The Philippines is known for its abundant water resources such as the rainfall, where it has a mean annual rainfall range from 965 to 4,100mm. Due to the rapid urbanization of the country, the population in Metro Manila has been continuously increasing hence, the demand for a potable water supply also increases. To mitigate the scarcity of potable water supply, utilization of the water resources should be practiced. Rainwater harvesting is one way to utilize the rainfall runoff. This study analyzedthe potentiality of the rainwater harvesting on residential areas in Metro Manila. A water balance method based spreadsheet was used with input parameters including daily rainfall, catchment area, runoff coefficient, population and the water demand. The efficiency of the domestic water tank was analyzedusing the three different climatic conditions (i.e., minimum, median andmaximum annual rainfalls) and three different types of toilets (i.e., inefficient, conventional and dual-flush toilets). Furthermore, the overflow volume was used to determine which size of rainwater storage was more appropriate for the study area. The results of the study showed that for the three types of rainfall years, only the conventional and dual-flush toilets were suitable for the utilization of rainwater harvesting. The utilization of the $60m^3$ storage tank was sufficient for supplying the demandsof the 90 houses only for a small period of time, 3 months. Based from this study, to fully sustain the long-term water demand of the houses, the enlargement of the tank size having a capacity of 1,100 to $2,500m^3$ is ideal.

In this paper, a hybrid firewall system using the screening router, dual-homed gateway, screened host galeway and the application level gateway is proposed, The screened host gateway is comjXlsed of screening router, DMZ and bastion host. All external input traffics are filtered by screening router with network protrcol filtering, and transmitted to the bastion host performing application level filtering, The dual homed gateway is an internlediate equipment prohibiting direct access from external users, The application level gateway is an equipment enabling transmission using only the proxy server. External users can access only through the public servers in the DMZ, but internal users can aeee through any servers, The rule base which allows Telnet only lo the adrnilllslratol is applied to manage hosts in the DMZ According to the equipmental results, denial of access was in orderof Web. Mail FTP, and Telnet. Access to another servers except for server in DMZ were denied, Prolocol c1mials of UDP was more than that of TCP, because the many hosts broadcasted to networds using BOOTP and NETBIOS, Also, the illegal Telnet and FTP that transfer to inside network were very few.
Traditional computer simulation uses only traditional input and output devices. With the recent emergence of haptic techniques, which can give users kinetic and tactile feedback, the field of computer simulation is diversifying. In particular, as the virtual-reality-based surgical simulation has been recognized as an effective training tool in medical education, the practical virtual simulation of surgery becomes a stimulating new research area. The surgical simulation framework should represent the realistic properties of human organ for the high immersion of a user interaction with a virtual object. The framework should make proper both haptic and visual feedback for high immersed virtual environment. However, one model may not be suitable to simulate both haptic and visual feedback because the perceptive channels of two feedbacks are different from each other and the system requirements are also different. Therefore, we separated two models to simulate haptic and visual feedback independently but at the same time. We propose an adaptive mass-spring method as a multi-modal simulation technique to synchronize those two separated models and present a framework for a dual model of simulation that can realistically simulate the behavior of the soft, pliable human body, along with haptic feedback from the user's interaction.
Three-dimensional slope stability analysis was applied to a failed dual-lithology slope containing both granite and an andesitic dyke, taking account of the differences in shear strength of the different lithologies. A direct shear test of the soil-rock boundary was performed to examine the shear strength of two different types of failure surfaces within different lithologies, and a laboratory test was performed on an upper, weathered soil layer. The test results indicate that shear strength was lower at the soil-rock boundary than within the weathered soil layer. A representative geological section was subjected to two-dimensional slope stability analysis using a limit equilibrium method to assess whether the distribution of lithologies upon the slope influences the results of stability analysis. The results were then compared with those of three-dimensional slope stability analysis, for which input parameters can be varied according to the distribution of lithologies upon the slope. The three-dimensional analysis yielded safety factors of 1.26 under dry conditions and 0.55 under wet conditions, whereas the two-dimensional analysis yielded unstable safety factors of 0.92 and 0.32, respectively. These findings show that the results of stability analysis are affected by the distribution of different lithologies upon the slope. Given that the studied slope collapsed immediately after rainfall, it is likely that the results of the three-dimensional analysis are more reliable.
In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a new type of bandpass-filter that used rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure. The filter is applied the modified rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure in patch, which reduce rho size of filter and IEEE 802. 11 correspond to wireless LAN domain(2.45GHz and 5.2GHz) for operating. As a result, the design and fabrication process of the filter become simple and the size of it is reduced more than 60% compared with RF filter are available conventional PEMBF(Parallel Edge-coupled Microstrip Bandpass Filter) of accounted circuit by minimum stage, measurement result of fabricated filter, center frequence is down 2.408GHz and 5.075GHz. input return loss is -39.169dB at 2.408GHz, -40.922dB at 5.075GHz. insertion loss is -0.437dB at 2.408GHz, -1.669dB at 5.075GHz.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are specialized hybrid electric vehicles that have the potential to obtain enough energy for average daily commuting from batteries. The PHEV battery would be recharged from the power grid at home or at work and would thus allow for a reduction in the overall fuel consumption. This paper proposes an integrated power electronics interface for PHEVs, which consists of a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) and an interleaved DC/DC converter, in order to reduce the cost, the mass and the size of the power electronics unit (PEU) with high performance at any operating mode. In the proposed configuration, a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) is able to function as a bidirectional single-phase AC/DC battery charger/ vehicle to grid (V2G) and to transfer electrical energy between the DC-link (connected to the battery) and the electric traction system as DC/AC inverter. In addition, a bidirectional-interleaved DC/DC converter with dual-loop controller is proposed for interfacing the ESI to a low-voltage battery pack in order to minimize the ripple of the battery current and to improve the efficiency of the DC system with lower inductor size. To validate the performance of the proposed configuration, the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to optimize the efficiency of the AC drive system in PHEVs. The maximum efficiency of the motor is obtained by the evaluation of optimal rotor flux at any operating point, where the PSO is applied to evaluate the optimal flux. Moreover, an improved AC/DC controller based Proportional-Resonant Control (PRC) is proposed in order to reduce the THD of the input current in charger/V2G modes. The proposed configuration is analyzed and its performance is validated using simulated results obtained in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Furthermore, it is experimentally validated with results obtained from the prototypes that have been developed and built in the laboratory based on TMS320F2808 DSP.
This paper proposes the structure of a smart transformer to improve the performance of the 60Hz main power transformer for rolling stock. The proposed smart transformer is a kind of solid state transformer that consists of semiconductor switching devices and high frequency transformers. This smart transformer would have smaller size than the conventional 60Hz main transformer for rolling stock, making it possible to operate AC electrified track efficiently by power factor control. The proposed structure employs a cascade H-Bridge converter to interface with the high voltage AC single phase grid as the rectifier part. Each H-Bridge converter in the rectifier part is connected by a Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter to generate an isolated low voltage DC output source of the system. Because the AC voltage in the train system is a kind of medium voltage, the number of the modules would be several tens. To control the entire smart transformer, the inner DC voltage of the modules, the AC input current, and the output DC voltage must be controlled instantaneously. In this paper, a control algorithm to operate the proposed structure is suggested and confirmed through computer simulation.

