct inlet guide vane were tested to determine the optimum guide vane shape and their positions. The arrangement of the duct inlet guide vanes has an effect on the improved flowrate distribution at the defroster nozzle exit and near the windshield interior surface. However, the application of the lots of guide vane to control the flow direction leads to increase the flow resistance, resulting in the decreased flowrate issuing from the defroster nozzle. The shape of the duct inlet guide vane affects not only the flowrate distribution between the driver side and the assistant driver side but also the reduction of the flow resistance in the defrost duct system.

As fuel burnup proceeds, thermal gradients, differential swelling, and inter-assembly loading may induce assembly duct bowing. Since duct bowing affects the reactivity, such as long or short term power-reactivity-decrement variations, handling problem, caused by top end deflection of the bowed assembly duct, and the integrity of the assembly duct itself. Assembly duct bowing were first observed at EBR-ll in 1965, and then several designs of assembly ducts and core restraint system were used to accommodate this problem. In this study, NUBOW-2D KMOD was used to analyze the bowing behavior of the assembly duct under the KALIMER(Korea Advanced Liquid MEtal Reactor) core restraint system conditions. The mechanical behavior of assembly ducts related to several design parameters are evaluated. ACLP(Above Core Load Pad) positions, the gap distance between the ducts, and the gap distance between the duct and restraint ring were selected as the sensitivity parameter for the evaluation of duct deflection.

A numerical method has been proposed to predict 3-dimensional flow in a duct system with multiple outlets. For the duct system, it is supposed that the pressure values are given at multiple outlets while the velocity profile is given at a inlet. To maintain the continuity of pressure distribution between main and branch duct, present method allows that the pressure value taken from analysis of branch duct can be converted to the main duct analysis. The result from present method which can handle the pressure boundary condition closely coincided with that from regular method which can handle the velocity boundary condition only. Furthermore the flow distribution from present method showed good agreement with that from the single block method. From the comparison of the present method with the total pressure method used for engineering duct design, 13% of discrepancy in pressure loss was shown between the main duct inlet and the branch duct outlet.

The present study investigates effects of flow velocity on the convective heat/mass transfer characteristics in wavy ducts of a primary surface heat exchanger application. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the wavy duct sidewall are determined by using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The flow visualization technique is used to understand the overall flow structures inside the duct. The aspect ratio and corrugation angle of the wavy duct is fixed at 7.3 and 145$^{\circ}$ respectively, and the Reynolds numbers, based on the duct hydraulic diameter, vary from 100 to 5,000. The results show that there exist complex secondary flows and transfer processes resulting in non-uniform distributions of the heat/mass transfer coefficients on the duct side walls. At low Re (Re<1000), relatively high heat/mass transfer regions like cell shape appear on both pressure and suction side wall due to the secondary vortex flows called Taylor-Gortler vortices perpendicular to the main flow direction. However, at high Re (Re>1000), these secondary flow cells disappear and boundary layer type flow characteristics are observed on pressure side wall and high heat/mass transfer region by the flow reattachment appears on the suction side wall. The average heat/mass transfer coefficients are higher than those of the smooth circular duct due to the secondary flows inside wavy duct. And also friction factors are about two times greater than those of the smooth circular duct.
We found reports of only about 20 cases of well documented ejaculatory duct obstruction presenting with infertility and treated by TUR. While infertility caused by ejaculatory duct obstruction is rare accurate diagnosis by vasoseminal vesiculography is important, since these obstructions may be treatable. In our 29 patients undergoing vasoseminal vesiculography for 1 year to demonstrate obstruction site in seminal tract the ejaculatory duct obstruction was found in 6 patients. The intial methods of treament were TUR of the ejaculatory duct in 2 patients, forceful lavage of ejaculatory duct through the vas deferens in 4 patients. One patient's wife who had undergone TUR of the ejaculatory duct delivered a normal female baby 15 months postoperatively. In one patient who had undergone forceful lavage of ejaculatory duct semen analysis returns to normal level except the motility. When initial methods of treatment fail to get the normal semen we have the plan to perform TUR of the ejaculatory duct or aspiration of seminal fluid in the seminal vesicle under the control of the ultrasonography for AIH according to the level of ejaculatory duct obstruction. Our report suggests that ejaculatory obstruction has been underdiagnosed and should receive more attention by urologist.
Recently, the porous duct is becoming one of Possible ways to reduce the intake noise of an automobile instead of using resonators. In this article, acoustic characteristic of the porous duct is investigated theoretically and experimently. Futhermore, 4-pole parameter of the porous duct is introduced to predict transmission loss of it for various case. Acoustic efficiency of the porous duct is shown with experimental result using a car.

During the operation, fatigue failures and cracks of duct plate due to excessive duct vibration occurred in a fan-duct system of fossil fueled boilers. We measured static pressure variation (pressure pulsation) in the outlet, and also measured vibration at the outlet duct of a centrifugal fan. It was found that strong pressure pulsation caused by the inlet vortex occurred in inlet vane of centrifugal fan in the middle range of vane opening. Thus, excessive duct vibration is caused by strong pressure pulsation. In this Paper, it is shown that the frequency and amplitude of pressure pulsation depend mainly on vane opening and are compared with duct vibration. Also, effective solution for reducing pressure pulsation and vibration are presented.