Size verification of small and large bubbles in a bubble column was investigated by employing the dynamic gas disengagement (DGD) method and dual electrical resistivity probe (DRP) method, simultancously. The holdups of large and small bubbles in the bubble column in a given operating condition were obtained by means of the DGD method by measuring the pressure drop variation in the column with a variation of time after stopping the gas input into the column. The size and frequency of bubbles were measured by the DRP method in the same operating condition, from which the bubble holdup of each range of size was obtained. The verification of size in determining the large or small bubbles was decided by comparing the holdups of large or small bubbles measured by the DGD method with that measured by the DRP method. Filtered compressed air and tap water were used as a gas and a continuous liquid medium. The diameter and height of the bubble column were 0.102 m and 1.5 m, respectively. The demarcation size between the large and the small bubbles in the bubble column was 4.0~5.0 mm; the demarcation size was about 5.0 mm when the gas velocity was in the relatively low range, but about 4.0 mm when the gas velocity was in the relatively high range, within this experimental conditions.

This paper presents a new method for designing a dual-band WIFI antenna using the third-order harmonic mode of a monopole antenna whose first-order mode operates at the low frequency band of WIFI. As analysing the current distribution of the third-order mode of this monopole antenna, the strongest point of electric field can be found. Then by attaching a stub at this point, the resonant frequency of the stub radiator can be adjusted from the third-order mode of the monopole antenna into the high frequency band of WIFI and the input impedance at this resonant frequency can be controlled with the width of the branch, without affecting the low frequency band of WIFI (the first-order mode of the monopole antenna). The compact dual-band antenna is designed at the size of an USB(universal serial bus) dongle and the bandwidth covers 600 MHz(2.3~3 GHz) at 2 GHz and 1 GHz(4.9~5.9 GHz) at 5 GHz under -10 dB which is satisfied with WLAN frequency. Efficiency of proposed antenna achieves over 50 % at WLAN frequency.

The Gysel divider has the advantage of easily setting the resistor in the circuit. If the line impedance in the Gysel divider is set differently, the input signal can be distributed to the two output ports at various distribution ratios. This paper proposes the Gysel divider that can change the power distribution to 1:3 or 3:1 by changing the line impedance. The impedance change of the line can be implemented by placing a floating copper plate on the bottom of the microstrip-line. When the floating copper plate and the ground plane are connected, the line operates as the microstrip-line, and when the floating copper plate and the ground plane are disconnected, the line operates as the coplanar-line. The proposed Gysel divider was fabricated at the center frequency of 1.5GHz. The fabricated 3:1 Gysel divider has a stable value S11 of below -17dB, S21/S31 of 4.8±0.2dB, S21(to high output port) of -1.39±0.12dB and S31(to low output port) of -6.15±0.08dB over 1.3~1.7GHz.
